HE came in wanting to save his presious arm for a long & storied career. Despite what was implied at the press briefing. I think HE chose to notch it down to 92????
You might be right about this. His long storied career has started out as a horror story.

I think he might get one more start if they can make a significant adjustment in his side session. Otherwise, it's back to the pen. I don't think they will phantom DL him. If they bring up Germano or Dice K, they will have to cut someone. For those who insist that hje will be DL'd so no one will get cut, Bard will be back off the DL by the beginning of July. At that point someone has to get released. I am not sure who that should be. Apparently, no else does either.

How was the performance against Detroit a step backward? The consensus here was that it was a step forward.

Take a look at the stats. He only went 5 innings if I recall

I was going to say Scott Atchinson' date=' but then I saw he has a .86 ERA. How?[/quote']

He has always been an effective reliever for the Sox. People don't like him because he looks old and pudgy. I've always seen his use. He's pitching great now, but will have a 3 ERA by year's end. Still too good to just throw away.

Look at baseballreference.com to see the rest of his stats. They are amazing. He is not only pitching exceptionally well, but is pitching a lot of innings. This pace cannot be maintained for him, either in quality nor quantity, but its a great horse to ride while it lasts.

Well Morales might get a few more chances to distinguish himself before they have to make a decision but it should be one of the left handers...they have three all with about the same function on the staff. Morales would have to go a long way, like have more outings like the one he just had to make up ground and be one of the retained LH RP. I suppose it is possible but I would not bank on it.

Even the last and best performance by Morales was certainly not pressure packed. Bard had screwed up badly enough to remove any pressure from Morales coming in after Bard.

The past two seasons, most posters left him off their 25 man roster for pitchers like Dennys Reyes. Laughable.

Yes and no. Morales gave the Sox a chance to come back but the bats were in the deep freeze for the day. 4.1 scoreless is pretty good against the Jays.

You are taking my post out of context. Here is what I posted: "His performance against Det & Bal were actually worse than his perfrormance against Cle and Philly. So in a matter of speaking Bard has been going backwards over the past 5 starts. " Against Det, Bard didn't get out of the 5th. He was behind on virtually every batter and hit a batter.

One could argue that his best performances were in April agianst the White Sox and his first start against the Rays and he has gone steadily downhill since.

We have a lot of good quality relief pitchers. It's amazing that Melancon hasn't made it back from AAA yet.

Mortensen and Tazawa are also at Pawtucket. Between them they have surrendered one run in 15.2 innings in the majors this year. We do not need three LHRP, and Morales, while semifunctional still (and as such could fetch a decent return in a trade), is the worst of the three.

??? Bard pitched 5.1 against Detroit. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that is 'out of the 5th' and 'into the 6th'.

Daniel Bard to AAA. #RedSox

Thank God. Go down there and throw every other day. Then come back as your old self.

We had 2 experiments going into the season. We got a bad one to be replaced by an experienced starter (DiceK), and an excellent one in Doubront. 1 out of 2 is pretty damn good.

Who is "we"?

I am fully expecting Bard to continue to be in the rotation for a long time. Thats the way our FO operates. Bard is going nowhere any time soon.

:lol::lol::lol:

I am surprised that he had options left. I had been reading that he had no options. It will be interesting to see the corresponding move.

He has options, but has to get by waivers. So I guess there is a handshake agreement with GMs not to claim optional waivers.

I'll ask you the same thing that I asked MVP. If you bring up a guy from the farm to take Bard's starts' date=' which pitcher do you send down to the minors or cut?[/quote']

I guess the answer is Bard! :)

Now....... Who's coming up????

Could you dumb this down for me? Explain how options are relevant here? I've made no secret that I am relatively a new baseball fan. Lol.

Sox send Daniel Bard to Triple-A Pawtucket

Scott Lauber reports that Daniel Bard has been sent to Triple-A Pawtucket. The Red Sox have activated outfielder Darnell McDonald from the disabled list. More to come.

Yuk!!

Bard has all three of his minor-league options remaining because he hasn't been in the minor leagues since the Red Sox placed him on the 40-man roster. But because more than three years have elapsed since Bard made his major-league debut, he would have to clear Optional Assignment Waivers.

If I am not mistaken, the way the Optional Assignment Waiver works, if he were claimed the Sox could revoke the option and could continue to use the optional assignment waiver through the current waiver period which started on the 31st day of the 2012 season and ends in August as I recall.

It is generally understood by general managers that a player on optional assignment waivers will not be claimed by another team. Bard might be attractive enough to prompt another team to break the gentleman's agreement.

However, the Sox can simply revoke the waiver if Bard were claimed which is why ML league teams don't break the gentlemen's agreement not to claim a player from Optional Assignment Waivers. It is a waste of time since the team can continue to use the Optional Assignment Waiver on the same player through the current waiver period. It just becomes a big circle jerk for the team trying to claim the player. Also if a player is claimed and his team does not revoke the waiver, the claiming team has to pay the player's entire salary.
