This is meant to be kind of a catchall discussion for people who are brave enough to try to analyze themselves as fans. Or to just shoot off about what it means to be a fan.

As for the poll, please note that what it's asking is NOT how positive or negative you feel about the 2013 team specifically. It's about how positive or negative you think you are as a Sox fan, IN GENERAL.

If you select 1 you consider yourself a true wearer of the rose-colored glasses. If you select 10 you consider yourself very pessimistic, skeptical, etc.

I am guessing most people don't want to put themselves in one of those extreme categories.

I'm selecting a 3 for myself. I try to be objective but I know I'm always looking for the positive spin on things.

I try to "keep it real" by not bullshitting others about the Sox (honest) prospects, but ultimately I'm a big ass pushover when it comes how I'll allow myself to convince myself "that it will all work out, and things will fall into place just right for the boys when they've just about run out of time for a resurgence to matter..."

If you couldn't understand a word of that lol, basically I'm objective and honest when discussing the Red Sox with others, but wear the rose-colored glasses while blowing smoke up my own ass when it comes to being honest with myself. Range between 6 thru 1...mainly 1 as I love the Red Sox wholeheartedly :ortiz:

I chose 4. I also try to be objective and positive. Sept 2011- Sept 2012 was rough. I have put it in the past, as it is and should be. I am looking forward to this season and have hope. When BV was announced as the new manager in 2012, I was so bummed but tried to be optimistic. He turned out to be the dolt and failure I dreaded. Obviously, it wasn't all him by any means.

A lot of the fan base has become an embarassment, obviously. Constant negativity by some, I can understand to a point. But it gets so annoying, old and boring. No need to wave pom poms and expect the best either. There is a happy median, right? I hope so.

Personally, I will always love this team and hope for the best. I think it's time for ownership to move on. But what do I know? I'm open-minded about Cherington and Farrell. The roster is very promising top to bottom. Not big on predictions etc. So psyched for a NEW season.

Good poll Bellhorn.

I'm an optimist, tried and true, through and through. Any player I want to like has to try really hard to get me to change my mind and I'm usually one of the last rats to leave the ship.

I picked 2 because of my tendency to set low expectations in the first place, which isn't exactly polyanna territory.

I'm a solid 5. I'm usually right in the middle but for every thing I get uber excited about there are things I will kind off poo poo, so that evens out. I follow each season closely but when it's over I move on fairly quickly. Usually because it's football season :D

Shouldn't it be a pollyanna to miserable grouch scale? I'm not sure "skeptic" is the right word.

Maybe not. But I figured nobody's going to tag themselves a miserable grouch.

My feelings of the Red Sox are based on what team they field. Based on this one, I'm going with 10.

So if you don't like the team your a grouch? Ok you do realize you just admitted to being a "fair weather fan" right?

back peddle in 3..2..1..

5 is dead middle, thats a cop out.

I said 6, I try to remain optimistic.....but the realistic side of me eventually takes over.

No, 5.5 is dead middle on this scale. That means your answer is just as much of a copout. Math!

I call myself a 3 because I never quit in the team last year specifically and always think they're going to do something great.

I would say I am generally about a 5. I don't know what you would call that - level headed, a realist, middle of the road........whatever.

I try to think positive about the team and I will always talk up the good things they do but I am also not shy about criticising the team if I think they are playing poorly or they make mistakes off the field.

I reckon I got as high as a 3 when Terry Francona was here, I felt the team was really good then and every year I felt like winning the WS was a live possibility. At the moment I have probably sunk to about a 7. I just don't know where this current Red Sox team is headed. So if you average that out then it comes to 5.

5 for me.

I don't know that I can label myself. I have been an extreme fan since the early 1960s and have seen the really bad and the great...but have always supported the Red Sox.

I think I'm a realist with hopeful leanings.

So I'm the only admitted hopeless sap aka "pollyanna" here huh...Oh well I were it as a badge of honor.

Solid 2. I'm an optimist, but enough of a realist to know that i don't really understand how to run a baseball team, unlike some here. That allows me to usually stay positive.

You probably don't know how to run a hot dog manufacturing business either, but you know the difference between a hot dog that tastes good and one that doesn't taste good.
