Exactamundo. And, Detroit has incentive to just let him go. They aren't making the playoffs (neither are the Sox, but, whatever), so they have $1.8M reasons to let him go, even if they a player back.

If they are toying with an arbitration offer in the hopes of draft picks, then that changes the dynamic, but this could happen regardless of what Damon wants.

it doesn't sound like they're going to release him if they just promised him playing time. if he came to detroit and asked them what's best for the team why would they say that what's best for the team would be to block a trade and then release him and get nothing for him in return?

NTC, let's spell it out......No Trade Clause.

When you are released, you are released....period.

I'm fascinated by his insistence that Detroit really wants him to stay. Also, he is supposedly scarred by the treatment he got from Boston fans after signing with the Yankees.

I think he may have brain damage.

let's try to be logical here. if the tigers have plans to release damon, why would they promise him playing time and tell him to block a trade so they can't get anything in return for him?

I know there where threats to his family because he didn't leave town immediately after he signed with the Yankees. There are always a few idiots that do things like that that are uncalled for. I surely am glad he decided to stay in Detroit though. We didn't need him.

Oh, now you want to discuss why you think it won't happen?

I was responding to your assertion that it "couldn't" happen.

I have no desire to guess about the Tiger's intentions. All I outlined was a scenario where he could come here in response to the people who were making it sound like Damon's opinion was the last straw here.

They were discussing this on EEI with JP Ricciardi and he said that a lot of the no trade's have no waiver claims either. In this instance, if a player is waived and a team picks up his contract, he has the right to refuse his assignment and become a FA while collecting his paycheck.

Hey..I can admit when I am wrong. I had no idea witty Johnnie's feewings were hurt so badly. That being said I would not be surprised if Theo threw a midling prospect at the Tigers and took on the remaining salary. Dombrowski might just urge Johnny to go. My stance is I don't want him on the Sox if he truly doesn't want to be there and this seems to be the case.

Sooo.. I hear Abreu and Fuentes were put on waivers.... we could use both of them and Abreu is MUCH better than Damon and would be an ideal leadoff hitter.

Please get Abreu. He hits like a beats at Fenway.

funny thing here is Abreu DID play LF against the Red Sox last week...he made some good plays too. I would expect the Angels would want a decent return though. Abreu could actually give the Sox a real shot with his OBP capabilities, speed, and experience at the top.. Bobby would be a huge upgrade over what we have.

I could go for Abreu at the right price. Don't like gumming up our outfield with him in 2011, but it can work out I think.

At this point, I'm only in for the business. I gave up on the team making the playoffs a long time ago, so I'm only interested in what we have to give up, vs. what we can get out of the player later.

any other former yankees outfielders available? maybe we could see if bernie williams would like to come out of retirement
Could always dig Babe up :D .

NWIH Napoli clears waivers. And I doubt that the Angels let him go if claimed even though Napoli isn't a great fit in Anaheim because his raw power is a huge asset.

If we could get him though, I'd be thrilled. He has enormous potential to be helpful to this team

The Angels have little reason not to pull him back. They still have a couple years control of the guy. Unless Theo already has a working agreement on a trade that would involve a significant Boston asset going the other way, I don't think it happens.
