I still think Boston should look to deal Sandoval back to the Giants - Giants could use him, and the Sox' org muscle is at 3B.

No one at aaa - no one at aa - guys with some real potential at a level. When I see Travis Shaw, who has been playing first base on a consistent basis move to third, i ask what is up with that and I don't care where he played before he hit Pawtucket. Chechinni of late has been moved from third to the outfield. I am as confused as Ramirez is. Please don't get offended by my post SK. I really like your posts and think that you offer some very good info. I actually agree with you in a way. I am not a big fan of Sandovals but who really plays third base for us now if that happens? I think that right now our management team is as confused as everyone else. It is easy to say that a positional change for a professional athlete should be fairly smooth in most cases but Ramirez's escapades indicate that it might not be that easy. It looks like they are throwing darts blindfolded.

If nothing else just give Holt an everyday position without doing the Tony Phillips routine. Ramirez probably would be better at 3B too, who knows.

Sandoval is now hitting. And he is better at D than he has shown. Sandoval isn't the problem.

What the heck happened in May?

It's not even that - although he and Ramirez are the main culprits for nearly all of the Red Sox leaking in terms of DRS. It's just the Sox roster making more sense without him.

How??? He's a solid hitter, and will play ok to solid 3rd base.

Forget about May. The whole team was so bad it's impossible to fathom..

Sandoval should be better, but the burden is on him ... right now he has been below replacement level. But a lineup with Hanley at 3B and Brock and whomever on the OF corners would make sense too and perhaps given the org more future flexibility.

Panda has been hitting very well recently. People need to pump the brakes on him.

His D needs to improve though. The Sox just leak runs all over the place. His bat is not good enough to justify any defensive shortcomings.

Exactly.

But.... In this town the casual fans will only see him standing on first or second clapping his hands. They will not remember his poor play at 3rd. If they do, they will say he has had some "tough plays" and bad hops.

Sell the sizzle!!!!

His DWAR had been in the negatives this year just until recently, so he is improving. Previous years it had been just ok. I think we have seen him at his worst.

Check out Hanley's DWAR for this year and his career. It's not so hot.

Hanley is a hitter when he is healthy. Hanley is going to kill himself someday out in left going for a ball.

Casual fans will also endlessly bitch about his weight when it's not the real problem.

And when Lackey had a bad arm and was pitching poorly, the problem wasn't his horseface, but it was fun to call him horseface. The same goes for Panda, or as Spud calls him the "tub of gue."

Exactly. I will say again that I was not a fan of the Pablo signing, but I find it ridiculous that so many people want to trade him after less than 3 months of play. At least give him some more time to adjust to the pressures of playing in Boston. His hitting has been pretty good outside of May, in which the whole team was horrific offensively. His defense has hurt, but he is not as bad defensively as he has played the first 2 months.

SK, I almost always agree with your posts, but I don't agree with the idea of trading Sandoval after 3 months. After all, the Giants were able to win 3 WS with him on the team.

Sorry. He has been a disappointment so far.

I watched Rent A Wreck and Julio Loogie flounder for about this long before I knew they were not meant to be here.

My big problem with Fungu Panda is that he makes so much money ( regardless of how anyone justifies it with WAR , post season heroics, or salaries of other 3rd basemen ) and will be here for another 4 years of obesity and substandard play.

In my book, players with that kind of price tag should consistently perform much better.

The money does not bother me as I think they are all way over paid. The market is what it is for them and I can't fault them for collecting the money, or the owners spending their money how they want. All I care about is trying to watch this pathetic team. If they were all getting paid $75,000 a year, it would not be any more fun for me to watch.

Any trade partner who knows what they are doing would squeeze the Sox to take a huge part of the remaining contract. Probably not even worth it.

Agree 100%. We've got at least three DHs on the roster.

Now, maybe I just missed it, but Joe Kelly seriously suggested he might win the Cy Young?

Sandoval's value isn't in the regular season. His reputation was made by the way he played in the playoffs and world series. He would be an attractive addition to any team which needed a bat for a playoff or world series run. While I still wonder why Cherrington signed him, I wouldn't want to trade him without an equitable return preferably a good arm. I just don't see that happening. I think the Panda will be in Boston next year.

They're still not picking up much of the rest of the contract that comes along after this year's playoffs.
