I just came across a fairly disturbing stat for the Yankees.

Yankees SP last year threw 973 IP and allowed 470 ER for an ERA of 4.35 and a record of 72-50.

Take CC's 237.2 IP, 84 ER, and 21-7 record out of the equation.

Take Pettitte's 129 IP, 47 ER, and 11-3 record out of the equation.

And now you're left with 80% of your starts coming from Starting Pitching that posted a 5.03 ERA and went 40-40 last year.

That is a massive problem, and one that needs to be addressed, but according to Cashman, they're going in with what they've got.

...And the Sox offense got better. Smells like trouble to me.

Take Hughes out and it's even worse. Our #4 and #5 starters last yr were abysmal. One wasnt a fixable problem. Vazquez lost a few mph off his FB and couldnt get it by people anymore. That isnt fixable. AJ was cruising until a midseason divorce and his pitching coach went AWOL threw him off. I think he still has the stuff to be a solid #2 in the league, the question has always been if his head will be in it. I would assume he's a bit embarrassed and I expect him to improve. Hughes was fine as the #3, and I bet this yr, he improves to a #2 caliber starter. Pettitte isnt a 3ERA guy. He's more of a 4ERA guy and he isnt good for 32 starts anymore. We need to give him a lot of time if he comes back. I would try to limit him to 25 starts regardless of how strong he feels. We need him in the playoffs. I think our rotation needed Lee to be invincible. Without Lee, it is still good with the potential to be above average or excellent depending on how the breaks go

This just in - the Yanks had to pay $18mm in Luxury Tax payments this year. Since the current tax began in 2003, the Yankees have run up a bill of $192.2 million. The only other teams to pay are Boston ($15.34 million), Detroit ($1.3 million) and the Los Angeles Angels ($927,000).

Strange. The Yankees all try to savage the Sox for signing Crawford for 7 years/$142mm, but hey, at least if we spend $140mm, we get a 5 tool player and aren't just making a CBT donation!

Oh and just for the record, I'm not Dutchy. I just introduced myself on the Intro page, and they let me in on who Dutchy is.

I'm really not him, just to be clear. Hopefully that's not an insult comparing me to Dutchy, but if it is, at least I'm ignorant to it haha

Yankees Interested In Johnny Damon

By Ben Nicholson-Smith [December 22 at 5:50pm CST]

The Yankees are interested in bringing Johnny Damon back to New York and are discussing a potential reunion with him, according to Newsday's Ken Davidoff. Davidoff reports that the Yankees are open to bringing the 37-year-old back as a part-time left fielder and DH. Though the sides have had multiple conversations about possible deals, Damon would ideally like more guaranteed playing time.

Damon has been open about his preferences so far this offseason, saying publicly that he likes the idea of playing for the Yankees, Red Sox and Rays. The Dodgers have expressed some interest in the Scott Boras client, but the defending World Series Champion Giants don't appear to be a fit.

Jorge Posada will be the Yankees' primary DH in 2011 and Brett Gardner and Curtis Granderson will play every day in left and center, the positions Damon played as a Yankee. Both Gardner and Granderson bat left-handed, so the Yankees seem better-suited for an outfielder who bats right-handed.

Damon bats left-handed, but has a career .282/.347/.402 line against southpaws. He hits righties better, but doesn't show a serious platoon split, so the Yankees may feel comfortable playing him in place of Granderson or Gardner against tough left-handers.

Not on my end, I liked Dutchy, and I think many people here did too. He got banned for some reason, but that was probably before I was a big time member here. I didn't know him too well, but from what I remembered he was nice to me.

It's been a great Holiday Season for Sox fans. Santa basically gave the Yankees a bag of crap (Mark Prior) that was placed under the tree next to a lump of coal (Luis Vizcaino). Ho Ho Ho!!!:lol::lol:

If this is true the Yankees may be screwed. CC, Hughes, Burnett, Then ??, then ??. Mark Prior?? is he the answer for the 4 spot, then Nova for Five. The Yankees have 2 All-Star (assuming Hughes equals next year) then Head-Case Burnett(you don't know what you are gonna get). Then two holes yet ot be filled if Pettitte retires.

I still think Pettitte comes back, but if he doesn't, I'd guess Nova and an acquisition round out the rotation.

And just for discussion's sake: what about converting Joba Chamberlain to starter again?

I think you already f***ed with Joba's mind enough keeping him in the pen.

It would be great if they jerked Joba back to the rotation lol

That's a scary thought. I don't care how old or immobile Manny is, he still is a hitter I would not want the Sox to face. That being said, this is a quote from an article I read earlier

Discussions, however, are just discussions, and Curry reports that the "chance of deal is less than chance with [Johnny] Damon, which is also unlikely."[/Quote]

Yanks in on Manny. I would be 100% for this move as long as Manny is cool with maybe 100-110 starts and a lot of PH duties

100-110 starts where? Left Field or DH?

Both, I guess.

Manny says he does not want to play left anymore. Whatever. It would be fun watch him toil in left at Yankee stadium.

Manny would be a typical ball-breaking move by the Yankees. He would fit nicely into that lineup and the Yankees never pass on an opportunity to stick it to Red Sox Nation. They probably will not go more than $5 million, and I don't think Manny plays for short money. If you remember last year's off season, Damon was begging for crumbs and the Yanks offered him $1-2 million.

I'm not sure if Girardi could handle all of those egos. They'd better bring Joe Torre back. ;)
You are right about that. Girardi could never handle Manny. Girardi was on the TV pregame crew in 2007 when Manny styled on what turned out to be a game winning single that hit the top of the OF wall (against Cleveland I think). The next day Girardi was ripping on Manny like crazy. This was a minor Manny being Manny transgression and Girardi entirely overlooked the fact that it was the game winning hit. I thought Girardi was a jerk about it. I told my son that I have to laugh when piece of s*** .240 lifetime hitter complains about the way that a HOF players plays the game. He could never handle Manny. You are right about that.

I wouldn't mind Manny going to New York. I hate him already' date=' seeing him in pinstripes would make me hate him more. Plus he'd have to cut his hair[/quote']You hate one of our Champions? Watching Manny was tremendously entertaining and he is one of the greatest hitters of all time.

Manny may be an idiot, but that idiot was the MVP in the team's first world series championship in generations. Everyone who ever hated him over-reacted. Quite frankly, if the sox add him, they win the AL in 2011, no question.
