The only thing that could really have been or could be an issue for the Sox is sweeps against. There just is not enought season left for the A's unless the Sox are swept. Lackey came out and just dusted that possibility right off the table. Incredible big game performance by John....best of his Red Sox career without question.

Haven't buried them yet. A 2-1 series win or a sweep makes all the difference going forward, obviously for them, but for us as well. Sweeps create momentum, 2-1s just get you into the next series without feeling bad about yourself. This last game is big going forward in case we get blinsided by Baltimore or something and they take two games and make the home field race airtight.

Actually I would think you would want Cleveland to get in. I don't think much of their chances of doing any post season damage and would much prefer the Guardians to either the Rays or Rangers who can throw a top dog serious ace at you in game one of a short series and put you behind the 8 ball just that fast. Then again, if you think the A's are going to catch the Sox for best record overall, you would likely want the A's to face a tougher team than Cleveland in their division round. I just don't think the A's will catch the Sox. Hence I would prefer to see Cleveland catch the WC teams and make it in.

Great spirit and fire VA, but if you, me and others really want to stick to these guys the best way would be after we take care of our own business take care of them the last series of the year and knock their asses out of the Playoffs. That would be a real hoot.
