I see they're suddenly after Papi for PEDs. First it was Buchholz, now Ortiz. Do I detect a trend?

The club was 12-4 when Papi came back. Been playing about .500 since, but they have lost a lot lately.

Ortiz has been thumping pretty well, but it's still the pitching that wins or loses for them. Doubt Ortiz is a major factor.

Just so everyone knows, the reason the Sox lost tonight is because they did not re-sign Papelbon. That is all.
Such stupidity is unhealthy. That is all.

I would love to see how Farrell handles this with the team. The change in offensive approach seems so obvious. Would love to see how Farrell tries to get them going back in the right direction again.

In part some of them are pressing. However they changed their approach before they started pressing. So that is really significant I think. Hopefully it will make it easier for Farrell to get them going again.

The last two innings of this game are an indication of what their offensive approach should be all the time.

It's alarming they are losing at home to such a lousy team as Minnesota, and can't hit one of the worst staffs in baseball.

It may be alarming, but I don't find it surprising. They have played much better than expected up to now.

They started the season playing smallball, with a smallball lineup. They got pitching, and won games.

Maybe Ortiz had a negative effect in the lineup, oddly enough. Too many guys started copying him, instead of trying to get on base. Drew certainly had a negative effect--didn't hit a lick for 2 weeks and cut down the range at SS and speed on the bases. MBks has lost his batting eye. Gomes can't get into the lineup. Closers hurt.

Farrell needs to roll the film back, and figure out what they were doing right a couple of weeks ago.

I just hope they don't end up thinking they were doing well at one point and not so well now because "thats baseball". There are real differences in what they were and are doing.

Lackey actually threw a very good game tonight. Defense was just atrocious.

So far our top 4 have been outstanding:

Lester: 3.30 ERA

Buch: 1.60 ERA

Dempster: 2.93 ERA

Lackey: 2.82 ERA

I still think Webby is a better starter than Doubront, too.

We're going to need our pitching to stay on top. That's our key to success, imo. We all saw the damage that happens when the pitching fails. This team will click together on offense, defense, and pitching soon. When they do, teams better watch the f*** out, especially because they're very streaky. Plus, our schedule for the next month isn't too bad.

Well, we got Ramon Ortiz vs Jon Lester, then Buehrle vs Buch, then Morrow vs Dempster. So, on paper, I really really like all 3 of these match ups. Hopefully the sox tighten up and start playing sharper.

Wouldn't surprise me at all to see these guys go something like 7-2 in their next 9. Hope they get back in track.

We've owned the Jays this season so far, so to play them at home to get back on track seems very possible. We're 3-7 our last 10 games. The Yankees and Orioles keep creeping up on us with every loss. Really hope they pick up the series win at least.

The yanks have crept past. The old, beat up jalopy is putt putting along on the strength of good pitching. Grandy is in rehab games and Tex got good news, so our health is looking up!

The fact that Lackey made a fielding error which caused his runs to be unearned is so dumb. It doesn't make sense.

However, the pitching has been fine (wasn't that the big concern this offseason). The bats will come around.

Our hitting is so inconsistent. Some nights we make s*** bum pitchers look like aces and some night we make aces look like s*** bums.

Start with Ellsbury pathetic performance this month which has YET to score a run. He sees two+ pitches average his first 3PA each night, promptly retired on a weak hit ball to second. Nava meanwhile has score as many runs on the season as Ellsbury with 50 less AB, while doesn't have Pedroia, Ortiz and Napoli behind him most night. Ellsbury is making it easy to let him walk.

Did you steal that gem from John Sterling?

To be fair, Lackey completely imploded that inning. It wasn't just a bad break. I saw that coming the second he threw the ball into CF on the DP attempt. He's like that. He's TOO emotional. Things get tough and he just implodes. Last night was a prime example. Even when he's on his game he's still just one bad break from a completely implosion.

Don't get me wrong, I'm rooting for the guy, but I don't think he'll ever becoming dependable again.

Then again I'd have said the same 7-2 thing prior to this 4 game series.
