Hope Victorino isn't out too long. This is a pretty good lineup, but Ells is wearing out his welcome.

Farrell persists with Ells batting leadoff. That doesn't help their run production.

I see Tito is off to a great start in Cleveland. A hint maybe his problems in Boston was the FO pulling the strings. Always thought they declined when they lost Hoyer and Byrnes, and laid off James and the other consultants. That was '08 or '09. Lost Manny about then, too.

I don't even think it is helping Ells to have him batting lead off at this point. Farrell must want him getting AB's. So he stays in the lineup. But lead off. The guy is killing ua. Having him bat lead off screwed two innings at least last night. They can't afford to just give innings away.

As for Vic, at least there is a chance now that when he comes back he won't be nursing a tender back. I would not be surprised if his running stride was a little out of whack because of the tender back. He really did not look right walking or running or batting.

Oh s***, two severe thunderstorms are looming. I'm scared after yesterday's events. I might lose power. Good thing I have a generator(bought it after Sandy). Don and Jerry for all!

I see they have Iggy playing 3B today in Pawtucket. I guess they are trying to keep his bat in the lineup. LOL.

Do you have to post the same thing in every thread?

Or because he's so bad that the offense needs to work that much harder.

That's some sound baseball logic there. Players only want to hit for certain pitchers!

I do believe he wants to get his point across UN?

Really soxsport? The FO? Can't imagine that.....

Tito is a good manager. He will always be my favorite. Hope he continues to have success in Cleveburg.

Tito had his flaws in the end but was never the REAL problem with this team. I lay most of that on Larry L.

Please. Don't even start. Larry L hired Bobby V. It was time for Tito to go. But I am happy for his success and hope it continues (unless it's against the Red Sox).

Also happy for Farrell's success thus far. Ben finally got a manager he wanted.

What does Larry L have to do with batting two slugs like Ellsbury and Gomes at the top of the order so that Papi has a good chance of leading off the second inning? I don't care who is making the lineup, but any lineup with 1 or 2 slugs batting at the top forcing Papi to the 4th slot is just a bad lineup.

We can all bitch about Ells as much as we want. And we will. But...........

Farrell sticking with Ellsbury for now

CHICAGO — Red Sox manager John Farrell is sticking with Jacoby Ellsbury at the top of the order. But he has given thought to dropping the struggling center fielder down.

"I've considered it, yes," Farrell said. "We're sticking with him to hopefully give him the opportunity to come out of the situation he's in right now. I can say this: Whether he's hitting first or somewhere else in the lineup, there's still things he has to address."

As for other news:

• Shane Victorino (left hamstring, back) is out of the lineup. "We think this is a short-term thing," Farrell said.

Farrell said the organization has discussed whether it would make sense to put Victorino on the disabled list to get fully healthy. "We're not any closer than we were last night to make a roster move at this point," he said.

Farrell indicated that he would use Victorino as a leadoff hitter if a change were made because he would want speed at the top of the order. So his being out is a factor in Ellsbury not being moved.

• David Ross (concussion) had a full day of working out back in Boston. He'll play in a rehab game or two this weekend before he is activated.

• Daniel Bard has not pitched for Double A Portland since May 15. He remains on the roster but has been shut down and is throwing in the bullpen.

If I am not mistaken it is Mattingly this year that is the guy that is on the hot seat that has also been left in lame duck status. I suppose we will never know if the Sox were just going to let Tito go at the end of his last year here and left him a lame duck because of their intention. However I think it should be pretty obvious by now that if you want to leave your manager with no tools to use to deal with the players, leave him a lame duck. Of course, since players tend to be pretty self aware if not self centered, don't expect your team to do s*** if you leave your manager a lame duck. Manager's don't have the same kind of impact on game outcomes that Head Coaches have in Pro Football. But if you don't have a guy running the show, your f***ed.

Happy for Tito. Whatever anybody thought of him here, he did not deserve to exit baseball based on his last years here.

Why are we talking about Tito if Ellsbury batting leadoff is causing a problem? Who the f*** cares about Tito. good luck to him, the clueless bastard. He's my all-time favorite Red Sox manager by a long shot.

It is encouraging that Farrell at least acknowledges the problem with Ellsbury and perhaps if Victorino (the ideal option) were healthy enough play and lead off, then it would be easier to move Ellsbury in the order.

Goaltending keeping the Rangers in the game tonight so far. Bruins have had two breakaways and several other scoring opportunities in the first period. So far, stoned by Lundqvist.
