"Well, how'd Nova look?"

"The f***er's got a whip of 1.36 and more hits than IP, how the hell do you think he looked?"

"So we're gonna trade him to Boston?"

"If you don't, I quit."

Wow, a highlight play of a throw that anyone calling himself a shortstop ought to make. Especially with that much time to load up the throw. It's not exactly like he would have thrown out Brett Gardner or Curtis Granderson on the same play.

That was not a strong throw. Just a sharply hit ball that bought him plenty of time to make a bogstandard third baseman play. He gets some credit though, for getting it there on the fly. God knows Adgon has had to field a couple of two-hoppers from Youk.

He got hurt in 09 making throws from the hole. He's a second baseman by trade. He does not have a great arm for a shortstop, whatever one highlight play says.

Aviles maybe indicates Lowrie is going somewhere' date=' just off DL? Somebody is getting freed up to deal here. This ain't THE deal.[/quote']

Could be a long-term move. Lowrie has a good bat, I could see Scutaro leaving whenever his contract's up (I think it's this year with an option year but I could be wrong), and then the Lowrie/Scutaro situation this year with Lowrie/Aviles.

Sounds like you've made up your mind already, so I'll save myself time and not include video of his other strong throws.

P.S. - In 2009 he had TJ sugery, of course he wasn't making good throws.

When is the deadline

Tomorrow at 4pm. Speaking of the deadline...

Kuroda is the 'best bet' among players on Boston' radar, according to Sean McAdam of CSNNE.com (on Twitter). The deal is far from done, though.

The Dodgers' heaviest conversations about Kuroda today have been with Texas and Boston, according to Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports (on Twitter). The Yankees are still involved.

Rival teams believe the Rockies match up best with the Guardians, according to ESPN.com's Buster Olney (on Twitter).

Gordon Edes of ESPN Boston reports that the Red Sox are interested in outfielder Coco Crisp.

The Red Sox acquired Mike Aviles on Saturday and plan to try him in the outfield, but they'd rather add another player who is more familiar with the position. Enter Crisp. The 31-year-old has a weak .702 OPS on the season, but he'd provide great speed off the Boston bench and he has good range defensively.

Hell f***in' yes

I would absolutely LOVE to see us pick him up.

And why did he have TJ surgery? What usually brings that on in a baseball player? It's not *gasp* throwing mechanics is it?

Aviles in the outfield? WTFITS???? Aviles' only value -- at all -- is that he hits well FOR AN INFIELDER! I thought that one redeeming virtue of this trade was that it would buy Scutaro more rest! WHAT ARE YOU SMOKING THEO????

That absolutely can not be true. I simply refuse to believe anyone in the organization is that dumb.

RHH.

Put in perspective, who would you rather have in the outfield... Mcdonald or Aviles?

If it means that our 36 year old shorstop actually gets a day or two off, McDonald. Besides, he's done much better in the last couple months.

No, it's not. Anyone who throws a baseball overhand repeatedly is at risk for TJ. It's an unnatural motion regardless of your mechanics.

The Red Sox, Reds and Guardians are in on Jimenez, according to Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. The Yankees aren't talking actively with Colorado and won't include Nova, Betances, Banuelos or Montero in a deal for Jimenez (Twitter links).

Yeah go ahead and say that, but while you're saying it, ask why the Royals traded for 2 different shortstops rather than turning this guy loose at short after he came back.

I got my hopes up when we first got this guy because I remembered 2008. But he mighta played 25 games at short since. We haven't consigned Scutaro to his proper utility role, which is what we needed to do, we haven't even got a guy that the team is likely to use to spell Scutaro regularly, and the team has announced point blank with this trade that they aren't going to pursue an actual upgrade at starting shortstop, so I'm just slightly miffed. I don't think we can win the big one with Scutaro at short.

On a scale of 1-10, how much more f***ed is New York if we land Ubaldo? And for that matter, how much more f***ed is the rest of Major League Baseball?

EDIT: And why the f*** is NY so high on Nova, the guy's a back of the rotation starter at best and his numbers reflect that. He's nothing special.

Coco's the f***ing man. I was sad when we flipped him for Ramon Ramirez.

I totally agree. I understood at the time why he left, but I have been hoping he would return every year.

I would love to see him in his RS #10 again.

Too bad Scutar-Ho is wearing 10 if I remember correctly. I still remember that catch he made on David Wright's flyball against the Mets back in '06, the guy is Superman in the outfield.

I have no idea why the Yankees overrate Nova so bad. Back of the rotation pitcher, at best a 3-4 man in a weak rotation.

As far as if we get Ubaldo, damn. That would be sick, and it wouldn't just be for this year, it would be through 2014 at least! Our rotation would be insane.

That said, the Phillies are insanely stout now, especially since they can use Dom Brown as a DH in AL games.

On a scale of 1 to 10, New York is 8 and the rest of the league is about 3. Ubaldo isn't an ace. He's just a durable young arm with a lot of innings left in it. The Yankees, however, absolutely need exactly that at all costs to protect them from the dreaded Sabathia optout. If he opts out and signs with, say, the Rangers, then that screweness jumps to 11..

Eh, if he was a Sox pitcher we'd defend his upside and talk about what he'd do once he really "got it."

I heard that Dom's getting sent down probably. But yeah, Josh Beckett, Jon Lester, Clay Buchholz, Ubaldo Jimenez, and the recently solid Lackey as the 5 man? I'll take our chances against any other rotation in baseball.

I am not saying Nova is all that or anything, but a lot of Red Sox fans were hoping we would trade Buch a while back for something we thought would be better. I am just saying, maybe NY sees something in him that others don't.

A trade voids the 2014 option though according to Troy Renck.

But Buch always had ace potential, I always said no to any deal he was rumored to be a part of. Nova's just a tail end starter.
