Look at the bright side. CC's got his velo back. I think he's just adjusting to his newfound velocity and is struggling a bit with fastball command. He'll be fine.

Well, I don't know if I would say it's back. It's better than it was earlier in the year, but it's nowhere close to what it was in 2011 and I don't expect it to return to that level. The velocity, though, isn't my primary concern. He stuff just doesn't play that well vs RHBs anymore, and that has manifested itself into him having a ton of difficulty missing bats. If he doesn't improve in that department this current iteration of CC is probably here to say. Remains to be seen.

Yeah, the velocity was good, although it's not what it used to be in the summer months (sitting 95 and topping out at 98/99). I think some people tend to forget how hard CC threw, even in recent years, once the weather warmed up. But again, sitting 93 and topping out at 95 is more than fine.

But I think saying he was unhittable early in the game is a pretty big exaggeration. I can show you games where CC was unhittable, and those looked far different than this one. When you're making those sorts of evaluations, the result is far less important than the process. Sure, CC didn't give up any hits, but he was behind in too many counts, had too many balls hit in play, and couldn't miss any bats vs righties.

Again, as stated in my initial post, he was struggling with fastball command throughout the game. He made good pitches to get out of tough situations even though his fastball command was awful. Harbinger of future success imo. You are, of course, welcome to disagree.

That's fine, I don't disagree with any of that. But the performance you just described is not an unhittable one. I'm sure you agree with that.

Well you need to execute to get outs. Even if he was falling behind, they couldn't hit him because he was executing in tough situations.

Ok, maybe we have different definitions of unhittable. But then that's a semantical argument, one certainly not worth having.

Well i'm speaking about the literal definition of "unhittable" as it pertains to baseball. Meaning they couldn't get a hit off him. Not even a lot of loud contact.

Fair enough. When I hear unhittable I think of Pedro pitching a one hitter and striking out seventeen guys in Yankee Stadium ... or pretty much any start Pedro made from 1997-2000 for that matter lol.

Fatty will be fine until his knees collapse under the weight of his massive, doughnut-filled body. (Obligatory Red Sox fan attack on Yankee player)

Yankees now 1.5 games ahead of the fourth place Rays, with two days left in June. My prediction about them being in fourth place by the end of the month might not be that far off.

They're fading. Their offense is abysmal and now the pitching is having some struggles. If the pitching isn't on point every night, then a losing streak occurs

Your lineup is so decimated now it's about as bad as ours was after the trade last year. Needless to say your pitching is a lot better.

Well, the Yankees did indeed fall to fourth place by the end of June like I predicted. This is where I expect them to say, a few games over .500. It should be a fun battle between them and the Blue Jays to see who will finish out of last place this year.

All logic dictates that they should win no more than 85 games. But I still don't feel comfortable writing them off this early. They're like an ailment that keeps coming back when you thought it was gone.
