Agons used to be first pitch swinging at anything on the outer half at just below the belt line because he was so focused on going the other way. Now it looks like he is first pitch swinging at anything that does not look like a breaking ball. He is missing breaking balls by a mile and I think he now figures he is meat if he lets pitchers get to the point where they can throw him a breaking ball. He is right in that regard. He is meat on breaking balls. Problem is he can't hit FB either.

Even if he turns it around at this point he is now batting at a less than .270 average and does not look like he is going to go on some monster run of good at bats. It is now looking like he will do well to come back to mediocre....with no power as opposed to piss poor....with no power.

I'm hoping he snaps out of it, like David did when he was slumping a couple of years ago.

Lin and Podsednik' date=' of all the players in the world, won this game for us.[/quote']

And Nava and Shoppach, to raise the "what the heck did I just see" factor even further.

Way to go Sox....really happy for the guys that are not supposed to contribute at the level they are contributing at...for most part, great examples of smart unselfish baseball...as for the big money chumps....

i am dumbfounded by how Bard pitched tonight with walks and tater pitches and walked out with a win.. but as BTR says a win is a win is a win ;)

Yeah, and once his power comes back, he will start getting more walks when they pitch around him, his OBP goes up, suddenly he's a .900 OPS hitter again.

This is just the ups and downs of baseball bro. Salty is like, pretty much our best hitter right now in terms of OPS, if not THE best on the team, too lazy to check my stats. That's not going to last.

:D i sure hope we get something from Agon this year.. that lineup with his bat is lethal and he is the weak link right now. really hoping he turns it around. is June his favorite month... well i sure hope it is cuz he sucked in May.

Win - worst way to tell the performance of a pitcher

I know, I'm just kidding.

It's not the worst way, though. On average, a winning performance has got to be better than a losing performance. But there's a whole lot of wiggle room for a good performance to get a loss and a bad one to get a win (see Buchholz, Clay, for examples of both situations).

I just think it's funny that he pitched as bizarrely as he did and got a W out of it.

Now that we're .500, I guess I should put my life's savings on the Rays for Friday, right?

You could also look up Lackey, John if you needed more evidence.

Looks like a soft bottom 3 in the lineup' date=' but it seems like we often score a lot of runs in that situation, somehow.[/quote']

That soft bottom 3 all went deep

And after all the s*** this team has been through with injuries and piss poor play, we're still only 1 game out of the WC in the L column.

The 2nd place team in both the AL West and AL Central are at or below .500. The Sox are 4 back in the L column from the Rays right now, with a 3 game set against them this weekend.

This team could very well be within striking distance by the time reinforcements come along if they can just continue to grind out wins.
