Not really sure why the Pirates went with Volquez for a must-win game. The result was predictable. 5 hits, 5ER and 3 BB.

Because they were close with the Cardinals for the division, used up their top starters. The Cards were ready to use Wainwright on the final game of the season, but they luck out.

The only way KC can win is the hard way. They don't have high end power anywhere in their lineup, they have to fight and claw and scratch and scrape. They're the exact opposite of a traditional moneyball team but they're finding ways to make it work for them. I wonder if that's how the league and its fans saw the original moneyball teams before the method behind the madness became clear.

That lack of top performance is going to come back to bite them eventually when up against a team with some real explosiveness, but I think we've seen that that team may not be LAA.

Too early to say that Doj. If the Halos come back and win tonight I think they will take the series, though I will admit the Royals' win last night was a big one for them and could loom even bigger as the series switches to KC.

Yeah I don't get why Detroit has not built a good bullpen.

Maybe they have tried and failed but it seems a shame that they have built an otherwise championship quality team yet have such a cough it up pen.

I don't care, really. And I do prefer that the O's win the whole deal as I have said before.

We all lament the Sox major failings this season. But the Sox have had a pretty good pen for several years even with the failure of two closers to even contribute last year.

I bet the Tigers would not mind having Badenhop or Mujica about now!!!!! Hahahahahahaha!!!11!:P

i cannot believe he took out sanchez to go to joba and that terrible pen of theirs. they are so scared right now. none of their bullpen arms are confident enough to get 1 out it seems like.

So far there have been some good games in the playoffs this year.

I like this because my team is not in the post season and I have no real reason to watch.

I hope that Peavey does not get lit up in the 6th! I have a feeling that he may fade!!!

Cant stand the dodgers nor the cardinals.Itd only a matter of time before wainwright gets shelled. He looks shaky.

d-money, take it from me if you wish but Wainright is a choker of the first order. He will cough up the game tonight as he has coughed up most of the big games he's pitched in the playoffs. The guy simply cannot hold a lead when he gets one against a good team. We saw it last year against us and, believe me, nothing will change this season either.

Unfortunately it is not possible for both teams to loose.

Kansas City is the exact opposite of a Cinderella story. All of their success is coming after midnight.

Sounds familiar, Roberts steal and Damon's walkoff in The Comeback were both after midnight.

The Royals seem to have a strategy of forcing other teams to make mistakes. Put the ball in play, wait for a mistake. Run the bases, wait for a mistake. Scratch a few runs with infield hits, hold the tie or at least keep the game close, and wait for your few power guys to run into one. It's a wierd playstyle, but I'd love to see it work because I'd love to see the sorts of things they're built around (fielding, pitching, and extreme speed) rewarded and perpetuated.

That the Royals are up 2-0 against the team with the best record in baseball this season is kind of a shock, but as I told my ardent Angels fan wife, they are not out of it and could come back even though it looks pretty tough right now. I did notice and brought to her attention that the last week or so the Halos did not play all that well. Perhaps they were de-compressing after running up a very hot summer, but Playoffs are a strange animal. Face it, except for maybe one or two seasons since the Yankees ended their dynastic run of four titles in five years, there has not been a clear cut favorite for the title heading into the post-season. It is the reason baseball is such a great sport, the best in my opinion. You never know what is going to take place in these playoff runs.

Scioscia's record in the postseason is shaky. The batters are cold.He rested up players before the postseason. That works against u sometimes

What a stupid move by Matt Williams removing Zimmerman after a walk in the 9th with 2 outs after dominating the Giants giving up only 4 base runners. Just another example of managerial stupidity. Edited by a700hitter
