I understand, I just meant that when he's added to the bullpen list we really have the potential (keyword) to have a dominant bullpen. Both in terms of quantity and quality.

True, but I doubt this group will be fully together at the same time really at any point in the season. Someone will always be injured, I suspect.

Am I the only one who is well beyond shocked that Doubront hasn't been DL'd yet??

If Webster doesn't start tomorrow I may lose it.

Nevermind (!!!!!!!)

@alexspeier: Webster will get a start - not tonight (Dempster). Guessing it would be Wed, w/Doubront getting an extra day if not needed in pen tonight

Like this move.

SFF must be happy. :)

The part in bold above about the Sox having shutdown arms in the pen when those guys return should have been stated conditionally with regard to health issues. You stated it as a certainty. To which, I appropriately responded "duh", then you backed off the certainty and added the condition turning the "when'" they return into an "If" they return-- to which I responded asking you to make up your mind. Are you saying "when" or "if". You really are off your game today. And you had set the bar so low for yourself.;)

Well our bullpen seems to be in crisis mode at this point Ted. We have two "closers" on the shelf, one who can't stay out of the infirmary, the other out of the kitchen. My take is to roll the dice and bring up Alan Webster for the rotation and and make Doubrant the long man in the bullpen who can eat up innings so as to save our decent bullpenners from wearing out. We could also bring Aceves back up for similar duty but it is becoming clear the Red Sox want him gone if they haven't decided to bring him up after those two injuries.

I think the plan is for Doubront to go to the pen. If Webster has a good start tomorrow he will get another one. The Sox bullpen depth will be tested the next few weeks.

For someone who claims to be very smart, your reading comprehension is not very good. Let's leave it at that.

The ALE is no longer the premier division in the AL. It wasn't last year, and I don't think it will be this year either. I don't have the stats, but the ALW got the better of the East last season. I expect that will continue. I think the Central will hold its own against the East this year too.

What are you going to do after the third or fourth blown save when you reach the text size limit?

I already did :(

I find it completely hilarious that your "analysis" of you're rotation has it's a top 3-5 rotation in the AL. Lol. You brought in a career NLer at an advanced age, who'll give you IP, but whose production isn't expected to be much better than the departed Beckett. And you're returning the worst SP in Red Sox history coming off TJS. Barring finding a patch of 4 leaf clovers, your rotation is set for a debacle in 2013.

I know that YOTN hates it when people do this, but I'm doing it. Jackso, after all the s*** he gave me for thinking the Red Sox rotation could be a top 5 rotation if everything broke right, deserves to eat crow.

Red Sox rotation: 3.80 Overall ERA, 2nd in AL.

It is homerism when every single stat you throw out there is trying to justify the actual performance that went out on the field. It is also homerism when you expect a guy like John Lackey to be your savior in the rotation when he's a year removed from major arm surgery and prior to that was the worst pitcher in Red Sox history. It is also homerism to consider that Dempster will give you above average performance on top of his capability to eat innings. I doubt the sox suck to the degree that they sucked last yr, that much I agree with. But expecting them to drop an entire run in ERA is a little much. I think their starters ERA ends up in the 4.6 range, which still has them in the back third of the division, especially since the AL starters just got a boost with Toronto gaining significant talent, the Yankees having Pettitte and Phelps up for a full yr and with the Royals gaining James Shields.

Lol.

LOL, wow. You cannot think of 5 teams in the AL that are better? You dont think the Yankees are better? WTF planet are you on man?

Red Sox rotation: 3.80 ERA. Yankees rotation: 4.12 ERA.

I'm stating the truth. Mariano, Joba, Jeter, Gardner and Pettitte are healthy and will be healthy headed into the yr. We retained Ichiro and Kuroda. We have a kid who can replicate Martin's defense.

Lol.

This again. I see. I want to entertain a sig bet, one that lasts a month and the sig will politely read either jacksonianmarch's bitch or SoxFanForsyth's bitch. My bet is that the Yankees finish with a better win % than the sox, yours is the opposite. Put your sig where your mouth is my friend!

Hey Jackso. You have about 5 weeks left until your 1 month sig bet takes effect.

Yes, they have subtracted. They have also improved in some areas that you are conveniently leaving out.

