Honestly I don't want to see every guy in a Sox uni going up to the plate thinking he is swinging a boat oar even if Mickey Mouse is pitching. They just need to be better than that cause they are just not our father's bash down the walls Red Sox team.

Lester's performance tonight has been the very definition of "Ace".

Without a doubt, so nice to see Lester back to dominance!

A win and a day off for our bullpen. Check and checkmate. I'm pretty sure Born already had the high score for gamethread wins this year so it's nice to add to the total.

Not to be brag but I believe this makes 8. With two of those being near no hitters and two walkoffs.

Farrell may have learned his lesson about pitching Tazawa and Uehara in garbage situations.

If the Red Sox win and Yankees lose tonite, MLB TV will have nothing to talk about tommorrow. They spent tonite gushing about the Yankees, while the Red Sox have been trying to dig themselves out of a pile of media mud.

It was bound to happen after the hot streak though

The media is after Papi for PEDS. Cripes, it's the Buchholz/bullfrog story deja vu. Everybody's doing it, but let's pick on the Red Sox. No question about how all those old castoffs are doing it for the Yankees. Hafner, Overbay, Wells...

Nice to see Lester play the role of stopper as in losing streak stopper....perfect job in that regard tonight...maybe even the first time I have seen him do a perfect job with respect to being a stopper. Really happy for him.

I just got home-- glad to hear Lester dominated, saved the bullpen, and got the win.

Its hard not to be optimistic about this pitching staff. Lester-Buchholz-Dempster-Lackey all have ERAs in the 2's.

Hopefully the 5th spot won't be a huge problem, but it looks like there might be a few solid pitchers available at the deadline as well. Peavy, Vargas, David Price, Norris, Tommy Hanson, Johnson, Garza all seem like possibilities now.

I am hoping that the success of the other four starters makes it easier for the Sox to see their way to grabbing up a 5. It wil be a bit of a choice though. You have to think Webster will be here next year. Maybe they pick somebody up and eventually trade him to make room for Webster.

This teams needs to have a better baseball IQ with RISP.

The offense has been in a rut, no doubt. They're pressing in the RISP spots. But it's part of the ups and downs of the season. I think it'll get better again.

Keep in mind that Lackey's ERA is only that low because of the throwing error on Thursday.

I agree with you though. This staff is looking solid, and they should be able to pick up a good 5th starter at the deadline. I personally like Samardzija, but Theo's not giving him up.

Had he not made the error, no runs would have scored and he would have been out of the inning.

But having a pitcher's error not count as an earned run is ridiculous.

But he did make the error and then imploded. It wasn't as if the defense made a mistake and then he gave up some bs bloop hits/hole finders. He made the bad throw and then got SHELLED. The inning happened. I've always believed that if it's the pitcher that makes the error then the runs should be earned. It was 100% on Lackey.
