Hes hardly useless.

I see your username is WMB16......talk about a useless player this year......its funny that the guy we used to have playing 3B gets the winning hit.

Maybe he's not useless but by no means would I want him in with the game on the line.

Hes a decent 6th inning / mopup guy.

This isn't on him.

Happy birthday man! Sorry about the loss but hope everything goes well.

Hey everything has been fantastic minus the Sox.. Can't win them all though.

Farrell may have been in a box in this game but I really don't like the way he used the pen down the stretch of this game. Miller to one hitter there was a waste. Wasted Taz and Miller at the same time really. Still would have taken my chances with Mortenson there or maybe even Wilson.

If Farrell was that uncomfortable with Mortenson to Berkman then he should have had Miller for Berkman who was very likely going to come up in the 9th anyway.

That was a ******** bloop hit, should have been caught

i would not call that a bloop hit though. Beltre is a very professional hitter. That mighty swing at air for strike two woke him up and he realized he has the fastest guy on the team on 2nd and the winning run on his bat. That pitch really had nothing on it and no chance to Beltre once he decided to just dump the ball into the outfield. You want Mortenson in the game before you get to the 9th inning.....almost like clearing Mortenson. Instead you used guys that could at least have a chance in the 9th and got stuck with Mortenson in the 9th. If I was going to be forced to use Taz today...that is where I would have wanted Taz.

If he really worked it right he would have had Miller for Berkman and Berkman is swinging like a rusty gate.

This team is ruining my freaking vacation.

Talk about a disgusting and pathetic series. This was embarrassing. 4 runs in 3 dys?? GTFO. That's ridiculous.

I know what it's like to deal with these annoying losses. The Sox have an effect on me as well. So far it's been more good than bad, but still. Screw the Rangers, we'll get em next time hopefully. Just enjoy your vacation as much as you can before going back to reality haha.

Just curious, who do you consider "real teams"?

Detroit,Texas.....I guess that's it......just saying we struggled with the Royals who are a decent team, beat the Jays when they are going terrible and those Yankees wins were very early against a hurt lineup. The Rays sweep was nice! not saying we are a bad team by any means

Oh alright, cause you made it seem like they don't deserve credit. Well the Royals are leading the division but only because of win percentage. We haven't played the Tigers so it's not fair to make that assumption. Texas has a history of beating us so not really shocked with the outcome. We beat the A's who are contenders. I hate the Orioles but they are too. We could have swept them but the last 2 games the bullpen just choked. Your statement would be more valid if we were facing s***** teams that have no chance at the division. Only team we played that was really bad was the Astros.

Hopefully they can at least be consistent and beat the Yankees/Rays/Orioles

Don't forget Toronto!

If Lester and Buch continue to pitch as they have this team should win a lotta ballgames. If they fall off to just plane great instead of other-worldly, they should win a good many ball games.

Dempster has been as advertised which has been better than his real detractors had suggested at the start of the season. More importantly Lackey is looking like a second 3 more than a 4 or a 5. I don't trust Felix at all at this point. He is simply screwing himself out of a job. Hey some guys are happy to have donned a ML uni at all .....others are Pedro or Schill.

Main concerns, Felix as an absolute hole in the rotation even for a 5 which may be where he is headed. The way we are using the pen...by the time Frankie and Bres get back, Taz and Ueh will be toast. The number of K's....this team K's at a pretty incredible rate and Pedey is in a tough spot. He needs to heal but seemingly can't, not playing every day and he is right in the 3 hole.

The problems shrink compared to the contributions of Lester and Buch. All off season we asked the question...can they do it and if they can will they keep it up for an entire season?

You certainly can't complain about their record to date and you cannot complain about the games themselves...it has been interesting so far. If Lester and Buch were to fall off so far that they are just OK, it is going to impact wins and loses and that bullpen is going to look like a death march the way Farrell uses it. That is my only real complaint about Farrell. He has been solid so far and on balance you would have to say he is a plus compared to the average manager and a big plus compared to what we just went through.

Bullpens are crazy things. For a while there in the early going we looked to have a strong, deep pen. Then Aceves blows up, Hanrahan is shaky and goes on the DL, and now Bailey is MIA. And the Japanese duo are getting overcooked.

Well you guys said it all----a real s***** weekend for our team.....Ellsbury is getting no big contract except from a gullible team, Salty isn't worth s***, and Mortensen and Wilson may not even be worth that. Punch our ticket out of Texas and hope we don't wind up cratering after this miserable display of baseball. We better wake the hell up now.

The game was lost purely in how the BP was handled--changing relievers too frequently until only the unreliable ones are left. These are the kinds of close games you want your best relievers fresh and ready to pitch in the late innings. That means the starters can't go less than 6 innings, and relievers have to go more than one inning. If not, you run out of relievers after 2-3 games. At this rate, those two Japanese pitchers will be burned out by July. Further, the durability of Bailey and Hanrahan is in question. Both never seem to be available at once.

Where is Morales? Breslow finally seems ready to pitch. What they should have done was plug Webster in the rotation and put Lackey or Doubront in the BP. But the FO is very slow to make these kinds of changes when they're needed. Instead they keep getting burned by unreliable guys like Mortenson because he has no options left. His lack of options is costing them wins.

SoxSport, I guarantee you there are some people who will be very angry as what you just wrote, but you are right. Though the front office has been running better this year, they still have a tendency to do some things with their heads up their collective asses. This option crap is one of them. Of course we couldn't DFA guys with no options left because the Yankees might sign them on us and then they will come back to haunt us. We've heard this song before.:thumbdown:thumbdown:thumbdown:thumbdown:thumbdown:thumbdown

That was about a crummy a sports weekend for Boston fans as is possible.

- Bruins lose their playoff game

- Celtics lose to the Knicks and get eliminated

- Sox get swept by Texas

- Sox' closer gets hurt (not much of a surprise there, but still)

Well, glad it's over with. Time to move on. It would be a good day for Clay to come up real big and start a new winning streak against the Twins.

Even with getting swept, the Sox are still in first damn place. The Sox might not win the division, but some insufferable people on here need to cool it with the everything sucks schtick.

Good advice with "time to move on."

One piece of good news this morning amongst the continuing Buch crap and the sorta crappy results for the local teams this weekend, Olney is reporting that the Sox are actively looking for an upgrade to Salty and looking possibly to do something before the trade deadline.

Comment from the peanut gallery:

Its about time! Thank God and any other phrase of that sort you would like to toss in there.

In Ross's last four games, he's gotten on base 11 times. Yet somehow Salty pinch-hit for him late yesterday. I'm not holding my breath.

There's no reason to look externally, we've got Lavarnway hitting .311/.423/.492 in AAA right now.

Bring him up.

And if you're worried about facing RHP, don't. He's got a .914 OPS vs RHP, .921 vs LHP.

Yes, clearly not everything sucks. It was a sucky weekend, but over the course of a long season, you're going to get some of those. Even the '27 Yankees (110-44) had some bad stretches:

- lost 4 out of 5 from May 20-27, to Cleveland and Washington

- lost 3 in a row from June 25-26, to Philadelphia

- lost 4 in a row from August 19-22, to Chicago and Cleveland

So, yeah, if the '27 Yankees can experience this, the '13 Red Sox sure can. Sucked, but it's over with. Probably will happen a couple of more times this season. But all in all, it's been a great start so far. Couldn't be much happier.

No, they don't. They can react whatever way they want. It's a message board. Those who look to censor others are insufferable. Talk about baseball, not posters.
