Not only is Bard not a SP (period. Case settled) but unless they return him to the pen soon he will be nothing. Its too bad our FO is too stupid to see that, because Bard could have been a very effective RP for years.

Bard's fastball has dropped from averaging 97.9 in 2010, 97.3 in 2011, to 93.3 in 2012.

 

His velocity is no longer good enough to get away with pitches that catch too much of the plate. Plus, his slider isn't as effective because people don't have to have 98 cheese in the back of their mind. He doesn't have the control to be a SP, plain and simple.

 

He needs to go back to the bullpen where he can post an ERA in the 2's and contribute to 70-75 games a year. I know people always say "180 innings is more important than 75 innings". Well. I think shutting the door on 65 close games is more important than 180 mediocre innings over 32 games.
