What is it with SoxSport and uninformed posts? I don't get it.

I know. He's been a little off the rails lately with his whole prospect crusade. I chalk it up to theres probably a s*** ton of snow where he is and he's got cabin fever :D

The Drew brothers are not the same ballplayer and Steven's situation this year is not what JD's was for the bulk of his Sox career.

The comparisons were going to start regardless. I'm betting some have had lines waiting and have been chomping at the bit for the first time he got injured. It's actually kind of sad.

Uhh yeah, especially since we're talking about a BRAIN INJURY here. Because that's what even the mildest concussion is.

I don't care how macho you are. You screw with the structural integrity of your own brain at your peril.

********. He got hit in the head with a pitch of no fault of his own. It isn't a minor nagging injury, this one can be life-threatening if not handled properly. How about we have someone throw a 95 mph fastball at your head and see what happens?

There is nothing minor about concussion. I think there will be entire generations of players and their families that will end up eternally grateful for the post concussion processes now in place. Wish it were around when I played. I can not remember entirely all of the times I got carted off either a football field or a baseball field with no more follow up than "how many fingers am I holding up".

If nothing else, the extensive nature of the current processes show us a good deal about how damaging and debilitating concussion can be.

What we need to understand is that the Red Sox are a hobby for the owners of this team. It is fun for them to watch, and be a part of, but after Loopy Larry's bad decisions, they are going to be smarter with how the team spends its money whether we like it or not.

It doesn't matter who the player is, in the long term, this could potentially cost the Red Sox 20-30 million for 25 games of one player. As a business owner, it would be silly to spend that kind of money on a guy who will likely provide 1 win over that time.

Loopy Larry pretty well sums that guy up Pal, but as soon as I found out that Boras was Bradley's agent, I said to hell with it. He stays down until April 27th and we take our chances until then. That would give us seven years with him. Still, do we really know for sure if Bradley will adjust to the Majors once he has been brought up, when pitchers start changing speeds, when they let him hit the dirt, when they bring in lefties to try and get him out. Can he hit lefties?

I think Jackie is the real thing but keeping Boras at bay for another year and giving Bradley a little Triple AAA time won't be a tragedy if our pitching can come around, which, BTW, even though it is only ST, they seem to be doing quite well.

It runs in the family with Drew. His brother was always on the DL, and took forever to get in gear. His salary per game played was astronomical.

Don't see Iggy sticking. He needs to build up his bat confidence in AAA. His hitting has been so overplayed in Boston, he's better off building some confidence in Pawtucket. Ciriaco is more likely to get the nod if needed for a few weeks. I wish they would go directly to Bogaerts, but that won't happen, either. Not with this FO.

If Steven didn't have concussion problems I would be on the warpath with those damn Drews, who can't seem to stay in one piece and take forever to get back on the field. However, what Drew has needs to be settled before he gets back into action. Dizzy spells and disorientation is nothing to sneeze at. I hope he recovers as soon as possible, but as Jacko says, this could be two days or two weeks or two months. We just don't know about those things.

It wasn't televised. Not sure if a700 was still there. I think he comes home tomorrow.

From the Globe:

Game report: Red Sox 7, Twins 3

Posted by Peter Abraham, Globe Staff March 14, 2013 07:31 PM

SCORE: Red Sox 7, Twins 3

RECORD: 10-9

BREAKDOWN: The Sox beat up on Twins starter Mike Pelfrey, scoring five runs on six hits and three walks in the first two innings. Mike Napoli had an RBI single in the first inning and Will Middlebrooks a three-run double in the second. Ryan Dempster allowed one run over four innings. Jacoby Ellsbury was 2 for 3 with a double, a walk, and one RBI.

THUMBS UP: Dempster has had a terrific spring. In four starts he has allowed three earned runs over 12.2 innings. The righthander has walked two and struck out nine. Dempster threw 73 pitches. “He used all his pitches. Last time out he pitched primarily with his fastball, which was by design,” manager John Farrell said. “But today he took the whole repertoire to the mound.”

THUMBS DOWN: David Ross was 0 for 2 with a walk and is now 1 for 14 with six strikeouts this spring. Ross has been spending extra time working with the pitchers and said that typically in spring training his bat does not heat up until the final 10 days or so.

MEDICAL REPORT: The Red Sox sent lefthanded reliever Franklin Morales back to Boston to have his sore lower back examined. “He has been undergoing treatment here. He hasn’t really made the progress that we had hoped for. So we had him checked,” Farrell said. Morales has thrown only one inning and seems sure to start the season on the disabled list. … Dustin Pedroia played despite a head cold. He was 0 for 3 with a walk and probably should have stayed in bed.

AROUND THE BASES: Koji Uehara loaded the bases in the fifth inning and worked out of the jam by getting the dangerous Justin Morneau to pop up. The runners were the first he has allowed this spring. “Blame the mound,” he joked. … Closer Joel Hanrahan returned to the team following the birth of his first child in Boston earlier this week. He threw a bullpen session on Thursday and is scheduled to pitch an inning on Saturday. … Jackie Bradley Jr. showed off his arm in the eighth inning. With the bases loaded, he caught a fly ball and made a strong throw to third, nearly catching Jeff Clement, who had bluffed toward home after tagging up.

NEXT GAME: The Red Sox have a split-squad doubleheader on Friday. One team will go to Sarasota to face the Orioles at 1:05 p.m. Clayton Mortensen will start that game. The Sox host the Twins at 7:05 p.m. with Felix Doubront on the mound. That game will be on NESN and WEEI.

