Crawford's injury should not cost him months of the regular season. But nobody needed a solid spring more than Crawford did especially since confidence in Fenway, what goes on between his ears seems to be as important for him as everything else, maybe everything else combined. Care to bet on his having a solid spring at this point?

1)Jon Lester finishes in top 5 of the Cy Young race-winning more votes than CC Sabathia and Verlander.

2) Dustin Pedroia's power dips, but his OBP rises to .410.

3) Aviles, Punto and Iglesias all have mediocre seasons at SS, and everyone who didn't like Scutaro complains about the trade to move him.

4) Ryan Sweeney and Cody Ross both have career years in the OF.

5) Crawford doesn't return to the lineup until May.

6) Ortiz has a great April offensively, but falls apart in the summer.

7) Lavarnway wins Red Sox rookie of the year with 15 HR in 60 games.

8) Adrian Gonzalez leads the league in RBIs... and double plays.

9) Saltalamacchia is DFAed.... and no team claims him.

10) When Palodios goes to a Red Sox game in April, he throws a brick through the window of the Popeye's Chicken on Brookline Ave.

With the Astros, Jed Lowrie will win NL MVP...of my heart.

I love #7 Palodios but #9 concerns me no end. I guess Ryan takes over at catcher but with Salty DFA do I get the miserable and disgusting feeling that we may to stomach Putritek for another part of a season?

Don't they have Shoppach for that? Varitek and Wakefield are actually talking about retirement already man, stop beating that drum. They won't come to Boston thankfully.

I do not discard Wake if a SP doesn't land, but Yes, it is very unlikely IMO, and would be a terrible mistake.

No User, Wakefield is only talking retirement but in his own words "he is leaving the door open for sure". Now what the hell does that sound like to you? Let me give you a hint. He hasn't received ONE friggin' offer from anybody and that can only mean he is waiting for Lucchino and his patsy to open the invitation to him to come to ST. As for Varitek he has not mentioned retirement except to say he might or might not come to Fort Myers in March. Now if he was really going to retire why come to ST? You know he hasn't had an offer from anyone either. No User, I will not stop beating that drum until they announce their retirement or sign on with another team.

Once it starts falling apart for pro athletes it starts falling apart pretty quickly. With any luck at all Wake won't be able to find the plate with that knuckler with a laser range finder meaning he is truly done and not an option even if the Sox are desperate. The way he was going at the end last year got to be painful to watch. Not sure he could do anything worth talkin' about if he tried.

what the hell is this? Fred, you are 77 years old, no need to make up silly nicknames for other grown men. Thats just creepy......if you think he sucks, just say it.

My fearless prediction......right now, they are a third place team. They have stayed the same or gotten worse than they were last year.

People want to hang their hat on the fact that they missed the playoffs by 1 game last year. I missed the lottery drawing by 1 number, that doesnt make me any richer today than I was yesterday. As my marine core grandfather always said, "almost only counts in hand grenades and horseshoes".

If you're off by one number, don't you still win a little $$$?

Hey knock it off! Some people find his nicknames quite amusing because they're "fun to read". I was told that's his posting style.

Bud is trying to help the Sox out by moving the one game playoff to begin in 2012. We'll see though.

5th place! Woot!

Shoppach + Lavarnway will be fine. Shoppach gives the defense, Lavarnway gives the offense. The question I keep asking is... what does Salty give?

I think some of the nicknames like Hi Ho Silva and Short Order Cook are fine because they're clever/goofy Chris Berman type stuff. But Putritek is a whole other type of nickname.

The longest last name on the team? :harhar:

Salty's offense last year was totally respectable for a catcher. A .737 OPS, 16 HR and 56 RBI in about 2/3 of a season.

Lavarnway had a .738 OPS-in only 43 PA's of course. But are we maybe getting a little prematurely excited about this guy's ability to mash at the major league level?

He was being sarcastic though.

Shoppach needs to watch his back. He's really all that stands in the way of a Putritek return. There's dozens of cases in which people have been taken out over a million dollar payday--that's essentially what this would be.

Ahhh, another one has joined the bandwagon. Welcome aboard. Be careful, I took s*** for this all year last year!

I thought this thread would see more activity. Example' date=' User Name?, a700? Where are you guys? Help me out please...[/quote']

Its the quiet before the storm. Like I said, as constructed....this team is worse than they were a year ago by 3 arms and a SS......they lost their closer, setup man and best reliever in Papelbon, Bard and Aceves. They replaced them with Bailey and Melancon...and still have not replaced Aceves innings from a year ago.

Bard and Aceves have now become question marks in the rotation and we still dont have a real SS.

Fearless prediction? Nope....they are a third place team. Evidence? They finished in third place the last two years with better teams than this one right now.

Could it change? Yeah, but they need to do something about it.....and the offseason clock is ticking......

Well, if we go like this, I'm in this bandwagon. I bet that my compa A700 is with us.

This right here... I didn't think of it that way but it's true.

Expect a backlash though

First off, the 2010 and 2011 Red Sox are inconsequential to the 2012 version, and the 2012 version, as is, is arguably better than the 2010 one.

As for the rest of your post, an SP would be pretty much the saving grace for everything, because it would move Bard down to the 5th spot in the rotation, Aceves to the BP and then all they need is to find a good BP arm from the army of dregs they have assembled. By law of averages they should find something. Doubront, Tazawa and Padilla (pending non-crazy outburst) could fill that need.

As for not having a "True SS", funny you mention that, because Scutaro wasn't a "True SS". They'll manage.

It all hinges on a SP, be it now via signing, trade, or mid-season.

I respond to your post with my analysis because i assume you are attempting to generate discussion in this, a baseball discussion forum. Consider it backlash if you shall.
