The coverage of this series has been much better than the Tampa series. When Tampa pitching was up, they would talk about how good the pitcher on the mound was. When Tampa hitting was up, they would talk about how good the tamp hitter was. When there wasn't much else to be said, they'd romanticize about what it would be like to date Maddon. This one has been a bit less biased, I'd argue.

I agree. Those announcers were bush league.

McCarver is terrible, but I can at least tune him out. The only time Buck annoyed me was during Scherzer's game 1 interview and he kept fellating Max as the "pride of Chesterfield MO."

I can ignore every f***ing one of them. I'd rather follow a game on Gameday and the Talksox game thread than listen to any of these guys analyze the s*** out of what I can already see right in front of me. Eckersley is one of the very few who has anything worthwhile to say.

Maybe I have a persecution complex but for some reason I still think McCarver and Buck are not exactly romantic with the Red Sox. It could be and maybe is that my dislike of McCarver plays a role in this but I don't dislike Buck and he seems biased against us. Having said that I would rather hear them than those clods I hear on TBS during the ALDS. They all sounded liked they worked for the Tampa Bay Ministry of Propaganda.

I'll agree. And he's pretty funny sometimes too.

Speaking of Eckersley, did you hear about his failed restaurant? The health department forced him to close it down because his cheese had hair on it.

McCarver is terrible but I've got to admit that I've always kind of liked Joe Buck.

I've grown up around Buck. Football on Sunday afternoons, MLB all summer. I like his style. It's similar to what mine would be if I were a broadcaster, which is a career that I'm contemplating.

I'll say this, Buck has the voice and the manner. It's one of those voices that seems to make what he's covering seem kind of important. And when he's covering the Sox you really want them to win and you want to hear him say good things about them.

I know why McCarver irritates the heck out of people, but I think he deserves credit for one thing. He tries to point out the little things that go on, like how the fielders are positioned, or whether the baserunner should have tried to take the extra base or not. I'm not saying he does a great job at it, but at least he tries to do more than just state the obvious.

Joe Morgan is the self-appointed expert at pointing out all the little things. Specifically, what the player did wrong and how it should be done. Because, he, Joe Morgan, and he alone, knows everything there is to know about baseball. Scientists at MIT are working on a brain interface so they can download Joe's massive baseball knowledge from his noggin and back it up on hard drives.

McCarver is irritating but I have to credit him for a fairly accurate description of what the Sox hitters were going through during the K-athon.

I thought Buck was beyond irritating though as he seemed to be suggesting that this was a sort of "I told ya' so kinda' deal." Like the Sox were in the middle of getting blown out and they deserved to get blown out. Almost seemed like he was trying to set the stage for a hoped for super team WS of Detroit vs LA. Eventually I just wanted him to shut up.

I think his demeanor has a lot to do with it. People always complain that he sounds uninterested in the game but I think he gets properly excited at the right times.

Like last night's call on Papi's bomb, he's perfectly calm and professional and then the ball clears the wall and he screams "TIE GAME!" at the top of his lungs.

Yeah, that's what I mean. And on Bill Mueller's game tying hit in Game 4 of 2004 ALCS he says 'UP THE MIDDLE' really loud. It is kind of a cool delivery.

Anybody having trouble getting into this LA/StL game tonight. Usually post season baseball is such a draw for me that it does not matter who is playing where, I would prefer watching a baseball game to anything else. Maybe it is just because these last few Sox games have been so incredible that anything else seems like watching paint dry.

Usually I can't get into the NL series very much. I don't like the Dodgers but I don't really want a sweep either - that's just too boring.

I just want something soul crushing to happen to Carl Crawford before the series is over.

Yeah? Ha ha...I don't really care about Crawford that much but I know how you feel. My vindictiveness seems to be focused on Iglesias. It's not even his fault. It's just that on the other forum there have been people complaining about the deal and saying we traded a great shortstop etc.

A little more interest from the "beautiful people" of LA might actually make these games a bit more palatable. There is some polite applause every once and awhile but that is about it. Not sure anybody can take their eyes off their iphones long enough to know what might be happening in the game itself.

Agreed on Iglesias. Him wearing some goat horns after last night is pretty awesome. Everyone talks about his defense and he goes and throws it into the camera well to put the winning run in scoring position.

Yea I have had about all of the Iggy for Peavey "its a bad deal" talk I can take. If you come to terms with the fact that the Sox were always going to struggle with whether Iggy was a fit here or not, then it boils down to getting the best deal you can for him. There is just no way anybody would have thought you could get a front line pitcher for a guy that has yet to really prove himself as a ML SS. It is not like he has the potential to rip the cover off the ball. He has the potential to be a terrific defensive SS with a "tolerable" bat....thats it! I mean I love the kid and I could not muster up more enthusiasm than that for seeing Iggy in a Sox uni for a career. So not meaning to be malicious to Iggy, I was still happy to see him botch that play.

Iglesias could be a generational DEFENSIVE shortstop ... can he hit well enough, that is an open question. But I have no guilt about dealing him for Peavy. Shortstop - we had options. And when you see the plays Drew has made over the weekend, he is no slouch.

That's nice.

How many days in a row now have you said your birthday's coming up?

This was - maybe still is - my thought, but I will say that Joe Buck's call of Ortiz's grand slam was one of the very few times I've heard him legitimately fired up, during baseball at least. All McCarver cared about was Hunter's tumble over the fence though.

Buck is genuinely good ... but he has to drag a guy who is way too old to be doing this. His call on the slam was right on, and his work during the Game 6 of Rangers-Cardinals (probably the greatest baseball game since anything involving Boston-New York in 2004) was outstanding.

I think Tampa gets a lot of love from these baseball types because what they have done the last few years is genuinely amazing considering their resources and the apathy of their fans. Boston wildly underachieved last year (along with a comical level of injury) - so their redemption is a little less fascinating. Ultimately not a big deal here - after all, the scoreboard is sufficient.
