Yup. I have a feeling the Yanks and Rays are going to regret not putting the Sox away while they could.

And you're so obsessed with Abreu :harhar:

 That's one move that really pissed me off, because he was exactly what the Yankees needed and we needed. They got him from under our noses and the Yankees took off.

Negative glee? I don't think anyone has that except maybe jacko' date=' but he is a Yankee fan. You can't talk. When things get tough, you take off a lot.[/quote']

I take off because the people on this site piss me off. It has nothing to do with the team. And I come right back after I cool down for a bit. You're not going to find a bigger optimist than me.

I don't even know how to respond to this. It's almost as if you just spotted the word "fortunate" and assume I was saying they are an overall fortunate team, specifically health wise.

Dear Lord. Please read my comments. I said they are fortunate that the AL is down, i.e. nobody is pulling away and started on a tear and started something crazy like 35-15 or something.

And avoid the opportunity to be argumentative?

You need to be hear in good times and bad. Learn to roll with it. When the team is s***ing on itself, people are not going to be happy.

I can deal with hard times. I was here last year. I stuck around during our struggles this year but I have no interest in hanging around this site when the only thing happening is irrational skewering of the team. It's just frustrating and annoying and I have a tendency to say to hell with it.

The Rays and the Orioles square off this weekend, while the Sox play the Jays.

If the Sox can take 2/3 from the Jays, they can pick up a game or two on the Rays/O's.

It's easiest to out-debate emotion.

Its majors-wide. Just take a look at any fantasy team roster' date=' everyone is in rough shape. The Cardinals, Phillies, Yankees, Red Sox and Angels are all very beat up. The bullpens are the worst though, all the best relievers have gotten hurt this year.[/quote']

At one point the Red Sox had 7 outfielders from their depth chart unavailable at the same time. Seven! That's absurd.

They've already lost over 550 games of production from their roster this year and have used 50 players. In 2010, the year of the plague, the team lost 767 games of production on the entire year while using 50 players.

So this year's team has already used as many players as the team did in 2010 and is on pace to blow by the amount of games lost.

Props to mabrowndog at sosh for pointing out the data recently and sibpin for compiling it originally.

What are the pitching matchups for the jays? We have the bottom 3 going but what about them?

We need Pedroia back. They can't go too long without him. A month without him in addition to all the other missing guys could be crippling. He's the heart of the team.

I should have qualified my last post. The AAA teams masquerading as ML teams are going to take the brunt of the damage from the number of better teams we have in ML this year. I still think some of those teams are going to end up with records that are going to be truly appalling but nobody is going to put away any of the mid-level and better teams until much later in the year if at all.

As for AL East nobody is likely to be put away. As for AL in general, Royals, Twins, Guardians, Seatlle maybe, Oakland maybe gets put away early. Everybody else will be up and down but none are likely to be put away. Been sayin' it for months now and nothing I have seen so far tells me it is any different.

That's makes no sense.

50 games * 9 players per game = 450 total games.

You can't say "We lose 7 games per day for each OF" because not all 7 of them would be playing.

Hearing he's going to try to swing on the off day on Monday and go from there. So probably no Pedroia until Tuesday unfortunately.

I'll be ecstatic if he is back on Tuesday.

The problem I see this year is... What on earth does this team go for? Who is the Abreu out there? I know people are pessimistic about Dice-k, but atleast he can survive in the AL East-- you won't be able to say that about half the pitchers available.

And the bullpen? After a rough start, its been phenomenal. Replace Morales with Bailey, and all of that bullpen has been very good lately. Melancon, Mortensen, and Tazawa are lighting up AAA-- maybe one or two of them could be trade bait?

They need an outfielder, but Ellsbury, Crawford, Ross, and Kalish are coming back. Any one of those guys could easily be better than any outfielder available.

Shoppach and Salty are averaging a .920 OPS between them-- although I'm still convinced that Salty needs to go.

Bro, what i'm saying is that compared to the rest of the AL which is supposed to be down, the Red Sox still look awful injury-wise. You're the one who needs to keep the post in context.

I think they can live without Pedey for a bit if they can find a way to keep WMB here that does not force Agons to the outfield. If they can do that, they should at least try to get Pedey to where he is not just aggravating it every couple of days, where he seems to be now.

Plus I don't understand what V was talking about. He hurt it hitting, then really hurt it again playing in the field. So how can V say they are not worried about it playing in the field...playing in the field is what finally put Pedey on the bench.

Yeah they're worse off injury, but nobody was talking about injuries. I was saying that they started so slow, they're lucky nobody has taken off and dusted them to 8 back in the division and 6 back in the 2nd WC.

Maybe he'll have a luggage accident like Lucroy had.

Wouldn't matter, I hear his luggage is even lighter than his hitting.

I've been thinking about the same thing. I would have loved to have landed Oswalt and put Bard back in the pen, but with Bard off the market, I am not sure what they should go after. I guess they need to wait for it to shake out some more.

Anybody got any thoughts about Valentine leaning a wee bit too hard on Aceves' rubber arm? That's 4 days in a row. You don't see that much anymore. I checked his game logs from last year and he did pitch 4 in a row once, but it was Sept 25-28.

This. He's a big part of the pitching staff's problem.

Would they have started so slow had they been healthy? Specifically, Bailey and Andrew Miller?

Injuries were the main reason the team lasted so long to hit its stride, and it's still honestly relying on a lot of pixie dust to survive.

His arm will be a noodle by the All Star break at this rate.
