It all started early. The A's, Marlins and DBacks worked a 3 way trade today.

Marlins get infield prospect Yordy Cabrera

A's get OF Chris Young

DBacks get Cliff Pennington, Heath Bell and $8 mil from the Marlins

The Mets and Jason Bay have agreed to part ways, the team announced. Terms of the agreement were undisclosed.

Says Texas max offer to Hamilton is 3 years. I'm not sure if this is surprising or not consider I have read articles expecting 6-7 years. Maybe Texas is trying to get it down to 5 years in the end. Either that or this signals that there is no chance Hamilton is going back to Texas.

One thing we all have to consider is no one knows Hamilton better then Texas. Their 3 year max offer is going to be a big red flags for intelligent GM's. If Texas is willing to make this kind of line in the sand with no current replacement for Hamilton on the Roster(or so most of us assume) is a bold move by Texas's FO.

Dodgers won the bidding for Hyun-Jin Ryu. Seems a lot of money for a guy who will probably end up being eighth inning guy. Why do I get the feeling Hamilton and Greinke will both end up on the Dodgers this year?

Both? That's close to impossible.

If the team has no budget, which to this point they have not shown one then it's not impossible. Improbable? Maybe. Money makes a lot of things possible and they look like they are spending like drunken sailors. Hamilton at 5-6 years at 20-25M could easily get it done if teams get weary of not going more the 4 years(which is possible). Ethier and his contract would most certainly be shipped out at this point. Then a offer to Grienke of 6-7 years at 20M per is a reasonable offer that might land him.

When I look at the Dodgers I consider their spending power and willingness to throw it around similar or on par with the early 00's Yankee teams. And none of us would have put it past them to sign both of these players. They have gone from Red Sox West to Yankees West :D

25M for a guy that might start? lol This could be Igawa like fail.

edit: btw I'm not jumping all over what you said, I used your post as a platform to talk about how I feel about the Dodgers right now :)

I am betting that the Yankees get Hamilton. They are letting Swisher walk. The LFer Gardner is a low cost guy. I think they will add the marquee slugger who should hit 50 HRs in that band box.

I hope they do and give him that 7/175M, they'll regret it in a couple of years.

If it works for them for 3 years, we get to suffer for 3 years, and by that time other high price players will come off the Yankee payroll and they will reload. I never hope that the Yankees get a player like Hamilton.

I'm fairly confident some team will offer him at least 5 years. The Yankees with all their issues are pretty far down my list of possible destinations for Hamilton. But anything is possibly I guess.

a700, I doubt the Yankees get Hamilton. The edict from above has been to get uner $189 by 2014, and in doing so, you will be seeing some more 1 yr deals and more of an influx of kids from the minors. The Yanks have to get younger, they need to stop filling their needs by signing guys to 7-10 yr deal when their utility will only be the next 3-4yrs. Also, the Yankees are entering salary cap hell. Tex has 4 yrs left, ARod has 5, CC has 5. Thats $75 mil tied up right there for 3 players. Then consider that Cano is definitely getting re-signed and you probably have a case where 4 players will be making $100 mil annually

R.A. Dickey won the Cy Young award. Just wow.

Not shocking .

He and Kershaw pretty much had the same stat line , however he won 20 games versus

14 for Kershaw .

Braves To Sign B.J. Upton

By Ben Nicholson-Smith [November 28 at 4:11pm CST]

The Braves have agreed to sign free agent center fielder B.J. Upton, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports (on Twitter). Reynolds Sports Management represents Upton, whose deal is pending a physical.

The 28-year-old ranked fifth on MLBTR’s list of the offseason’s top 50 free agents. In 633 plate appearances for the Rays this past season, Upton hit 28 home runs and posted a .246/.298/.454 batting line. The right-handed hitter would add balance to the Braves' lefty-heavy lineup.

Upton declined a qualifying offer from the Rays, which means the Rays are now eligible to obtain a top pick in the 2013 draft. The Braves will surrender their first round draft pick to sign Upton, though that selection won't go directly to Tampa Bay.

ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick first reported the sides were in serious talks and Mark Bowman of MLB.com first reported they were nearing a deal.

I'm surprised he signed before Hamilton. But Atlanta put the full court press on here. It's basically a JD Drew contract. Upton offers power and the RH bat Atlanta desperately needed. If he can manage 3-4 WAR a year he will be worth 15M a season.

Interesting to see the Braves make the Upton move. Obviously they needed a CF, but after reading the Fangraphs article about team local TV contracts, the Braves were depicted as one of the teams with the least friendly local TV deals. I figured they might be a bit priced out compared to the other teams, even with the boost in national TV revenue.

Nonetheless, glad to see Upton out of the AL east. Despite not ever becoming the player with all of the promise he had as a rookie, he always seemed to have his good games against the Sox- particularly in the 2008 ALCS.

Very glad Ben stayed away from Upton and Broxton today. Both crazy overpaid contracts.

There's a discernible trend toward those this offseason. Thin market and teams flush with cash.

Good grief I didn't realize Upton's OBP was so pathetic. But he does give a 3-4 War usually per year, and that's valued in the 15M range. SO I guess from that stand point it's not a huge overpay if he can retain that production for the duration. He will only the be 33 at the end of the deal.

What is more pathetic is how much dog he has in him. The guy has never played hard.

Especially since he has played his entire career on a team with no offensive talent who simply win games because they play hard.

I thought Longo was going to kick his ass in the dugout a couple of years back. He would have broken him in half.

lol Ya he's not known as the ultimate hustle guy. I think playing for a franchise like Atlanta will help that. So I wouldn't totally close the book on him. He's a decent chance to break out with the change of scenary.

In the end he's a good fit in Atlanta.
