McCann is too much $$$. Vasquez is better defensively and will be the full time catcher in 2015.

That's what you said last year when Toronto was stealing our shorts! Where did that get the Sox, huh??? It's not like they won anything...

I don't get it. People are flipping their lids and the FA signing period just began. Even if they let all 4 major FA's go it really wouldn't be the end of the world unless they didn't have replacements waiting, which they do for three and only need a platoon partner for the other. I don't get the angst.

People just need s*** to bitch about.

Making fun of mental illness? Pretty cheap and cruel. Can't believe you haven't been banned.

I wasn't making fun. I was being serious. This isn't the first time you pull this s***. Get off my nuts.

Back to actual baseball:

"A Phillies-[Carlos] Ruiz reunion still seems likely," MLB.com's Todd Zolecki writes. Zolecki wonders if it was the Phillies who made Ruiz the two-year, $20MM offer the catcher reportedly has on the table. The Phils are known to have put early offers out to several free agents already and GM Ruben Amaro recently made a point of saying that the team wouldn't wait long for Ruiz to decide.

Trying to discount the narrative that Ruiz can't hit righties, he has a .758 career OPS against them. Even though he was pretty terrible against them last season, his entire body of work suggests he can hold his own against them. With McCann being too expensive, and Salty still sucking on defense, he may actually be the best value they can get at catcher. Sign before the Phillies plz.

With the new cba and along with it the new draft spending restrictions the three supplement draft picks tied to Napoli, Drew, and Ellsbury are extremely valuable. With that in mind, I think Ben sticks to the same plan he had the previous year in that no free agent signings with a draft pick tied to them and furthermore not resigning anyone with a draft pick tied to them. Look for 1-2 year contracts with high aav (Hart,Salty,Ruiz,Young) and multiple trades.

I would consider the off-season a success if we signed Hart 1/12, Ruiz or Salty to 2/20, and Young 2/16. Moved Dempster and Possibly Peavy and acquired high upside prospects cof and 1b

RF Victorino

LF Nava

2B Pedroia

DH Ortiz

1B Hart

C Salty

ss XB

CF JBJ

3b WMB

OF Gomes

OF Young

UT Santiago

C Ross

I really think that one of Carp or Nava gets moved this year, in this scenario its obviously Carp.

You started this. I'm ending it. Stop now.

Sorry YoN, with all due respect you are wrong here. UN? started saying "Please stop saying stupid things". I just let it passed since he loves to start s***. Wonder what's stupid? This is classic UN? When somebody disagrees with him. You should have stopped him first IMO.

Anyway, I'll drop this.

Ben's approach is the same as it was last year. He has his nose in every trade and every player within reason, but rarely gets serious unless he sees a good deal. He spent plenty of money last year, but he mostly went bargain-hunting. The concern I have is that Napoli is pretty crucial to this team, and so far they reportedly haven't broken 1 year yet. I guess they could go with a platoon of Carp/Baker or Carp/Konerko, but why not splurge on the middle of the order bat that makes sense for every reason?

Palodios, I do not know a Sox fan who does not want Nap's back. I know plenty of fans who think that Nap's is the only Sox FA of the 4 that is a need to come back. Give management time ... we really do not know the full and complete story with what is going on between the two sides.

I think we have to be patient. There's one school of thought that the Sox are waiting for Napoli to get legit offers from other teams to see what they have to match.

I think this is exactly what is happening. I think Nap and Salty will be the two of the 4 FA who will be back. Nap is the bat in the lineup to slot in behind Big Papi to give him protection. And Salty made leaps this year calls game i think he should be back as well.

You would think that Salty could frame a pitch by now ... he has been playing baseball since what 7-8 years old. We could always use Salty in the Pen as his ball also has fairly good late breaking action.

Do you ever make a post here that's not whining about someone/something? Please stop.

Again, it's November 15th. The only FA to even sign was Marlon Byrd. I kept preaching the same thing all through last season, and the Sox won a WS. Let the guy execute his off-season plan.

Ben has earned the right to take his time. Be patient. He'll be shaking his juggies soon enough fellas. Get your George Washingtons ready.

There is absolutely no choice but to be patient this year because FA's are not going to jump at early offers anyway. None of them want to leave big bucks on the table. So, we will all just have to wait it out. BC's measured approach makes sense to me. He is not making the market for anybody which still leaves him in the position to pounce.