#1- their SP was very good last yr and that was with CC struggling with bone chips in the elbow and Pettitte only making 12 starts (freak ankle injury and started the season late). They also saw a big step forward for Phil Hughes, who put up better numbers than the annointed one (Buchholz) but is somehow expected to involute into a firebomb and die. (Hughes 5.07 ERA) We also saw David Phelps emerge as a true big league rotation candidate. (Phelps 4.93 ERA)We saw Ivan Nova take 1 step forward in learning how to set up and put away hitters, and 2 steps back in that he threw less strikes and gave up more HRs. Yes, their SP are a year older, that being said, our geriatric club started 45 games last yr. I say that it is highly, highly likely we see them start more than that. Add in a second yr for Phelps, a contract yr for Hughes, and a fully healthy season from CC and I dont think it is even close in terms of SP.

#2- their RP was very good last yr, and we lose Soriano but gain a healthy Mariano. Say what you want about Rivera, he was heading for another standard Mo season last yr before he blew out his knee. His arm should be fine. Throw in a healthy yr from Joba, who finally started looking like his old self towards the end of the yr as well as a healthy yr from Aardsma (I can't stop laughing), another full yr from Robertson and Logan and the cadre of pen arms behind him, the Yankee pen will be formidable again. The biggest reason why their pen will be formidable is the fact that they will get a ton of innings out of their SP. Last yr, only Seattle and the Bombers had their starters eclipse 1000IP. With a full yr of Pettitte on the horizon, that looks more likely than not.

#3- the offense will take a small step back without Swisher. We brought in Ichiro which won't completely offset the offensive loss, but defensively and speed wise, we upgrade significantly. And for those who forgot, we will have a healthy Brett Gardner back in the lineup. You know, the guy who had 10.7WAR from 10-11 but missed all but 16 games in 2012. Youkilis should be able to replace the ARod we had last yr. Obviously, he cannot replace the ARod during his prime, but last yr's ARod had an OPS of .782. Once Youk got out of the poisonous Boston environment, he put up an OPS of .771. (This next part, oh, this is the gold of the whole post. This is my favorite) Jeter is coming off ankle surgery, which is a concern. It'd be even more of a concern if he was still limited. Well, he isnt. The guy is back on the field performing his normal baseball activities. While I doubt he can sustain a .300+AVG, he should be good enough for above average production for the entire yr, as usual. We should also see improvements from Granderson. You brought up Martin, but he was a terrible hitter for most of the yr. He had some power and walked a good amount, but his OPS was barely over .700 and it was driven almost entirely by his HRs. We can replace the defense with Romine, and we shouldnt see too much of a slide offensively since there wasnt far to go in a downward trajectory. Overall, I expect the offense to put up 800+ runs like it always does (637 runs for Yankees going into tonight's games). I think the sox offense will be in that vicinity too, although they're not nearly as complete as you think they are.

Overall, our pen can keep up with yours because they wont be overworked and have the personnel to go head to head, our offense should be a tick better than yours, and our starters are head, shoulders, knees and toes better. It aint close

Brilliant.

It's funny, but don't do too much celebrating. Everyone on here has made good and bad predictions. Enjoy the sig bet win and move on. I remember a certain poster saying RDR would be the Sox #3 starter. That clearly didn't happen.

LOL this is brilliant :D

Props to Jacko for taking the shots and honoring the bet.

I gotta go look at some stats but I think I may have gotten a few right. Totally whiffed on the BP predictions haha

This is the demise of Jacko I don't think he can show his face here anymore

No Kapsis, he can show his face and try to stand tall and face the music. He knows he's going to have to eat a ton of s*** after posting those ridiculous comedowns for our pitching staff and our team. I can see how he thought it would be near impossible for the Red Sox to make the recovery it did because many of us were shocked that we turned out so good, but he is going to have to live with it this winter. What is worse from his perspective is that his club is facing a ton of turd falling on them the next few years. Their stalwarts are decaying from age, injuries and drugs, their farm system is barf warmed over and there is a chance that their very good manager is going to be headed elsewhere (Chicago anyone?). If they fail to resign Cano they could find themselves in the sewer. One thing he has to know and that is the Yankees will not pull what the Red Sox did this year next year, and I'm sure he realizes that. Jacko, however, has always impressed me as a class act and he will take his shots and be a better man for it.
