Daily Reminder to the FO:

Sign Carl Crawford!

Regular season tickets go on sale on December 13th. People are not going to be all charged up about spending a bundle to see Mike Cameron playing LF wearing a truss (sp), Jed (I have cough and will miss 3 months) Lowrie playing third base, and a parade of clowns coming in from the pen.

An important date--for sure. Expect a major signing before December 13th. Werth or Beltre?

I'm guessing Cameron's major role will be RHd DH this year against lefties, and backup OFder. Having Papi hit against lefties would be folly.

I think Werth and the The Edge (WWE) could be twins.

Wakefield: 2011 'probably' his last year

CAP CANA, Dominican Republic — Tim Wakefield indicated today that the coming season would be his last as a player.

"There are still some numbers I want to achieve. But I'm not going to put that much pressure on myself knowing that this probably will be my last year," the 44-year-old knuckleball artist said. "I'm not going to come out and say I'm going to retire at the end of the 2011 season. But getting closer to the end, I'd really like to enjoy it more than I did last year."

Wakefield was 4-10 with a 5.34 earned run average last season. But is proud of the fact that he threw 140 innings.

"I proved to them I could throw more than 100 innings," Wakefield said. "That was supposedly estimated what I was going to throw. I gave them 140 and proved I could stay healthy for the whole season. Hopefully I can do that again."

Wakefield acknowledged that he chafed at the role he was in last season, that of a spot starter, long reliever and mop-up man. But he seems to have come to the realization that the Red Sox will not give him a chance to earn a spot in the rotation.

"Regardless of what my role is going to be (next season), I think I'm going into it with more with my eyes open compared to last year," he said. "It was thrown in my lap that this is the situation and I was a little reluctant to accept it based on what I had done in '09 and the loyalty I had shown the club. That's water under the bridge, last year. I'm looking forward to coming in and contributing in whatever manner I can."

With 48-year-old Jamie Moyer unable to play next season because of an elbow surgery, Wakefield will be the oldest player in baseball. But Moyer has said he wants to come back in 2012.

"Good for him," Wakefield said. "I don't why, but good for him. ... More power to him if he wants to try to accomplish that. I don't know if I want to pitch that long. I'm leaving the door open. I'm playing it year by year and see what happens and see where it takes me."

Someone from the FO needs to sit down with him and tell him straight out that the team no longer has plans for him. He is delusional if he thinks he can still be a useful pitcher, and the FO is playing the role of the enabler.

Pffft.....that's propaganda planted by the Padres FO so other teams don't fill certain needs waiting for Gonzales as they keep a secret pact with him for a new contract that will be signed 1 1/2 hours before he becomes a FA.

Seriously though, it just makes too much sense. Theo has a boner for him, the Sox have money coming off the books and an opening. Want elite talent? Gotta pay for it.

Essentially.

How naive. :D The purpose of this story is to lower the expectations of its fan base. It is not a statement that they will not try to sign him. You are a lousy propagandist. :D When I run a baseball franchise, I'll assign you to scouting (if you'll promise to watch the gamez). I will keep you away from the marketing and public relations functions.:D

You lost me at promising to watch the games.

Don't get mad guys. Boycott the f*** out of the team. Cut back on watching NESN and don't go to Fenway. That and root against the Soccer team. Thats how to tell your front office to go f*** themselves. It's the only way.

I'm with you on the Soccer part. That sport bores me to tears.

ESPN Boston's Gordon Edes reports that Red Sox GM Theo Epstein is "making headway" in a deal for Padres first baseman Adrian Gonzalez.

The Red Sox have been linked to Gonzalez for seemingly forever, and once they lost Victor Martinez, we assumed they would step up their efforts to land the Padres star. Gonzalez will be a free agent after the 2011 season, and the Padres have conceded that they have no shot to retain him, so a deal was inevitable, and it sounds like one could be consummated soon. Stay tuned.

OMG PLEASE

also sign Werth , the lineup would be deadly

I was a little surprised that Theo would acquire Miller and Buchholz' date=' and then promptly dumped them. Maybe he's looking to bring them back on minor league deals? It's not that the Red Sox gave up anything to acquire them, I was just a little surprised at how quickly they got dropped.[/quote']

Me too with Miller, that makes no sense whatsoever.

I have complete faith Theo will blow this deal. If prospects or sandwitch picks had a hole in them he would penetrate them. We know how much he loves the farm. Gorden Edes is selling, I aint buying.

Sissy sport. Very un American.

Really?

Boycott the Sox? Not likely. Anyone that lives in eastern New England and can tie their own shoes knows this.

Cut back on watching NESN? Lol. That can't be done. There is no pay for view for Sox games. It's nothing or all. So I choose to pay $100./month to watch the Sox.

So soccer is a pussy sport? Hahahahahaha !

"Futball" does not translate well to American TV. Never the less, it is the one sport that is viable among most nations. Guess again.

Here's my question. If Boston signs Gonzales, what are the chances they get him into a long term contract? He's gonna be looking for Teixeira dollars, and the Sox could pay it, but what are the chances he does that and doesn't wait and fish the market?

The answer of "why" is simple. You lack the consistency (or coherence) in your thought process to understand anything related to baseball, and you show a bias against Theo Epstein that borders on the homoerotic. I've come to the conclusion that you have a poster of the guy in your room (obviously in your mom's basement) and you jerk off to it on a daily basis.

If I'm not mistaken, Hoyer has so much as said they can't resign Gonzales.

He's said it at least twice in the last two-two and a half months. If the Padre's are going to sign him long term, why bother saying it?

100% sure they ink him long term if they deal for the guy.

They have a master plan to take over baseball.