-Dempster worked 4IP, 1 ER. Got into a bit of a jam early on but was able to pitch out of it.

-Bard threw an inning. First 2 reached, but then a K, FO, and GO got him out of it.

-In the 8th, the Twins had the bases juiced. Someone flew out to short CF (Bradley). The runner on 3rd bluffed, and Bradley thought he would so he threw behind the runner and nearly picked him off at 3rd.

-Middlebrooks crushed a would be grand slam but the wind kept it in and he hit a bases clearing wall ball double.

That's about all I picked up on. I was in and out of the game at work listening to the Twins broadcast, could well have missed something.

Exactly how many FO's would hand the starting SS job to a 20 year old that has never been above AA?..... .....You know why you can't think of any? Because it's a stupid move. Even the dumb franchises don't try that crap.

All the butt hurt over how the FO is handling the top prospects in the organization from some is bordering on the ridiculousness. This isn't MLB the Show...

Hey, how about Hanley Ramirez? You have a short memory. NL ROY from AA ball. With the Red Sox, AAA. Kalish, career wrecked, injured while sitting in AAA.

That's a dumb-ass comparison. Hanley was 22, not just turned 20, and he had over 140 games of experience at AA. Please please please do your research before spouting such nonsense.

I'm sure Stephen is shaking in his cleats with that threat....

The Rangers are sitting on uber-prospect Profar in AAA this season for the same reasons as Bogaertz/Bradley.

Tampa Bay let Desmond Jennings sit in AAA till June of 2011.

Harper with the Nationals.

Trout with the Angels.

Hosmer with the Royals.

Ackley with the Mariners.

Alonso with the Padres.

Its how things are done.

If JBJ has that kind of arm, then should we be examining him as a possible RF for the second half, if Kalish can't stay healthy and Ellsbury is traded?

I mean NWIH he's in the bigs to break camp, but he's looking like he might be poised to push up quickly once he gets a chance to lay down some consistency in AAA.

Hanley was promoted by the most penny-wise and pound-foolish franchise in baseball. The Marlins are not anyone's model franchise.

It is ridiculous to make any claim of whether Kalish would or would not have gotten hurt at MLB vs AAA.

 You found 1, and that happened to come from one of the worst organizations in sports.

If your worried about him getting hurt in AAA then he shouldn't be playing in meaningless ST games either.

I wouldn't be one of the ones complaining if he was sent down and got hurt in AAA. s*** happens. Deal.

Here’s the deal …

Because Bradley Jr. isn’t on the 40-man roster entering the season (and has never been afforded options), his timetable is different than a player already on the 40-man when it comes to figuring out his free agent clock.

Because of his 40-man status (or lack thereof), Bradley Jr. can reach free agency after the 2018 season if he is on the major league roster prior to April 12 and remains in the big leagues for the next six seasons without going back down to the minor leagues for as many as a collective 20 days. Yet, even if he starts with the big club prior to April 12 and ends up spending the 20 or more days in the minors, free agency eligibility won’t come until after ’19.

If the Red Sox wait until April 12 (or after) to call-up Bradley Jr. then the earliest he will be able to hit free agency is after ’19.

From WEEI - http://fullcount.weei.com/sports/boston/baseball/red-sox/2013/03/14/everything-you-need-to-know-when-trying-to-figure-out-if-jackie-bradley-jr-is-going-to-make-the-red-sox/

If he was called up on 4/12, which means his clock would not be affected, he would miss 3 vs NYY (CC and Pettitte), 3 vs TOR (Romero and Buehrle), and 3 vs BAL (Chen and Gonzalez). So of those 9 games, he would miss 6 vs a LH SP, 3 vs a RH SP.

Call him up on the 12th, the schedule works out in his favor.

I'd call him up in that instance if Ortiz is still out.

Bradley is far better already than either Sweeney or Nava. Screw the clock. He deserves to come North with the team.

Of course you would be with the crowd that would sacrifice a year on control for literally 2 weeks of a season. Anything other then this from you would have been a shock. I don't care if he's the second coming of Babe Ruth. You don sacrifice 162 games for 9.

Anther thing I don't get is why you have been so reluctant over the years to hand prospects starting jobs over a ML serviced player, but now your on the other side of the fence. Is there anything you actually stay true to?

How are they sacrificing games if they can sign him for as long as they want to? The Sox aren't the Sisters of the Poor...

How is blowing away $millions in control for a few weeks of service this year any different from the whacky decisions about FA players that the Red Sox have made and we have criticized them for as regularly as clockwork. Even the low estimates of the cost of having JBJ start the season in Boston runs into the $millions.

Frankly at least for my money, he looks like he could not only use a little seasoning at AAA but could use a year's worth of bulk before facing the rigors of an MLB season. I don't see how the risk/reward adds up. Then again, the Sox have not been the most ardent arbiters of risk/reward.

If that is the rule and it is only 9 games, wait it out to save the year, but tell him not to unpack at Pawtucket. Please stop with smug ******** if you know how to do that.

You know, if brains were dynamite you wouldn't have enough to blow your nose.

Aww, come on sbf. I had brains enough to spell his name correctly. Stephen is so lucky to have a concussion or else he and his retired brother would have to suffer your wrath. I just don't wish that on anyone! Not even the "fragile" Drew brothers. :D

I would be handing him the 4th outfielder/platoon spot, not a full time starting position. If he shits himself, there are 3 other outfielder ahead of him. That is completely consistent with my philosophy regarding prospects. You can never remember my positions or arguments correctly, so you should probably stop trying, and instead, you should concentrate your efforts on your own ideas and thoughts which could use some work.
