What offer would realistically have a chance of getting the Angels to trade Mike Trout? If that seems impossible, what trade offer would be close to fair value for Trout?
Posted

Ha. How do you construct any trade for Trout? This could only happen if the Angels ownership had a sudden financial disaster, and even then they'd unload Pujols and Hamilton first.

But anyway, I suppose the Red Sox would be asked for Bogaerts, Betts, Owens, and whoever the Angels considered our second-best pitching prospect.

Red Sox give Xander Bogaertz, Henry Owens, Garin Cecchini, and Jackie Bradley, and Dustin Pedroia ( eating half the contract)

Angels still hesitate.

Mike Trout is the kind of player that Angels fans will still be buying the jersey of in 100 years, much like someone like Ted Williams or Babe Ruth. Think about that.

Clay Buchholz, a semi trailer filled with naked women, a life-size statue of Shaq made entirely out of platinum-plated diamond, seven hundred million dollars, and a written and signed promise never to trade him to the Yankees. Anything short of this is going to result in insincere promises to "think about it" while the Angels execs make the "jacking off" motion with their hands and roll their eyes on the other end.

3 team trade:

Nationals give Bryce Harper and some pitcher to the Angels

Angels give Mike Trout to the Red Sox

Red Sox give Jake Peavy, JBJ, and Breslow to the Nationals

Ha, I put down Capuano and Betts as a joke, but I didn't want to flame anybody. Turns out someone was going to do it for me anyway.

From a Yankee perspective....

Pineda, Tanaka (with Yanks eating whole contract), Sanchez, Mason Williams, Jagielo

Yeah, still garbage after I think about it.

Trout's trade value dropped a notch when he got his big deal. But it's still astronomical and borderline ridiculous. You would have to think any team wanting to trade for him is gonna have to give LAA their pick of the litter when it comes to prospects. It'l also cost your someone of their choosing from the ML roster. I love to kick around trade ideas but I can't even fathom one that would peak LAA's interest from a Sox stand point. Miami could offer Stanton and Fernadez + prospects package(I have no clue about their system). That might at least make LAA pause and think if the prospect haul was good enough I guess.

Why do hypothetical trade threads always involve contrived deals for a superstar lol.

So many of the lost games were so close... close enough that one hit or one sacrifice would have made the difference in whether they win or lose... that if they only had two .225 hitters in the place of Bradley and Drew over the past few weeks, they'd probably have chalked up five or six more wins.

Of course it may be a bit too late for this year, but when Middlebrooks and Victorino are back in the mix, this team will be much less of a train wreck. Though of course I'm also hinging my assertion on having Drew watching the games on TV and Mujica selling hot dogs up in the bleachers.

I'm with you all the way on that YT but there is no way this side of the universe that the Angels would even listen to a trade offer for Mike Trout. Already out here he's become an icon while Angels and Dodgers fans argue who is the biggest young icon, Trout or Clayton Kershaw. I also ask myself where OUR next young phenom?

Youre a Red Sox fan, that is to be expected from time to time. Red Sox and Yankee fans are so much alike, it stinks, and they dont even know it

Just kidding. Who hasnt done that, please stand up. Nobody? Thats what I thought.

Hell of way to come on board with a weird post like that. And for the record, Red Sox and Yankees fans are not alike at all, the most obvious difference is that the latter think that a WS Title is their birthright and anything less is abject failure. Red Sox fans just want their team to be in contention every year and when the chips fall our way we thank the heavens instead of taking it with a conceited grain of salt. And don't forget that.

You sure about that? Because i know a lot of Red Sox fans that certainly act like Yankees fans. Not all of them here, mind you.

It sure does seem like more and more Sox fans are displaying a sense of entitlement (I'm not pointing to anyone in particular.) As a whole, we are behaving more and more in the manner that we so disliked about the Yankees fans (no offense to Yankees fans). It almost makes you want to go back to the days when we were loveable losers. Almost.

Lol. Very good post.

Kimmi: Being new here I want to tell you that I consider myself somewhat "entitled". But I do not expect that the Sox to go to the playoffs and further each year.

As a fan since 1966 I have become accustomed to the ebb and flow of my team's success. I am certainly well acquainted with the feelings of being a "lovable loser".

I just have come to expect that my team is competitive each year. Not because of the three titles this century. But because it has been competitive most of the years of my fandom. Also, I believe that this market demands it.

It's because the team is competitive most years, that I don't see any reason to criticize the FO so harshly. I'm not saying that you do that. Sometimes it will work out according to plan. Sometimes it doesn't. But if the FO puts together a team that, on paper, should be competitive, they've done their job. They really can't control what actually takes place on the field.

This year's team is projected to be competitive. The team also has the flexibility to make in season moves to fulfill what needs might arise and to improve itself midseason. The sense of entitlement to me comes from those who insist that this is not good enough, that we must sign whatever player at whatever cost because John Henry can afford it.

If the internet had existed earlier as well as forum boards such as this, I doubt seriously that the loyal fan base of lovable losers would have existed quite so quietly as they appear to have. We didn't have a choice. None of us enjoyed going into a season hoping for anything better than a last place finish in the league. But - it was baseball- we loved the game -did not have these types of outlets. With the payroll the current team operates with and the farm system that many suggest is outstanding, there is really 0 reason why we shouldn't expect this team to compete aggressively each year. Call it what you like - entitlement - acting like a Yankee fan or whatever, "on paper" they should produce. This will be an interesting year. Jobs are on the line at every level. Too many question marks for there not to be. They are taking some risks which quite often can be good but if they don't work out a pic I am sure will be payed.

Mass media and the ability to research and interact in virtual communities (more like mental communities) have changed the fan. Fans have become more devoted, knowledgeable, polarized, especially with the ability to watch every team game, which includes the preseason. The amount of speculation and coverage of trades and drafts has also contributed. There's one major difference between Yanks and Red Sox fans - they don't cheer for the same team. Even folks that do don't necessarily get along.

I'd like to see the sox best the rest, land that stud Cuban prospect, and win the WS like most fans for their teams. You're a perverted fan if you don't want your team to win the WS. Sox lately have a better chance than most and have been winning them. It's a good time to be a Sox fan.

Entitlement can nip you in the butt when you don't end up getting what you were expecting. There are kids 10 years old growing up knowing only how competitive the sox have been winning 3 championships after 86 years of drought. That'll even change seasoned fans.

A couple of great posts there. The only point I might question is the devotion of the fan. I think that there are more devoted fans today but growing up with this team there were and will not be more devoted fans than those of us who have stuck with this team through thick and thin. And I do mean thin. Thin hasn't been the same in general since 1967. I agree entirely with you when you say certainly the biggest difference between Yankee fans and Red Sox fans is that we simply cheer for different teams.

The nature of the allegiance is less local, more abstract. A lot of fans don't live in the vicinity where the team plays home games. No doubt fandom has changed somewhat. I hope you enjoy the season.

I have to admit that I am looking forward to it more so than in some past years. There seems to be a great deal of intrigue here. A ton of questions that need to be answered. I still think that the Sox are holding some strong cards and that there will still be some significant moves made as we go along. Thank you and I hope that you enjoy the season as well.
