In all seriousness, CC isn't the same pitcher, but he really hasn't been since his first season in NY. When he was in Cleveland, he was a fireballer. Since coming to NY, he's been more of a change of pace guy who had a good fastball. He's learned to adjust to his lost velo by slowing down his breaking pitches and his changeup. He can pitch to any location with any pitch and his stuff is still nasty, it just comes in slightly slower than before. I am not worried about him, really and truly. His style of pitching will continue to be highly effective as he continues to lose velo. I'd be more worried if his stuff was still there, but he couldn't take the bump due to knee or back issues.

Interesting revisionist history. There's no difference in Sabathia's velocity or peripherals from 2007 with Cleveland and 2009-2011 with the Yankees. When he started changing as a pitcher was last year. From 2007-2011 (as far back as pitchfx goes on fangraphs), Sabathia averaged 93.82 mph on his fastball, his fastball had a positive win value, and his HR/FB% was always below 9%. In 2012, Sabathia lost 1.5 mph on his fastball, his fastball had the worst win value of his career, and he had a career high HR/FB of 12.5%. Then, this year his fastball lost an additional 1.6 mph on his fastball, his fastball win value has been the second worst of his career, and he's posting a new career worst HR/FB% of 14%.

This isn't something that happened overnight. In the last two years, he's lost 3.1 mph on his fastball and posted the two worst HR/FB% of his career. Does that mean his career's over? Of course not. He's still a solid #2 or #3 starter right now. But whether he'll remain a solid #2 or #3 pitcher if he loses another 3 mph on his fastball is yet to be seen. Someone who's posted back to back years of the worst home run rate of their career is not someone who's made the adjustment to pitching with diminished velocity.

As a baseball fan, I am looking forward to the return of Derek Jeter. He has always been my favorite MLB player. He's such a role model to young kids. He's not stuck up like most athletes in big markets.

Wait, Derek Jeter is your favorite baseball player? Please leave your Red Sox fan card, man card, and human being card at the desk, then quickly find the tallest building in the area, and throw yourself from the top of it.

I've loved him since before I even knew about the Sox-Yankees rivalry.

Okay, I shouldn't have used the word love. I didn't realize how immature some of you are.

I'm not a "fan" of them and hope they struggle all year long and Yankees keep losing. But I've always respected Jeter and Rivera and before he was a Yankee, Curtis Granderson used to be one of my favorite players, its just hard to root for ANYONE once they put on that uniform.

Never trust someone from the nutmeg state.

Santana has not been a very good pitcher in his career in general, he has ERA's close to 6 against a lot of good teams, and a lot of pitchers have ERA's close to 6 against the Yanks from when they were the premier offensive team in the league.

At what point do the Yanks realize that reinforcements ain't coming and cash in their trade chips? They're probably good enough to make the playoffs... but the bar for the organization is set much higher than that. When you have a top 5 player heading to free agency in Cano, it might be worthwhile to see who is the most desperate.

Not sure how you didn't know about the rivalry. It started way before you were born...

I was too young to comprehend it. The first time I saw Jeter play, they weren't playing the Sox. My half brother lives in Manhattan and I was watching a game at his apartment. I think it was in 2003.

I agree you should never trust someone from the Constitution State. I freely admit that I am shifty.

I know some pretty sketchy and shifty people myself. Not AJ Pollock though. Did anybody see the catch he made last night? To think that I'm going to the same high school as him in the fall.

If you're good enough to make the playoffs you're good enough to win the World Series. It doesn't mean you're the most likely team to do so ... you may be the least likely team of all ten that make it. But as cliche as it sounds, once you get in you have a shot, especially in baseball where it's very much a crapshoot.

And I'm not saying the Yankees are good enough to make the playoffs. I'm not sure that they are.

Derek Jeter took four at-bats in his 2013 New York Yankees debut before running into injury troubles again. According to reports, the shortstop began suffering tightness in his quad during his third at-bat against the Kansas City Royals on Thursday, and will be given an MRI. Manager Joe Girardi stressed that the injury had nothing to do with the fractured ankle Jeter suffered in the 2012 ALCS last season.

He's out through the ASB. We have the Twins for 4, I am not too concerned right now. I will be more concerned if he cannot go coming out of the ASB. A grade I strain should heal on its own, but the guy is 39 and coming off an ankle injury, it could become a recurring issue

Yankees starting to decline again. Perfect timing before my trip

YEP! CC got lit up giving up 8 of the 10 runs the Twins scored. Of course, Joba gave up one too.
