The bad:

- Peavy was terrible.

- Pedroia was terrible.

- Too many wasted chances offensively.

- The Sox face Sanchez, Scherzer, and Verlander - who combined to absolutely dominate the Sox their first go-round. Tough hill to climb.

The good:

- The bats kind of woke up, even though they only got 3 runs. Nice to see some actual hits.

- The bullpen continues to be amazing - up to 13+ innings of scoreless relief.

- 2 of the next 3 are at home.

- Lester and Buchholz go next...hoping they can get two excellent starts from these two.

We have been stoned 4 straight games by the Detroit starters. We have not scored a single run in innings 1-5 in the series-barely threatened to, in fact. Crazy.

New day rising. Wake and rake.

I'm all for this. Like Bellhorn said, we've been dominated by the starters. There's no reason that has to continue. Time to score some early runs and make the Tigers uncomfortable for once.

With the way the Red Sox have been hitting, they need two big performances from their starters. For all the bitching I've heard about Lester "not being clutch" between 2009 and 2013, he pitched a strong game 1, and improved his postseason career ERA to 2.41 in a tough 1-0 loss. Crazy to think about it, but this isn't the biggest game of his career, or even his second biggest-- and yet it may be the start that defines his career.

Red Sox win 3-2 tonight.

If we learned anything from this game... It is that thunder is completely mojoless.

Well if that's the case he has to be told that he has to buzz off the mojo wagon. I'll let you and mvp handle that end; you both have a tendency to be a little more diplomatic that I sometimes am. Besides, he is taking one for the team by going away from the mojo caper. Right now we need all the good thoughts and vibes we can get, though to tell the truth I kind of get the willies believing that there may actually be something to this mojo stuff.

Try this one out......October 16---we lost 7-3. Nine years earlier we got swamped by the Yankees, 19-8 and falling back 3-0 in the 2004 ACLS Playoffs.

----------------------October 17---Roberts' steal, Mueller's hit and Papi's bomb and we begin the greatest comeback in post-season history.

Maybe we can use that for a little mojo tonight.

I forgot about the 19 run loss. Thanks Fred -- hopefully they will get some fire under their asses tonight.

Lackey ain't too bad either if it gets to a game 7.

Let's just win the next two though.
