Suns have you ever watched Hockey? It's ok if you don't like it but if you've never seen it that you're being ignorant. I've never seen a full hockey game before in my life so I'm not going to say anything about it. There was this one game though that was f***ing awesome. Senators vs Flyers in 2004. It was like watching UFC on ice.

So be it!

I only know these words because I was a big fan of British "Punk" Rock and I am a big time motorcyclist.

I almost got into hockey when I started watching the Stanley Cup Final but then I got back off of it. I've watched parts of games but not the whole games.

Haha, I bet you guys were not expecting this thread when you got up this morning.

It will settle down soon. All the Sox regulars have come out of this with great credit but I think special thanks should go to YesZir, who really did not know what was going on, but came round to things eventually, well done Sir, and also to Dojji who amazingly kept everything in perspective right the way through, and could even be a Scouser .

Thanks for taking the invasion and in-fighting in your stride.

I have a great affection for Boston since I visited a couple of years ago on route to visiting my son who was an intern in a hotel in the Lakes Region of NH for a year. We stayed in the Parker House Hotel..fantastic City and great people.

Anyways I think most things have been put straight since the United fans have tried stirring things up between us, but I just wanted to make a few points.

I would suggest there was no anti-American feeling it was ill feeling to two people who happened to be American, and anyone who tars a nation with the same brush is an idiot, although we have our fair share it has to be said.

We have not been saints in the past and there is some guilt in an accumulation of circumstances at Heysel that we are not proud of. Hillsborough was the darkest day in British Football, and there but for the grace of God go I. I was in the stand over where the deaths occurred, the year before I was in the very place where the fans were crushed to death, and saw it unfolding before my eyes.

I think to get a flavour of what Liverpool Football Club is all about and it's sense of community it is worth reading something about the Hillsborough disaster and looking at some images, it will help people understand...Ha, assuming anyone is that interested of course.

Anyway proud to be associated with the Red Sox, and here is to a long and happy relationship.

kindest regards

As the person that introduced Talksox to the word "quiff" (me, for the members that don't know how to read) I welcome you Sir.

Exciting times ahead for everyone involved with both teams.

Hopefully this Henry fella can live up to the expectation and restore us to our former glory, much like he did to your club.

Liverpool might be my favorite football team now, after this random 14 page explosion of premier league madness.

For those who are interested, I think John Henry would be a good owner for any of my favorite teams, and I'm glad he owns my beloved Red Sox. If I were a Liverpool fan I would be at least optimistic about the team's prospects moving forward. He's got a shitload of money and seems capable of listening to the opinions of real experts in the sport. He's also got a lot of pride, which is good because he is an owner who hates to lose. He won't be satisfied with mediocrity.

An earlier post by Dojji said something about songs at Red Sox games. Is it true you have songs? The Giants fans seemed pretty much motivated by the vdu/ scoreboard messages, apart from a few in the cheap seats where we were sitting.

This got skipped earlier, so I'll answer the question.

We're one of the few who do, actually. A lot of Boston's baseball tradition hails from older days, modern teams which made up more of their traditional canon later just use the Jumbotron to tell their fans to "MAKE SOME NOISE!" The songs themselves aren't that old but the fact that there are songs. songs that the fans sing I mean, not just songs that are played on the loudspeaker and everyone shuts up and listens, kinda sets Boston apart a bit.

We have Sweet Caroline at the 7th inning stretch, and when the game ends in a win for Boston, we all raise our voices in praise of

. Some of us tend to say "Dirty Water!" in the gamethreads after the last out or post images of dirty water for the reference and celebration. Point is, all of us know what Dirty Water is and what it means, it means a Red Sox win at home.

When we bring in the closer, our best short-innings pitcher whose job is to get out of the last inning with the lead intact, we also have

. That tradition is very new and started at the end of the World Series run in 2007, although Papelbon our current closer, who started that tradition, is in a bit of disgrace at the moment after a poor year and I am not sure that it will stick around when he moves on.

And for the very rare special occasion, there's

, this rendition by the Murphys. You guys might like the Dropkick Murphys as a band, feel free to check 'em out. They have a lot of the same kind of blue collar Irish inspiration that seems to be part of our New England bloodlines as well as your Scouser heritage.

BTW, how do you pronounce "Scouser?" Is it an assonance of Scooter (Skoozer) or Scouter (Skowzer)? Or something else?

New poster here. I've been viewing this thread with interest since the news came down in an official sense earlier this morning. Just wanted to let the Liverpool fans know what a class bunch they will be sharing a corporate office with in the years to come.

It is an intelligent fanbase with a devotion to their club and sport that perhaps only finds a rival in St. Louis with the Cardinal fans. The core of the support, like Liverpool, are fans who are part of a wonderful family tradition extending to the very founding of the club itself. But you'll also find Red Sox fans anywhere you turn in the nation. There are a great many Americans who have respect for the club and their history and wish them well.

Take the time to learn about this club. Get to know the Red Sox fans and their traditions. Learn about their great players (Ted Williams would probably find his equivalent in Billy Liddell). Take a look at that wonderful ground their teams play on. I think you'll like and appreciate what you see--even if you don't get everything about baseball. You share much in common with them.

The ownership group? Judging from my perch, they are just about everything LFC needs at this moment in time:

1. They hire quality professionals and let them do their work without the kind of daily interference you suffered under Hicks and Gilette.

2. They are not afraid to spend money. But they will not spend it for the sake of spending it. They'll get value for money.

3. At the same time, you're going to see investment put into your youth development programs. Henry's outfit have plowed money into the farm system (baseball variant of your youth and reserve clubs) and that investment has seen great results.

4. The stadium issue will no longer be held hostage. These folks will do what it takes to get the job done with a minimum of fuss.

In your previous owners, you had two individuals who played at sports management they way a day trader plays the stock market. The people who own your club now are quality managers with real experience in running sports operations.

The Red Sox are a great club. They don't have the trophies other teams have. But they have a history with a mix of glory, humor, irony, and tragedy that many Americans identify with in their own lives. I think that is a great part of their appeal nationwide. Once you Liverpool fans get a feel for that, I think some of you will be following them as well.

Of course we all know Dirty Water (The Title refers to the polluted Charles river that runs behind B.U.) is about a horny young man trying to bed virgins at Boston University. Right? Lol! Not to mention it was penned and performed by a band from Santa Monica California (The Standells).

Somehow Red Sox fans have become accustomed to singing "Sweet Caroline" by Neal Diamond. There is no doubt here. That is one of the worst songs he ever performed. Just ask him! How about Cherie Cherri (sp) or Kentucky Woman? Ha!

As for the Drop Kicks, sorry, they sucked as a Boston bar band have done nothing since.

Got to admire the Red Sox marketing crew, though!
