Well, if you are only giving up Weiland and Middlebrooks, then you should jump at that. Neither of them are top prospects. The Yankees have 3 true top prospects in Montero, Betances and Banuelos, and if they are asking for two of them, then you have to pass

Ubaldo's velocity is definitely down this year.

It may be down, but he's 10th in MLB in velocity for qualified starters. Ahead of other ineffective fastballs like Felix Hernandez, Josh Beckett and Jon Lester.

I was concerned about that as well, but after watching some of his highlights it looks like he's pretty strong.

I was simply clarifying that his velocity is in fact down by a noticeable amount.

From what I understand, his velocity is down due to poor offseason training which stems from the CarGo extension that wasn't offered to him. This is probably why he's available right now. A change of scenery could be all he needs to kick it back into gear. Maybe not this year, but over this offseason and well into the next couple years.

It has been down, and down is rarely a good indicator. I just have to wonder about the Rockies publicly dangling this guy out there. I see those two facts as red flags. After the Lackey experience, I worry about starting pitchers with any red flags.

This from the Denver Post:

Jimenez admitted to me that he made a mistake going to Europe in January rather than follow his normal offseason throwing program. And obviously when Jimenez’s hip flexor became an issue in spring training, he would have been better off saying something. That would have allowed him more time to build his arm strength, something that’s been an ongoing process all year.

That's what I've heard he attributes to his drop in velocity.

His numbers still look good away from Denver.

The Red Sox have a lot of pieces--they should be using them to get starting pitching.

They aren't going to stay on top for long throwing Lackey, Wake and Miller out there every turn.

Not unless they score about 8 runs.

That's what I've heard as well. Of course that doesn't mean it's true. No pitcher's going to come out and say that they're losing velocity because they're fatigued from pitching 450+ innings in two years or because they may have elbow or shoulder issues.

Just playing devil's advocate here, I'd certainly welcome Ubaldo to the team.

I would much rather have Garza then Jimenez but the cubs dont wanna trade him.I know it sounds crazy but the guy can pitch.

Pence traded to Phillies for 2 prospects and 2 PTBNL

Both of which were top 100 BA prospects, one in the 30s, the other in the 70s. Decent trade, but I'm surprised that's all it took.

I really want Jimenez, I think we have the prospects to get him. We have Beckett, Lester, and Buch on his way back already. Bring in Ubaldo and we're looking at a rotation that can give Philly, Atlanta, and San Fran a run for their money.

I agree, I want Garza so goddamn bad.

I don't know why the Sox don't make a run at Pence. They have too many lefties in the OF.

He would balance the lineup. And he would probably hit more HRs in Fenway.

Looks to me they are going to use their trade resources for pitching. Which is OK.

They are way up in hitting, and way down in pitching--in the team standings.

Clearly, they need to improve their pitching--especially the starting pitching.

The asking price coupled with Reddick's play.

He's already in Philly. And I'd much rather focus on pitching.

Sorry guys' date=' I don't understand the infatuation with Garza. I'd much rather have Jimenez.[/quote']

The guy can pitch in the east and his worst numbers against an east team are still very serviceable. He's young and under control for more than half a season.

I'm not saying he's a bad pitcher, but I'm a huge sucker for power pitchers. 97-99 mph gas allows for a lot more mistakes.

Oh no doubt, I'd take Ubaldo in a heartbeat. I'd just prefer Garza.

Danny Knobler tweets that the Tigers are out on Jimenez for now, and while the Guardians have tried it looks like the Yankees or Red Sox if there's a trade at all. He says the door is slightly open for the Tigers to have another go at it, but that's not expected to happen.

A Rockies source pegs the chances of a Jiminez deal at less than 50%, with the Yankees and Red Sox most likely, tweets Yahoo's Jeff Passan.

Looks like we're the favorites for the time being considering all the talk about the Yankees interest waning and them not having contacted the Rockies today. It's still quite likely that neither one of us lands him though and we get Bedard and the Yankees get Kuroda.

This will be Bedard's first start since coming off the disabled list with a knee problem. How will they know if Bedard is healthy?

"If he's throwing that electric curveball, we'll know he's all right," said one Red Sox official.

It's only the 2nd inning and it's already pretty obvious that he does in fact have a very good curveball tonight.

Seems like he is gonna be the guy!

Theo needs to strike when the iron's hot. Go get Ubaldo right now, pull the trigger so he doesn't pitch tomorrow and we can have him throw before next Thursday.

This is a trade that I would be willing to "lose" slightly, i.e. overpay for him right now. The guy's stuff is electric, and with him, Beckett, Lester, and Buchholz, this team would be borderline unstoppable.

Bedard getting hit touched up by a horrible Rays offense.

Maybe this is what Theo needed to see to get the deal done on Ubaldo. Bedard couldn't make it through 2.

EDIT: Given he was on an extremely short pitch count, but its not like he was mowing them down.
