Did you miss the wink. I am not a fan of strikeouts as a offensive strategy. Yet,NESN interviews "Swing and a miss" Napoli about his highest per AB pitch count. They asked him if it is intentional. He answered very seriously that he consciously tries to see a lot of pitches. I was just shaking my head. He's not looking at pitches or being patient. He'd see half as many pitches if he made a decent amount of contact. Swinging and missing is not patience imo.

I know you were being sarcastic. I'm just livid at the rate this team is striking out this season. It's almost as bad as the Braves, but the Braves are a true outcome team as a whole. The Red Sox don't have enough HR power to play that game.

Just got home from work. Back up to 2 games in the L column

Thanks for the update! I'd tell you to shove the L column up your ass, but I know you couldn't wedge it around the signed Derek Jeter souvenir bat.

My first thought upon reading that was wondering whether or not Derek Jeter signed it before or after Jacko shoved it up there.

Somebody mentioned Nava. He could be their best pure hitter right now. It might take them a few more months to notice. At least Farrell has him high in the batting order. Ells badly needs to get out of that leadoff slot.

The lineup they had tonite was slow in the field. Drew hardly moved on that 1st inning ground single by Kipnis. Iggy might have had a shot at it. Stubbs blooper behind 1B to score the first run should have been Napoli's ball, but he isn't mobile enough to make that play. Pedey was shading too close to 2B with the RHD hitter up to get over fast enough to the foul line. And Carp almost missed a routine fly in LF.

Speed and defense are important, and aren't being utilized or emphasized enough on this team right now. They look like last years' team, swinging from their heels. Except for the great pitching by Buchholz and Lester, they might be a lot closer to .500, or below it.

Can we just bat Nava, Pedroia, and Ortiz... Maybe occasionally sprinkle a little Carp in there.. Just let everyone else ride the bench?

I have the same amount of hits as Mike Carp in his last 21 at-bats.

Last night was certainly a pitching matchup in favor of the Tribe. When we went into this series, I was hoping we could steal one of the first two (Masterson goes tonight against Lackey) because I felt (and still feel) very confident in the Sox in the final 2 games of the series (Lester vs Kazmir, 6.35 ERA and Doubie vs Kluber, 5.19 ERA).

Tonight's game isn't as big of a mismatch as last night. Last night was the Tribe's version of Lester vs Kazmir (who will now inevitably shut us down).

Squeak one out tonight and then take the games tomorrow and Sunday.

What are you talking about? McAllister is 9 starts into a season where he actually isn't terrible. He's a 5th starter and will regress to that point. Dumpster should have outpitched this kid

If the Sox falter this year, it will be because of their weak 3,4 and 5 starters. Dempster was a bad sign.

There's still hope in Lackey, or one of the prospects.

The other thing disturbing to me is the one dimensionality of their lineup, especially when Vic is out. Last night, the defense lacked range. And with Ells struggling, there is no base running movement in the lineup. Pedroia is hitting out of position in the 3 hole, trying to play the role of slugger. Farrell's weak spot is his handling of the top of the lineup.

The first 3 should be batting 1-3. They will score more runs that way.

It isn't clear to me who is controlling the batting order: Farrell or the FO. In Boston, you just don't know. My impression is the FO has a heavy play on the field.

Dempster was a bad sign after less than two full months? GTFO

He may regress to that point eventually, but he's clearly throwing the ball well right now, and has been this entire season thus far. Dempster has had zero command in 4 of his past 5 starts now (3 of past 4 going into last night). He clearly has some mechanical issues to work through and missed his side because of a high pitch count in his last outing, so he couldn't work on anything.

You're certainly wrong here.

Grade A faggot

Who gives a s*** about the loss column in May? Jesus.

Lol, if we were happy about being in first, he'd say "It's only May". When it's the Yankees it's all "pure dominance"

Don't tempt me.

You won't do, you little chihuahua. Give him a day ban next time he becomes a dickhead. All bark, no bite. Jacko forever going to get away.

New York fans are so cute the way they count losses in May. We play each other 16 times a year, moron.

Don't worry, there's still hope for Lackey though!

Iggy playing 3B tonite. I hope this isn't Daniel Bard all over again. The more sensible thing is to put Drew at 3B, Iggy at SS. If Iggy blows it at 3B, it could hurt him more than help. He's a model great field, no hit SS, who could be another Aparicio in a few years.
