I agree SoxSport. The argument that he MUST be ready now is a red herring. That is not the point. The point is whether or not he will be ready at all and when he is, if in fact his Achilles will be resting on a hair trigger. The length of time it has taken him to come back and the amount of dialog that has in hindsight seemed unrealistic.

I am concerned that the length of time it has taken him to come back is an indication of how tender and fragile that Achilles may well be.

Well, Doubront got through 1.2 innings in his first outing today. Buchholz has survived his first outing. Overall the starting pitchers have been doing reasonably well so far.

Cuts: Red Sox trim roster .

By Michael Silverman / Boston Herald

FORT MYERS -- The Red Sox' clubhouse is going to start feeling a little roomier as the club starts moving players out in order to get them more playing time in minor-league games. The club optioned left-handed pitcher Drake Britton to Double-A Portland, and re-assigned infielder/outfielder Justin Henry and shortstop Deven Marrero to minor league camp.

The Red Sox are now left 57 players in big-league camp.

.

I will be in Ft. Myers tomorrow. I am looking forward to seeing Bradley.

The Red Sox are playing Tampa Bay right now... but NESN is showing a repeat of the Yankee game from yesterday. Can we talk about how dumb this is?

Also, Stephen Drew is perhaps the most bland interview I've ever seen.

It's pretty funny how t h e Boston media starts every Stephen Drew bit by declaring how much livelier he is compared to JD. From t he interviews I've seen he wins by a hair.

Optimistically, it sounds like Papi's recent soreness could simply be something similar to what WMB felt last week.

From Rob Bradford:

There were some initial concerns after Ortiz postponed his scheduled baserunning exercises Sunday due to soreness. But the designated hitter was told by the team’s medical staff that the discomfort was natural, and part of the recovery process.

“To be honest with you, I did it all today and nothing gave me a hard time, which is fine,” he said. “Dan [Dyrek], our therapist, he tells me the soreness I’m getting is from things that are starting to break down, things that weren’t functioning because I wasn’t running for like six months. It’s like when you go to the gym the first time, the next day you’re going to be sore all over the place because you haven’t been working out, so that’s pretty much what happens to injuries in your shoulders, arms, knees. Once you start functioning and do all the activities you’re supposed to, you’re definitely going to get sore and you have to get used to it. Hopefully, that’s the case. I think I ran today better than I normally do.”

I haven't seen any of his interviews. Is he as bad as his brother?

Have a terrific time down in Fort Myers Ted. Of course, be certain to keep abreast of the two soap operas taking place down there.....As The World Turns On Ortiz' Achillies Tendon, and The Adventures of Daniel Bard's "Comeback". Looks to me that Cherington's mindless two year contract he gave Papi might be another case of a brain misplaced. It is appearing that he might not be ready to start the season and is one step away from having his whole Achilles and his career explode on him and our team.

As for Bard, I get the impression the front office wants him to succeed in his "comeback" but I have always believed his collapse last season was the beginning of the end for him. We'll see. Have a great time.:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

He's about the same. Laid back, not going to say anything controversial, so therefore makes a boring interview. I don't think it should be a knock on the guy.

Why did Britton get sent down?

@GordonEdes: Sox p Drake Britton was arrested on reckless driving, DUI and property damage charges. Arrest report says he was driving 111 mph in 45 zone

Is it just me, or do the Red Sox seem to draft more idiots than other teams? First Brentz shoots himself in the foot, and now this. Well done gentlemen.

I just read about that in the Globe. Young and not smart. He was trying to elude the police as well. Nice.....

Cut him. DWUI is bad enough..... but then running from the cops and refusing a breath test tells me he is not a take responsibility type. Here in WY they changed the law last year and people no longer have the right to refuse a test when they are arrested for DWUI.

Probably not really. We just hear about these guys from our team. I doubt this is more than a footnote nationally, no non-Sox fan really cares about Britton. There's probably a story like this every few years on every team.

Yeah. I agree. Cut this kid before he kills someone.

Hey, Clay Buchholz was arrested for stealing computers at one time. As President Lincoln said when told General Grant was an alcoholic, "Find out what he drinks and give a case to each of my generals."

Drake Britton is like the Ambrose Burnside of Civil War generals.

Tell us more about your post. I know the guy was responsible for the term sideburns, but was he a bad baseball player?

Abner Doubleday always picked him last, so I'd assume so.

As bad as Burnside was rj, he at least tried to fight. Of course, we all remember the slaughter his army suffered at Fredericksburg in Dec. of 1862, but when he was sent out west to fight on that front he did win a big battle and captured the East Tennessee city of Knoxville in the fall of 1863, then beat General Longstreet when the traitorous general tried to recapture the city. If Britton is like any union g eneral it was George Brinton McClellan who always had an excuse for not fighting, then when he did usually came up with a bad case of the shorts.

Good to see some Civil War stuff thrown in here. I am a big CW buff myself.

• Ryan Lavarnway was 3 for 3 with two doubles and threw out two runners stealing. He got Mike Aviles at third base and Will Middlebrooks looked to be talking some trash after he slapped the tag down.
