No offence to Masterson, but with his issues against lefties, Drew and Nava couldn't ask for a better way to get their sticks going.

Masterson has been getting pounded lately.

"Even when given the chance to make a full start, the right-hander has struggled. He's 0-2 with a 9.98 ERA over his last three full outings, walking 11 with seven strikeouts over 15 1-3 innings in that span."

As I said before, I like the guy and kind of miss him. However, I want to see him completely disgraced and run from the game inside 4 innings.

The Sox have won 7 in a row and I'm in a greedy mood.

Number 8 tonight!!!!

I think the clock has struck midnight for this guy. A nice story last year, but a switch hitter that can't hit right handed ever and at all this year is not going to help the Sox offense this year. If you can get anything for him I would trade him.

@PeteAbe: #redsox have signed OF Andres Torres, 36, to a minor league deal. He is a veteran of 650 ML games over 9 years (2002-05, 2009-13).

Who goes: Grady or Nava?

Or it might be: Grady or JBJ?

Pretty sure it's not Nava.

Andres Torres, the epitome of a total reject. No team wanted him this year, he barely hit over 200 last season, he has no power, very little speed and adds nothing to the team. What the hell is going on in Cherington's head anyway? This guy is just another Jackie Bradley save for the fact that he is old enough to have been retired. Oh, I get it.....he is the handler for the Manchurian Candidate.

Sheesh, this is the outfield help? I'd say dump Grady, only because he is probably an injury waiting to happen, but I think I'd rather have him than Torres right now,

'cause his upside is higher....

But if Ben doesn't do something substantial to help the team before much longer, it will be disappointing. Or has he already determined that he's not going to make any sort of splash and just keep turning over rocks and see who pops out?

I'm waiting to hear a700 say this is more of Ben's "dumpster diving". :)

He is headed to single A ball to start out and must graduate from there.

This move is not intended to bolster the current roster ( which is futile ). It is merely another organizational depth signing.

At least I hope so!!!

This doesn't even arise to thelevel of dumpster diving. When this guy was in his prime, he wasn't good. There is no intent or hope here to improve the major league team.

Well, he did "coin" the phrase after all....;) LMAO!

Well I have always though that this moniker was a riot. Especially when applied toward Dempster.
I aim to entertain, but sometimes I miss that mark badly and people get offended.

Looks like Nava is starting to hit the ball again. Could be another potential trading chip if the Sox completely fall out of it.
I don't think he could bring back much value. He's probably more valuable to us as a platoon/AAAA player.

Nava was asked to be something he wasn't----a leadoff hitter and it pretty much stifled him. Now batting finally in a more comfortable spot he seems to have started turning it around. He was a solid player for us last season BEL and young enough so you don't lose it overnight. If he keeps hitting well he is a good platoon candidate, and, who knows, he might also start hitting lefties a little better with his confidence restored.

I see Nava in a more positive light than most on this board.

I think that he is a solid ( not great! ) left fielder in Fenway and maybe just average in other ballparks. I'm speaking of his defense.

I think that he has made himself into a good major league hitter ( if only against RHP ). I don't like that he is a platoon player but hey, .300 BA in over 400 PA is sort of valuable, eh?

I was hoping that the trip to Pawtucket would allow him to sort out his batting and it appears as though that has happened. If so, then there is one broken piece of last years team that is fixed and should produce.

The Bradley issue will work itself out ( beginning to hit or be sent to Pawtucket ) and hopefully very soon!

I'm not at all surprised that Victorino is still on the sideline. Hamstring injuries never go away from what I have learned. Last season we were lucky to get as much out of him as we did. I think that to expect him to return to that level of production now is wishful thinking.

The more I think of it, the more I believe Ted was right in the off season. The Sox needed to pursue and acquire a RHH outfield bat ( hopefully with some pop ). They did not do this. The choices concerning the formation of the 2014 outfield were poor ones. Now the Sox have an outfield that rarely produces runs. Not that this is THE problem with the Sox offense. The injuries to WMB and in particular Napoli have not helped. Pedroia with his injuries and possible decline have hurt. And despite his knack for timely bombs, Ortiz has not been what we have come to expect. AJ and Ross are exactly what we should have expected.

This offense is offensive to a true Red Sox fan. It's an insult, really.

But I remain hopeful!!!!! I don't know what else to do! :)
