The big impact of Ells definitely being gone, is that I don't think we can go into the season with 3 LF's. One of Gomes, Carp and Nava need to move on and be replaced with a backup CF type in my honest opinion, for maximum depth and ability to handle the kind of attrition a full 162 exacts from a team.

I'd love to see what the Royals' asking price was for Jarrod Dyson. As a righthanded platoon partner for JBJ and a speed demon off the bench, Dyson would make a ton of sense for this club. Doesn't hit much, but he does boast a .335 OBP against LHP which with his elite speed makes him interesting in a platoon/roleplaying mode and his speed makes him a possible Dave Roberts redux..

.335 OBP in a platoon seems pretty meh to me.

I've been saying this for a while. I can see the Dodgers trading Kemp, opening up a good amount of payroll, and paying Cano.

Also - don't sleep on the Tigers, after getting rid of Fielder and all his money, they could turn that into Cano.

As a side note for Kemp, I wonder if the Sox sent Cecchini, Ranaudo, and Lavarnway, if the Dodgers would eat the 35mm I mentioned above and the Sox could get Kemp for ~15.5mm/year.

Sorry SFF but you're residing in dream land. Cano will be back with the Yankees. Take that to the bank. Just as I said Ells would wind up with the Yankees, so will Cano be back. As for the injured and loafing Kemp, it would be stupid to trade two of our best prospects in Cecchini and Renaudo when we are trying to get younger and stay away from those strangling contracts. Now if Cano does go elsewhere you can ream me and tell me that I blew it. I wish that happens.

I'm hearing the Marlins are also in on Napoli, but I can't imagine that they can match the offer the Sox will be extending, plus even if the offers are close, the Sox have the massive appeal of winning.

Come on SFF, wake up!!!!! Winning is secondary to these types. IT IS ALWAYS ABOUT THE MONEY!!!!!! Now say that 1,000 times and learn from it . If we don't pay Napoli he will leave and we will be up s*** creek without a paddle.

Because of Kemp's injury history I would never give up Cecchini and Ranaudo for him. I think the Red Sox FO should be very careful dealing with LA. We bested them so badly with the AGon, Crawford, Beckett dump that my gut is telling me that taking Kemp off their hands will in the end help even the score. Cecchini is our next Wade Boggs, Bett's in our next Ellsbury. Ellsbury is gone ... JBJ will do fine. I had a good night of sleep. Stay the course.

Bravo Mark....couldn't have said it better myself if I even had Lincoln's genius on words. Keep our kids. We need to get younger by the year, and sign Napoli now!!!!!!!!!!! Stay away from the Dodgers. They are rotten bastard snake oil salesmen, just like the Yankees.

Dyson?????? Can't hit worth s*** and to elighten you we need a player who can hit and RUN and be able to handle the pressure of playing in Boston. Now that that bastard Ellsbury is gone, give the job to Bradley, hire a good base running coach who can teach him how to run and steal bases and let him know in no uncertain terms that he better f***ing hit for us next year.

This is where you start to sound a little crazy.

"Look Buster, you better f***ing hit this year or else..."

"Or else what?"

"We'll make you play ultimate frisbee with SFF, the career killer."

I don't want SFF to be anywhere near Bradley. No career ending wrist injury after signing autographs. No career ending elbow surgery from high-fiving fans. And ESPECIALLY no career ending back injury from a tough fall on the frisbee fields.

I agree, I think the package would open the eyes a bit of the Dodgers as well. And let's not forget, Kemp is a 40 SB threat as well. He's actually a 40/40 threat to be honest.

It's only a gamble because of his injuries. But when he's healthy, he's a game changing player. If you add Kemp to the OF (playing LF), you can afford to swallow the lumps of Bradley in CF. But, IMO, you need that extra offense from LF to absorb the rookie learning curve. Doesn't necessarily have to be Kemp, but I think we need a bit more offense from the OF if we're handing the reigns to JBJ.

I will be willing to take on Kemp as a Dodger Salary dump only and not giving up any of our top prospects. We can send Webster back is all. What would make Kemp an interesting addition is that he can play any of the outfield spots or I would imagine he can also handle 1B.

