Waiting for Jacko to spin this around....

Sorry Dipre, I am not typically on a website talking baseball at 2am unless I am at work.

I put my thoughts in the Lee thread, but might as well put them here. The Yanks are still one of the top 2 teams in baseball, so they dont have to panic. We have time to wait until the trade deadline to analyze and see what needs to be done. I would assume Pettitte comes back, giving us a rotation of...

1. Sabathia

2. Hughes

3. Pettitte

4. Burnett

5. Nova

Having the big boy at #1 makes this Lee thing sting a little less, but god it makes things complicated now. Now, the above rotation is littered with possibilities and pitfalls. If Hughes takes the next step into becoming a top tier pitcher, then Lee would have been a luxury. If AJ finds his form again, then Lee would have been a luxury. If Nova turns in a nice season as a #5 starter and shows progress, then Lee would have been a luxury. The pitfall is that if none of the 3 above occur, then Lee or someone of his ilk turns into a necessity. And that's why this deal hurts so much. It turned a surplus into "even" with the possibility of being a deficit. Getting Lee would have put us far and away the #1 team in baseball. As it stands, I think the Phillies take the top spot there and Boston is probably the on-paper favorites in the AL right now. But we'll see what happens. Cash offered the most money and the most years (since year 7 was a player option), so I cannot be mad. I think Braunecker played NY like a fiddle, though. He led the Yanks down the path of following him like a dog then got put down. I can tell you this much, though. Lee's wife better not even come to the stadium next time, cause the rabid Yankee contingent might fling feces at her.

Jacko- The Phillies are better than the Yankees Best Rotation and a better Lineup.

Are the Yankees Better than the Phillies and the Red Sox. Your post includes a lot of IFs too. If The Bear Didn't stop to take a s*** he would have caught the Rabbit.

Please stop sugar coating everything. You are making everybody sick with your garbage.

Jacko is fine. It's why we let him get so far out on a limb. Because when he's wrong, the fall is a spectacular watch :D. At least he showed up to respond. Only a handful of the "Yankee" fans have shown up to take their lumps. So you have to give him some amount of respect.

Yankees Reach Agreement With Russell Martin

By Tim Dierkes [December 14 at 9:32am CST]

The Yankees have reached an agreement with catcher Russell Martin, tweets MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez. With Jorge Posada moving into a designated hitter role next year, Martin should be the Yankees' starting catcher. Since Martin has less than five years of service time, he's under team control for 2012 as an arbitration eligible player.

Martin, 28 in February, hit .248/.347/.332 in 387 plate appearances for the Dodgers before being non-tendered this month. His season ended in August due to a hairline fracture in his right hip. Martin was once a rising star for the Dodgers, but he turned down a $4.2MM offer (an $850K pay cut) to return in 2011. He's represented by Matt Colleran.

Jacko didn't once acknowledge the Sox being a better team than the Yanks.....on paper. Pathetic.

Oh, and change the "top two" to "top three" since the top two spots are occupied by Boston and Philadelphia (no particular order).

I don't care if you're not posting on a message board at 2 AM, but i expected exactly the spin-job response you gave regardless of the hour, day or location.

Clockwork.

I hear Carl Pavano is still available

I'm assuming this was said 'tongue in cheek', but I'd be all for this. He would fit very nicely into the number three or four slot in the rotation. I really don't care about his first stint in NY. It was a complete fluke.

The signing of Martin could be setting up the movement of Montero in prospect package. Hopefully, the Yanks don't pull off one of their patented moves where they package up a few over-hyped prospects for a real good major leaguer like Greinke. That would suck.

Montero, the Yankees best trade chip is not what KC is looking for. They lack overall what KC is said to be looking for in a Grienke return.

The Royals have a wealth of pitching talent in the minor leagues, a hot first-base prospect in Eric Hosmer, an elite young third baseman in Mike Moustakas and a hard-hitting catcher, Wil Myers, who is probably going to have to shift to the outfield in the majors. As a result, sources say, Moore has focused on adding up-the-middle position players who are close to major league ready

I think it' more likely they tade for one of the White Sox SP. Buehrle, Danks, or Floyd. All of whom have been rumored to possibly be available.

Danks? Where did you see that? If he's on the market yes please. Stay away from Grienke. I doubt the Yankees will trade for Grienke or that Danks is on the market though.

The Yankees as constructed are still a 90+ win team. They have a minor league system full of trade chips they can use to improve and fill some holes, and it's December 14th. I'm not really concerned.

The Yankees don't have a lot of options. But the one--and best--option they do have is Andy Pettite.

Considering the number of top starters that have been traded in the last year-- Oswalt, Halladay, Lee, Haren, even Vazquez, and eventually Greinke-- I think getting a #1 or #2 guy right now is going to be incredibly expensive.

Posted

Yankees were foolish for passing for Haren last season when they had a chance because they decided it was better to wait and throw the money at Lee in FA.

Now they have to rely heavily on Pettitte returning, along with Hughes having another All-Star year and Burnett getting back on track.

They were a 95 win team with Jeter having his worst season, ARod being non-existant for half the year, Pettitte missing 2 months, AJ turtling with his pitching coach on leave and Tex playing like garbage for 2.5 months. I expect AJ to be better than last yr, how much who knows. I think he could be anywhere from a #2 to a #4 starter, which is better than the #5/swing man he became at year's end. And I do think the extra year will help Hughes. That being said, acquiring another bona fide star would have secured a stellar rotation. But what is left isnt bad at all as long as Pettitte returns. If he doesnt, then we are gonna be scrambling

Cashman in his interview said that the Yankees would not be pursuing Greinke. He said that he is the exact opposite of RJ, who lashed out at people. He said that Greinke "turtles when under stress, not a great quality for a pitcher in NY." That is as ringing an endorsement for not getting someone as I have ever seen

Hypocritical Family man and devoutly religious hypocrite Andy Pettitte will squeeze some of the Cliff Lee money out the Yankees. Hopefully, the HGH will stop working and his elbow ligament will blow apart in the opening home sries.

Pretty sure Williams won't trade Danks, and Buehrle is entering his last season. He may retire. But I know Williams is dangling Floyd out there.

The Yankees are believed to be on Felix Hernandez's no-trade list, according to Jon Heyman of SI.com (Twitter link).
It would be just like the Yankees to pull off a trade for a major guy in return for over-hyped prospects like Montero.

The f_ck? You just traded Kelly, haha.

We'll see if Montero is overhyped. The kid can hit. That being said, I think the Yankees make some small moves over the next few weeks. Sign Pettitte. Re-sign Wood. Definitely add a lefty, likely Feliciano. Go out and get another Thames type player. Add some more depth signings to the minors. Probably add Hairston to the bench. Make the team a bit deeper with the money left on the table by Lee. I doubt we acquire a big time starter aside from Pettitte prior to the trade deadline. But at the deadline, if the rotation hasnt gelled and improved, then I expect Cashman to make a major acquisition

Sooo.... Might have a reason for AJ's failures last yr. He was served with divorce papers halfway through the season and his wife apparently has been pretty rough through it all. Not an excuse, but maybe that is why he tanked 3 of the last 4 months. Who knows, we shall see
