What did you guys think about Andrew Miller today? Seemed to have a lot of velocity but not much control.

Pretty much same as always. Inconsistent. First two hitters he looked terrible, next two he looked good.

If he could ever just find a way to get some decent control, he could be a great relief pitcher, he definitely has the stuff.

Loving it. I had no idea what was going on during the game, as I was working, but I asked every single person who came in today wearing either a Sox or Yankees hat what the score was. It was nice seeing the Yankees fans' moods gradually getting worse.

Haha, nice. That's the good thing about living in CT. A solid mix of Sox and Yankees fans.

It has been a long time since I have seen such a punchless Yankee lineup. I hope they get buried deep in the standings right from the start.

That's one thing about the Yankees. They don't have the guns to be able to get buried early and make a comeback. If they get buried early, they're a .500 team.

And by buried early, I mean dropping to 6-8, maybe 10 games below .500 early.

Looked to me like he was really amped up to start out. He doesn't have a whole lot of control to begin with, them you get him pumped up and he's going to miss badly.

When he harnesses his control, he's got retarded good stuff, though.

You know what I loved seeing yesterday?? This team FINALLY started grinding out at bats again. 8 walks yesterday. Tons of pitches seen. It's been a few years since we've seen a team go up there, get into pitchers counts, work themselves back into hitters counts, and draw walks or get knocks.

Beautiful thing.

Yes, that was missing last year.

I saw Ortiz in the dugout yesterday. Has he started running yet? What is the timetable for his return?

The wind was whipping very hard for the first few batters, and you could see a considerable amount of movement in his uniform. When the wind died down, he looked like a much better pitcher.

He was doing windsprints without pain recently. I had head late April/Early May, but it could be sooner.

The weather is going to be pretty cold in NY the next couple of days. Tomorrow's projected high temperature is 47 degrees. It should be pretty frigid at game time.

I would think that would help the Sox more. Most Sox players live in the Boston area and are used to colder weather. The Yankee players just buy mansions somewhere down south.

He's going down to Fort Myers after this series, so it might be early to late May.

I'm not surprised. A bunch of yuppies in New York who can't handle rain, and the wind. When their team is losing its even worse. This New York team is god awful. Their prospects are all in A ball. This team is gonna hurt.

I know it's VERY early but I think Benny Boy did a great job with this team.

The Yankees have priced out the average fan. The expensive seats are sold, but they come with access to restaurants and bars etc, so in bad weather games those fans don't go to the seats.

As for Benny Boys performance, it is way too early to come to a judgment.

This Yankee team is so derelict that I think we will have to wait for Toronto for anything like a test. They might take 1 of 3 from the Sox. I would actually be somewhat worried if they could take 2 straight form the Sox. The Yanks brass are apparently bound and determined not to open up the purse strings to solve this problem although I don't think they really knew how bad it would be considering how late in the game the last two injuries came on them.

I expect the Yanks will try to keep playing Yankee baseball shorthanded in the next game. However if they put up another 2 spot, and Salty is catching game 3, I expect them to test Salty. I don't think they will have a choice.

I know it is early but I'm saying on paper, this team looks very underrated and they can do some damage.

They need Ortiz in the lineup. Napoli is not a a cleanup hitter for a competitive team. The pitching holds the key to this team. They need to perform and stay healthy. There is no depth behind them. We haven't had our starters stay healthy since 2004 so it is a long shot IMO that we will not have to look for replacement(s) along the way for extended periods.

There is some depth. We have depth at catcher (Ross, Lavarnway), SS (Drew, Ciriaco) , and the outfield (Gomes, Nava). I know some of these back up's aren't Major League players but there are some depth

I disagree with you though, IMO Napoli is a cleanup hitter.

I was referring to pitching depth. That is where we have a problem.

We will have to disagree about Napoli being a cleanup hitter.

Webster, Ranaudo from AAA and Aceves can spot start, so can Tazawa on the worst of circumstances.

In 54 innings with Texas, Uehara gave up 33 hits and 4 walks, with 66 K's. That's a 16.5-1 K/BB. Ridiculous numbers.

It seems to be a head scratcher Bell. My only guess is that they looked at his age and believed he couldn't repeat that type of relief pitching. It sure looked like a bargain pickup for us yesterday and I heard he had a pretty good ST, though I don't know what his ERA was down in Florida.

Jopete and Jason, frankly Miller kind of pissed me off yesterday. I was feeling real high and then this guy walks the first two batters he faces. Hell a three run lead isn't bad but now the tieing run is at the plate with no outs. Glad Farrell took him out with two outs because a homer by Youk and we would have had a brand new ball game and all of us would be reaching for the bi-carb.