Thanks for the welcome all :)

I really am excited to see what moves the team makes over the coming months. The trading/free agent system in Baseball, is like chalk and cheese compared to the transfer system in soccer. It fascinates me.

Is the consensus that they might try to make a trade for a left fielder to add some power to the line up? I wouldn't be surprised to see them go with what they have now in the outfield, and just leave JBJ learn the ropes for a full year. I definitely don't see them signing any of the FA outfielders.

Also, are there any good journalists/writers I can follow on twitter or on websites, so that I can keep up with any insider gossip/possible moves with the Red Sox. Up until now I just get my news from this board.

Did you really think that just because Bradley's a black CF he's got the talent to steal bases and just doesn't know how? Talk about your stereotypes.

Don't put Ellsbury on Bradley. No more than Bradley's best should be expected of Bradley. Take what you can get and set your expectations somewhat short of escape velocity for this unproven kid. That's what I've been trying to tell you all all offseason, and for that I get accused of hating on the kid. I don't hade JBJ, I just recognize that we don't know what we'll get, and I don't want him held up to jacoby's standard. Evaluate Bradley for what he is, don't set the kid up to fail because he's not Ellsbury.

As for Dyson, yes, as a speed guy off the bench with a bit of usefulness against lefthanded pitching he makes some sense for the team. I stand by that opinion. If you want to disagree with it, feel free.

Hitch ... if you really want to know what moves the Sox should or should not make just listen to me. Do yourself a favor and never listen to UN or MVP.

Glad that we get at least some kind of consolation with the Yankees getting ready to lose Cano and Granderson. Least they can do.

Granderson still makes more sense for the Red Sox than Kemp.

So Pal, you were right about Ells, so a deal's a deal. I guess no Thunder GT mojo in 2014. Let's talk to YOTN to set it in stone.

Funny stuff there.

I'm hearing Ethier. He will come cheaper with salary relief than Kemp. He can play RF but can't hit LHP. He is a friend of Pedey's. They might even be willing to take Dempster, who is worth more to them in the NL than the Red Sox.

He is helpless against Lefties.

I guess this means that the Yankees will pass on Grandy. I would not mind getting him. The Red Sox FO thinks very highly of Grandy and tried to get him before the Skanks swooped in and snatched him.

The ladies would love that, it would lessen the loss of the attractive Ells.

True, but....

1. The Sox have Gomes to platoon with him

2. He was destroyed by Dodger Stadium. Look at his splits:

Home: .229/.308/.364

Away: .311/.406/.478

If you put him in the right situation, he could be a very good player. Don't have to be a complete platoon, but if you have he and Gomes manning LF, that wouldn't be bad production at all.

Get the Dodgers to eat his contract down to 4/42 (currently at 4/68.5), he'd be worth a look

Granderson isn't the worst option, he would definitely provide a ton of power in the lineup. He's a career .261 hitter with a career OPS of .828. Definitely not terrible. I'd still like to see them go after a cheap option like McClouth. McClouth isn't a power hitter like Granderson but he has good defense and could replace some of the speed in the lineup we're losing with Ellsbury gone.

I'd be on board with a move for Granderson. None of the injuries that kept him out this year are the kind that are likely to linger.
Posted
Grandy would be a nice option but i thought he was a shoe in to go to the Mets. So that why i havent listed him as a target for the Sox. Grandy in CF would be a nice piece if the other big bats cant be traded for.

What is Grandy asking? If he would want a 4yr/60million id hope the Sox would jump all over it. And also napoli is just a must

What's the consensus of the board on, if Napoli falls through, going after Joe Mauer? Apparently he's moving to first base just like Napoli did, his team's going nowhere, and he's got a bloated contract for the next 5 years that is pure undistilled bad news, especially if you're Minnesota. Minny unloaded Morneau last year so you have to think they know what price they'll accept for Mauer too. I would not mind seeing him play the role they had in mind for Napoli last year before they learned about the hip injury -- a handful of games at catcher and a lot at first base. He's not a premium power hitter but he doesn't need to be -- Mauer is one of those rare hitters that can generate a ton of offense without homers.

If a package for some of our flawed or extraneous guys, plus one solid prospect they can sell to their fans, would get a deal like that done I'd say the Sox would be silly not to go for it.
