Webster, Ranaudo from AAA and Aceves can spot start, so can Tazawa on the worst of circumstances.

Renaudo? Really? There'd have to be a mass shooting in the PawSox clubhouse for that to happen.

We will have to disagree about Napoli being a cleanup hitter.

IMO, the problem isn't whether or not Napoli is a cleanup hitter-- its that they are going to be very vulnerable to right handed pitching without Drew and Ortiz. Their best left handed hitters at this point are Ellsbury, David Ross, Bradley, Nava. Ew.

Pedroia hits righties well though, a little better than lefties.

Webster, Aceves or Tazawa could be spotted in for a start or two, but none of them would be good options for a month of starts if someone goes out with an injury.

I don't trust Aceves. After many 1 inning collapses last year, how many runs can he give up in 5 or 6 innings?

I didn't think I would mind it yesterday, but today it seems cruel that the MLB gave us an off day today.

I'll never understand the day off after OD. Seems dumb. Give the players a day when they need it, like in August. And the fans hate it. Plus, if there were ever a game that a rainout would be easy to make up, it would be the OD game. You literally have ALL YEAR to make it up.

Next week, the home opener is Monday, with a day off Tuesday. :dunno::thumbdown

Corection Pal......Unless David Ross switched positions at the plate, he hits righthanded. Otherwise your take on things bear watching. I just wonder if Ortiz is going to have a very slow month or two before he gets his timing. He has had slow stats before and that seems to be a problem for power hitters who have a long swing and swing from their heels.

Ah, gotcha. Wrong catcher. Saltalamacchia.

Well, to be fair, though, righties don't generally have the split problems that lefties have.

Guys like Pedroia, Napoli (.866 ops vs rhp last hear, .845 career) and Middlebrooks all hit righties well. Throw those in with Ells, Bradley, and Salty, and that's a pretty solid lineup vs RHP. And as soon as Ortiz and Drew get back, they'll be very good vs RHP.

After so many years of a relatively balanced lineup, it just feels weird to have 3-4 righties in a row.

we definitely will need a long journey man, and Aceves is going to fit that bill. and from what i read Webster is ready as well. so we do have alteast 2 options. and i do believe we can make do with Aceves/Webster starting for a month

I don't know, the past 2 year, to me, felt like we were extremely susceptible to LHP. But maybe that's just a full moon belief.

If I recall, it seemed like they were weak to LHP, but it wasn't actually true. I remember SoxSport ranting about being weak to LHP, and looking up stats that showed that they were actually stronger against southpaws. Then Soxsport ignored my post, and made the same argument in about five to six other threads, so it stuck in my memory.

Well, CC is always inconsistent against the Sox. David Price has won a good percentage of his games. Those are the two best in the AL, so it seems like the Sox are right in the middle. They've handled CJ Wilson fairly well too.

Aceves has zero history of success as a starter. Webster is our best shot at a guy that could step in and take regular turn. We don't have good depth.

agreed. that he has very little to none experience. but he has that flexible arm that can give us 4-6 innings. and he has done that once ..gone for 3-4 starts for us in 2011 i believe.

so explain to me what would be a good depth at AAA ..

there is DelaRosa, Webster.. DLR is erratic but he has time in AAA to get his stuff together. Webster is closer than anybody and then we have Aceves who can be the last option. now we cannot have a 32 year old major leaguer at AAA can we... and we traded our no 1 pitcher for Agon

I was just going to say the same thing, does he not know the Talksox bi laws for game threads? lol

We have two options:

1. One of us makes it, breaking the mojo.

2. We go without one and hope for the best. It is Buchholz vs Kuroda after all.

Going without one is just as much bad mojo as someone else starting it.
