Girardi is finally learning his pitchers. CC and Eovaldi have significant trouble getting through an order 3 times. After 5 innings, both guys are on notice and sometimes they don't even come out for the sixth. This has been an effective strategy to allow our pen to get us some victories in the games they start. This allows him to have a longer leash with Tanaka, Pineda and Nova. Granted, the better decision would have been to move Eovaldi or CC to the pen and leave Warren in his place, but that ship has sailed

Starting to create some separation now in the division. We need to allow CC, Nova and Eovaldi to earn their spots over the next 13 days and we need to be willing to upgrade them if they don't. I am of the belief that we need one more playoff starter behind Tanaka and Pineda. I think Nova or Eovaldi could be the 4th guy, but we really need a third. I don't think emptying the farm for a Cueto is the best option, but getting a Samardzija might be the ticket

Well, looks like we've found our groove at the right time. 12-4 in July and now have a 6 game lead with a 7 game lead in the L column. Cashman said we don't need to add at the deadline, but we definitely should at least add a pitcher of some sort to the club. No need to get complacent here, but as long as we stay healthy, I like our chances. We hit as a team pretty well. Our team can run. We have a rotation that should play well in October and our pen is just lights out. Looking to keep separating from the pack

I wouldn't mind if we sat out this year's trade deadline. I like our team right now, minus Drew. I'd love to see Refs getting time at 2B, but I can't complain. Our bullpen is top 3 in baseball. Our rotation is pretty good, with good depth at the moment. CC isn't doing his part but it's not like we are going to cut his salary. Nate, Hero, Nova, and Pineda are doing their thing. Pretty happy with how things are working out right now though.

Zobrist was the guy I wanted and now he's gone.

Meh, my concern is that we are relying on a guy with a partial tear in his UCL as an ace and a guy with a reconstructed shoulder as the #2. Neither player has seen 200IP as a big leaguer. Eovaldi is a 5 inning pitcher. Nova is post TJS, so who the f*** knows how he'll be the rest of the way. We need 4 starters for the post season. CC is out. Warren is no longer stretched out. I'd like to add one more name to that list, a name that would absolutely make the list. While I'd like Hamels, we don't NEED him. We need one more reliable arm.

Also, it is lovely watching how our offense is just absolutely beating the f*** out of the Rangers. 15 runs 6 outs. Who cares that Capuano shat the bed, lol, he's about to be cut

I would love to have Tanaka starting the second game of the playoffs. We need a top to this rotation, especially if we go against KC or the great staff in Houston. I want Price

Dodgers basically got Price last night dude. Peraza plus prospects for him will be the deal, just watch.

Or the Jays come in and take him haha. Jays are looking really good. Still I think it'd take one more pitcher, maybe Gallardo for them to be better

This could push the Yankees into the trade market.

Yankees To Place Michael Pineda On DL With Forearm Injury

By Steve Adams [July 30, 2015 at 1:53pm CDT]

The Yankees will place right-hander Michael Pineda on the disabled list with a Grade 1 right forearm strain, according to the New York Post’s Joel Sherman (Twitter link). The timetable for his return remains unclear, though Sherman says the Yankees do expect Pineda to pitch again in 2015. The injury is the same as the one suffered by Andrew Miller earlier this year, Sherman adds. Miller missed about a month with his forearm strain, though the recovery process for a reliever and for a starting pitcher will probably vary, and Pineda may need more time to return to his previous per-start workload after sitting out.

An injury to Pineda further taxes a Yankees rotation that already contained some question marks. CC Sabathia, Masahiro Tanaka, Ivan Nova and Nathan Eovaldi should continue to hold down spots, and the team has used right-hander Bryan Mitchell in the rotation this season as well. There figures to be a good deal of speculation surrounding top prospect Luis Severino as well, though despite a 2.45 ERA this season, he’s already just 14 innings shy of his career-high 113 1/3. Certainly he’ll be expected to exceed that number in 2015 — the question is just to what extent he’ll be able to surpass that mark.

The Yankees have already been linked to pitching upgrades in recent days, though top-of-the-market names such as Cole Hamels and David Price have come off the board. Remaining names range from expensive assets such as James Shields (three years, $64MM following this season) or short-term rentals such as Mike Leake, who is a free agent at season’s end. The Padres have some targets that fall in between those two extremes (Tyson Ross, Andrew Cashner), and as Sherman speculates on Twitter, a run at Craig Kimbrel would allow New York to shift Adam Warren back into the rotation and create a dominant late-inning trio.

All of that is sheer speculation, of course, and it remains possible that the Pineda injury won’t do much to alter the Yankees’ course over the coming 24-plus hours. But it’s easy to imagine a scenario where the loss of Pineda, even for a brief time, combined with Toronto’s acquisitions of Troy Tulowitzki and David Price, will hasten GM Brian Cashman’s efforts to upgrade his roster via the trade market.

Cueto, Price, Kazmir, Hamels, Latos already off the market.

Whose left? Shark, Shields, Leake, Gallardo. Who would be surprised if they went for Shields?

Cashman's hard at work. Ackley for Flores and Ramirez. I don't mind Ramirez since we have like 20 guys ahead of him on the RP chart, but I'd rather of traded Gamel. I just hope this ends the Drew days in New York. Not saying Ackley will be better though

Meh, I don't think Cash believes in the team enough to part with his prospects. I'm ok with that, but it definitely puts a damper on our success. Pineda is now out for at least 2 weeks, probably more like a month. But as I type this, more and more pitchers are coming off the market.

Well, at least NY is making it interesting. CC goes down with dehydration and Pineda goes out with a forearm strain. My expectation is that Pineda is out for about a month. My bet is CC misses a turn, and not due to health. Because he sucks. I thought we'd be getting a shiny new toy under the tree, instead, we get 2 prospects with huge arms to take their place. Bryan Mitchell will likely take CC's spot and top prospect Luis Severino will take Pineda's spot. I know Mitchell can light up the gun and look absolutely dominant at times, while also wilting at times at weird spots in the game. But Severino is our E-Rod. He's a right handed guy with apparent solid command of a mid 90s fastball and a devastating changeup. His slider is apparently average at this point with the potential for plus. I am excited to see this kid come up after the deadline, mostly because that means we aren't showcasing him for a deadline deal. I honestly think this is a move for this and next season. If he comes up and sucks over the next 3-4 starts, then we'll have no recourse but to dominate the FA market when it comes to arms. But if he comes up and shows what a lot of us prospect guys hope to see, then he could be a long term answer to a major developmental problem for us. We have develop pitching, some very good pitching, but we haven't developed an ace since Pettitte. I want to see that happen

They got these guys via trade?

If so, how can they be counted as "developed" by the org.?

Like what I've seen from Pinder. I think he has the best chance to make an impact this year out of all the young bullpen arms that have come through. Next year is going to look pretty impressive though. Hopefully Servino comes up and has some good starts. Really like him and Mitchell.

I'm not rooting for the Jays by any means, but am curious to see the playoff environment in the Rogers Centre. They rarely sellout, and it's still pretty loud.
