First one to do it with two different teams.

In 8.2 innings, Brandon Workman didn't allow a single earned run this postseason.

In 7 innings, Felix Doubront allowed 1 ER.

In 7.1 innings, Tazawa allowed 1 ER.

In 13.2 innings, Uehara allowed 1 ER.

In 7.2 innings, Breslow allowed 2 ER.

Morales sucks.

The Sox faced these three teams in the playoffs:

Tampa Bay - #9 in MLB in record, #11 in MLB in era, #11 in MLB in runs scored, #7 in MLB in ops, three CYA caliber starters in Price, Moore, and Cobb

Detroit - #6 in MLB in record, #9 in MLB in era, #4 in MLB in starters' era, #2 in MLB in runs scored, #2 in MLB in ops, three CYA caliber starters in Scherzer, Verlander, and Sanchez

St. Louis - t#1 in MLB in record, #5 in MLB in era, #5 in MLB (#1 in NL) in runs scored, two CYA caliber starters in Wainwright and Wacha, dominant bullpen

And against this murderer's row, the Red Sox just ripped off an 11-5 record, for a .688 winning percentage.

This Red Sox team is, simply put, phenomenal.

The pitching really, really came through for Boston this postseason. Just amazing. Some facts:

- ERAs in each series:

- ALDS: 3.03

- ALCS: 3.06

- WS: 1.84

- OVERALL: 2.59

- Lester + Lackey:

- Lester: 5 g, 1.56 era, 0.95 whip, Sox went 4-1 in his 5 starts

- Lackey: 5 g (4 starts), 2.77 era, 1.19 whip, Sox went 3-1 in his 4 starts, and 4-1 in the 5 games in which he pitched

- Bullpen:

- Koji: 13 g, 13.2 ip, 0.66 era, 0.51 whip

- Workman: 7 g, 8.2 ip, 0.00 era, 1.15 whip

- Breslow: 10 g, 7.1 ip, 2.45 era, 1.77 whip (only bad number in the bunch)

- Tazawa: 13 g, 7.1 ip, 1.23 era, 0.95 whip

- Doubront: 4 g, 7.0 ip, 1.29 era, 0.86 whip

- TOTAL: 44.0 ip, 1.02 era

Pretty freaking incredible performance by these five guys over the course of the whole playoffs.

I didn't think his regular season numbers could be topped. And yet they were. Facing some of the best offenses in baseball, under the most pressure-packed circumstances possible. Amazing, amazing season by Koji. One for the history books, no doubt.

Gulp ... but still very happy for Lackey ... he turned his life around and for that he deserves mega credit.

David Ortiz is the first non-Yankee to win 3 World Series titles with the same team since Jim Palmer of the Orioles.

Have to love the big guy!

I was a Lackey hater from the start but that changed this spring. I was happy for him and glad he was on the mound last night.

A guy like Daniel Nava will own in his possession a World Series ring. Insane.

This makes me really happy. So happy I want to find Mike Carp and bounce on the dugout steps with him.

Apparently, Ells left hand and wrist were much worse than we could tell just from looking although he really was looking kinda' tender at the plate of late. I guess he told teammates that they had to win game 6 because he really did not know if he could have played a game 7.

I can attest to this. You were all giddy about his weight loss and the possibility of him being the Lackey of old, then you promptly got shot down by a700 who said that there's always a story about a guy who looks great but then doesn't come through. Guess Lackey showed him. LOL!

He went from dislike to me actively rooting for him early on in the season. He lost weight, had better demeanor on the mound and was just a workhorse.

However, I will not apologize for hating his historically awful 2011 season.

Barry Bonds in 2002 had a slash line of .471/.700/1.294

David Ortiz 2013 .688/.760/1.188

What is even CRAZIER about Ortiz' postseason was his slash lines in the previous 2 rounds:

ALDS: .385/.556/.923

ALCS: .091/.200/.227

Basically, David Ortiz had two "Barry Bonds early 2000s" series while transforming in Pete Kozma in the middle.

I totally get it - and I do agree. That said, you have to wonder in retrospect how hurt he was while he was doing that.

None of that is really surprising. When you look at the numbers by playoff series for a player who's been in the postseason a lot, you see some hilarious bouncing up and down. Much like you would if you broke the regular season up into 5 game chunks.

No doubt. He was hurt. Shouldn't have pitched that long with an injury. If they replace his arm at the trade deadline in 2011, they make the postseason.

It seems pretty clear he was very hurt in 2011.

Maybe - although ALL of those starts being given to Tim Wakefield's corpse, Kyle Weiland, Andrew Miller, Eric Bedard ... take that and whatever 50% of Lackey's true level ... you had substandard pitching for 76 of their 162 games.

In retrospect, winning 90 games in spite of the garbage being shoveled on the mound on a nightly basis was something.

Lackey shouldn't have pitched so long hurt - but the team had literally no options. His frustrations personally clearly bled in also. I disliked it too at the time and do not second guess myself. But in retrospect I do respect what a warrior he was that year too ... a cranky warrior to be sure

That's not that crazy. Nava may have stunk it up in the postseason, but he still had a really good season overall.

John McDonald, yes, that John McDonald, is getting himself a nice, shiny ring. So are:

Daniel Bard

Brock Holt

Jonathan Diaz

Brandon Snyder

Joel Hanrahan

Jose De La Torre
