tired mostly. Just spend the last 3 days partying with med school buddies. A little worn out

well, you know what they say the best remedy for a hangover is...

why don't you crack open a cold one and enjoy the game

Joe Girardi is a f***ing idiot. Yep, start Granderson against one of the best lefties in baseball. SOLID idea, Gardner had a better chance since he actually stands in there against lefties. Grandy just flails away like he's trying to protect himself

Sox lucked out tonight, if Thames's blast went a inch or two further instead of hitting the top of the wall the game would've concluded with a 3 - 2 score

And if the NYY hadn't left 11 men on base the outcome could have been quite different.

Sox should have scored more runs in the first 2 innings when Hughes was struggling.

A win is a win. We'll take it.

yeah, that's rough that you have to hit the ball over the wall to get credit for a home run

Joe needs to remember something. Mariano has NEVER been good in the regular season at being a guy who holds a tie.
Joe's problem right now is that guys like Gardner and Cervelli have turned back into pumpkins. Grandy can't hit lefties to save his life, and he doesn't have Damon and Matsui anymore. He also has Burnett blowing up on a regular basis, and Phil Hughes is rapidly approaching his innings limit, so he'll need to scale him back. Mo pitching in tie games is the least of his problems.

You weren't saying this all the times they brought him in a tie game this year. The tie game stuff from past years is just flukey. He's a great pitcher, and with the Rangers' middle of the order coming up, and Robertson having already pitched, Rivera was the correct choice.

Additionally, until Murphy's AB, he pitched fine. The hits from Young and Hamilton were soft and lucky. That easily could have been a 1-2-3 inning.

Damon and Matsui haven't been so hot this year

Damon has a .278 AVG with 37 RBI's, 7 HR's, and 7 SB's

Matsui has a .243 AVG with 57' RBI's and 14 HR's

The Yankees don't miss the 2010 version of these guys. They miss the 2009 version of them. They were a big part of that club's success, and the Yankees haven't replaced them.

Vazquez is dealing with some serious dead arm. We need Pettitte back. With Hughes showing his inexperience, Vazquez' dead arm, and Burnett's unpredictability, this rotation is suddenly suspect

Yup, no one saw this coming...

On the bright side, great win tonight. Down 6-1 against Cliff Lee with twelve outs to play with, and they come back and win. Great stuff.

What are the odds that the night that Cliff Lee is pitching, the Rangers would use six relievers? He hasn't needed more than two relievers since opening night when the Mariners needed four.

Some interesting food for thought here...

August record- 4-6

Runs scored per game- 3.9

Runs allowed per game- 4.2

QS- 5

The Yankees ERA in August right now is 3.93, which is solid. The problem is, it's 7th in the AL in August. Our hitters arent hitting. We have a .684 team OPS in August thus making our SP issue a bit more glaring. I am not blind. I see that after CC and without Pettitte, you're rolling the dice. But the offense has made this dead arm period for both Hughes and Vazquez pretty apparent

Pettitte will be refeshed now and should be sharp the rest of the year. They can go with a 3 man rotation again in the post season and not worry about Vazquez pitching. If Burnett is on track they can even shift Hughes into the pen.

They got lucky last year in the postseason with the three man rotation. AJ was awful in his one start on three days rest, and Pettitte admitted (and it was clearly visible) that he had nothing in game six.

Now, this year, they eliminated the off day between games four and five of the League Championship Series. So unlike last year, when Burnett and Pettitte only had to pitch on three days rest in the World Seres, they would now have to do it in both rounds. And, on top of all that, the Yankees won't have the luxury of choosing the longer Division Series this year, so their pitchers would also be pitching on short rest in the first round.

It's a lot easier said than done to go with another three man rotation in this year's postseason, if the Yankees make it.

We're gonna make it. But we are gonna need 4 starters. My guess is that Hughes will be one of the 4 and Vazquez will be left off. Vazquez has been solid this yr, dont get me wrong, and for the price, he was well worth it. But his variation in stuff makes him a tough play in the playoffs

suddenly is a relative term. i think most of the other posters in this thread pointed this out about a month agao
