You can't be serious  If the Sox had tried to acquire saome teams top prospect for Wakefield at his peak(I believe he had a couple seasons he got Cy Young votes) you would have laughed everyone out of the room.

The Mets are not getting anyones top prospect. They were probably trying to judge how hard the team laughed at them to see how far down the line they should start :D

Most years I was hoping that Wakefield would get hit by a bus, just enough to prevent him from taking the mound. I never would have expected to get a big prospect for him.

Dickey 2012- 233.2IP 192H 71ER 230K 54BB 2.73ERA 1.05WHIP 4.3K/BB 8.9K/9IP. Those numbers are insane

Exactly. They probably aren't getting better then that production. So now there is little upside to Dickey. At best your hoping he continues production at his current rate. And your not even considering the headache of having to sign him to an extension. Which if you were trading a top prospect you would have to do.

SFF expresses himself much better. Work on your communication skills.;)

Fair enough. Speaking Dutch all the time is eroding my English conversation skills :D

No No No and No to RA Dickey.

I would buy a John Lackey jersey to make them stay away from Dickey...seriously..

Side note:

Past 2 seasons:

Player A: .275/.379/.552/.931, 54 HR

Player B: .319/.377/.505/.882, 45 HR

It's probably obvious, but Player A is Napoli, Player B is Adrian Gonzalez.

And Napoli's numbers should only get better, moving to 1B (more games played) and playing 1/2 of his games at Fenway.

good work today by ben. I am really intrigued by Shaun Marcum since he is accustomed to playing in the AL East with the Blue Jays awhile back. Just a thought but if the Sox do not offer Bay a minor league contract I think the Blue Jays would make sense due to his Canadian roots and he would be a low risk high reward type sign.

Consensus says people that read MLB Trade Rumors have a household income of 75k or above

If a bear shits in the woods do the trees make a sound eating it?

I already started an argument and proved it . 5 years for Hamilton is a long term contract and you all agree thats what you want. Before that you were all saying we need short term deals like you worked for the front office. Dumbasses. Owner's are screwing the Red Sox fan's because they need to make money and can't compete with London soccer fans and Boston baseball so they play you guys like school girls. When they have money out the ass and they won't fix the Starting Rotation.

Looks like Soria to the Rangers for 2 years. Might miss some of next season but should be full strength to take over for Nathan by year 2.

While Gonzalez plays 81 games in the cavern of Dodger Stadium.

A long term deal is 6-8 years.

5 years is a comfortable contract for Hamilton. A 5 year/125 deal would be a solid deal. 6 years is a no go.

Somewhere in your incoherent rants, you missed that.

Could potentially set the market for Brian Wilson. Similar situations.

Yankees looking at Youkilis, Ross, and prob will sign Hamilton.... suck on those grizzly ballz

You should read MLB Trade Rumors. Unfortunately your $28k income prohibits you from it.

The Yanks are getting under the $189mm threshold.

Having ARod (27.5mm) + Tex (22.5mm) + Hamilton ($25mm) + Sabathia (24.4mm) + Cano ($25mm) all locked up to long term deals isn't exactly cohesive to that plan, now, is it?

$124.4mm locked up to 5 players? Uh. No.

Half a decade is a short period of time to asses talent. Good one! Illetriate son of a bitch!

It hasn't stopped them before. That's 2014 not 2013. They still can trade one of them and eat some salary. Jeter might be gone by 2014. Swisher is gone.

It's illiterate, not "illetriate."

Wilson might struggle to get the 2nd year or that high of an AAV because I believe he is older. But it may not be far from that. I'd be ok with Wilson on a 1-2 year deal at 6-8M a year.

Your posts almost always make sense. The only faulty ones are the ones where you tell me that I am wrong.;) jk, you have persuaded me to your point of view many times.

Ted---I could be way off the mark but I think I finally have zeroed in on what the Red Sox are going to do. With Napoli's signing (1B--reserve catcher, etc), they are going hard after Hamilton for the outfield, will make that trade with the White Sox for Floyd, and then use some moderate cash to sign Dan Haren. That would conclude their major winter shopping and with only some work on the edges from now until ST.

Is it possible I might be on the right track? It sure looks that way to me right now.

With Mike Napoli having agreed to a three-year deal, what's next for the Boston Red Sox?

As ESPN.com's Jayson Stark tweets, the Napoli signing takes Boston out of the running for Adam LaRoche, as Napoli is expected to handle primarily first base. However, the Sox still need an outfielder, and Stark mentions that Shane Victorino, Cody Ross and Nick Swisher are on the club's radar.

Napoli actually gives Boston a little bit more flexibility, since he can play catcher as well as first, so it might be an intriguing idea for the Sox to go after Swisher, a switch-hitter who plays outfield as well as first base, or Victorino, who also hits from both sides, and create a mix-and-match lineup that involves exploiting platoon advantages between catcher, first base and outfield.

New manager John Farrell has shown a knack for picking up on strategies like this -- he became one of the biggest proponents of employing defensive shifts while managing the Toronto Blue Jays -- so one would think he could put such a scenario to good use.
