Peering into the Pitching Garbage Pail with your Pal, Pal

This is something I've mentioned a few times previously. I would be kind of interested to see the Red Sox sign a handful more garbage pitchers. There are a good number of low-risk guys out there. Brandon Web' date=' Jon Garland, Scott Kazmir, Rich Harden and Javier Vazquez have a very good chance of being complete garbage in 2012, but on a 500k deal, what do they have to lose at this point?[/quote']

I've always been intrigued by Harden. Saw him pitch in Chicago on a Sports Travel Tour in 2008. I've always like his stuff. Since we most likely will not be getting Oswalt, maybe a Harden and Padilla could be our answer to Garcia and Colon this year. Well some of you want to feel good, have at it.

The trick is to sign these guys to non-guaranteed minor league contracts. But many of them are still shooting for guaranteed major league contracts.

Rich Harden To Miss 2012 Season

By Ben Nicholson-Smith [February 9 at 7:27am CST]

Rich Harden will miss the 2012 season while he recovers from an arm operation, Peter Gammons of MLB Network reports on Twitter.*Harden had surgery last week to repair a torn capsule and aims to come back healthy in 2013.

The free agent right-hander started 15 games for the 2011 Athletics, but he's no stranger to serious injuries, having spent much of the 2006 and 2007 seasons on the disabled list.*Harden, 30, posted a 5.12 ERA with 9.9 K/9 and 3.4 BB/9 in 82 2/3 innings for the A's in 2011. He drew interest as a starter and as a reliever this offseason from teams such as the Rockies.

Harden is not an option.

Maybe that's why the sox didnt want to deal for him
They only needed to get a couple of good starts or relief appearances from him. The cost would have been Lars (with no Red Sox future and no trade value) and PTBNL with a future pumping gas. That is probably also Lar's future profession.

What? Give up Lars? One of our top prospects? :thumbdown

Refusal to give up Lars Anderson was not the problem. They were turned off by his medical reports, and looking at his second half-performance and recent surgery they were absolutely, 100% right.

This was a joke. Anderson is an appendix-useless. He is a first baseman. So is Gonzalez. Case closed. Furthermore, he stinks.
