What a best-case scenario. The two tougher wild card teams give it their all for an elimination game, fly to Cleveland for another game, and the winner flies to Boston for the ALDS to face a well-rested Red Sox team.

 

The problem is, because of the built-in off days, if the Rays advance, they will have their rotation lined up perfectly with Moore and Price to face us the first two games.

 

Rays have to go down.

Perfect night for the Rangers to get Cruz back. He's in the lineup against Price. The Rangers have a rookie starting because they couldn't reorder their rotation since it was too important to even get to this game.

I don't even bother trying to scheme any more with "if this team knocks out that team, it will be better for the Sox." I don't really care who wins tonight, but I prefer the Rays to the Rangers as a team.

When is someone going to start a postseason thread? Tonight's game technically is a regular season game, but the regular season is definitely over.

On a side note, it may not be a good thing if the Sox play Game 4 of the ALCS on my birthday. In 2003, Aaron Boone hit the walk off in game 7, a game I have no memory of. In 2004, it was game 3, the game the Skanks won 19-8 in Boston, a game I have a very vague memory of. In 2007, the Guardians beat the Red Sox to take a 3-1 lead in the ALCS.

But finally, a good game: 2008 game 5, Sox were down 7-0 going into the bottom of the 7th and won in the 9th. The next game in that series is the last playoff win for the Sox.

Dang, I couldn't see this game. Got home like 20 mins ago. It's so freaking weird knowing that one of those teams is done. It happened so fast. The ONE time I want the Rangers to win a game, they don't. This is good for baseball though; either Francona will have a historic ALDS against us, or we'll add some history to the increasing drama of the Sox/Rays rivalry.

Funny how Russell Martin seems to be so much less of a douchebag now that he's not wearing pinstripes. Love the guy now... hoping the Buccos make a deep run. If any city deserves it, Pittsburgh does.
