That actually wasnt a bad pitch' date=' though. Letter high FB inside is a tough ball to drive.[/quote']

Wasn't where he wanted it. It was supposed to be in off the plate. He missed his spot, which is the norm for his fastball.

They've swung at so many balls tonight. Dammit, this would be a bad loss.

EDIT: It means absolutely nothing tonight whether they're up in the count or behind in the count.

Haven't watched much of this game but I'm shocked Wade Davis has held NY to 2 runs in the 7th.

He has pitched significantly worse than his line would indicate. Teixeira and A-Rod have missed a bunch of great pitches, and the whole lineup has chased pitches out of the zone.

When you couple that with Joe Girardi picking the absolute worst time to hit and run with Jeter up in the fifth inning, and you're not going to score many runs.

I'll tell you, taking the spotlight off of him with this trade deadline could be the best thing for him. But scoring 2 runs vs Wade Davis especially since we got those two before he registered an out is shameful. Hopefully Berkman's acquisition helps with that. Reminds me of when the Cards went out and got Walker

Teixeira has been absolutely brutal tonight. He's missing great pitches to hit.

And water is wet. Point is, this is baseball, more cookies get missed than hit, even by great hitters.

I only say this because your posts indicate an unreasonable expectation that they will indeed hit all the good pitches they get. If this isn't your expectation, I'm sorry for misreading your posts, but it is a theme.

I'm implying anything. I'm simply stating facts, and those are that, tonight, they lost in large part due to Teixeira and A-Rod continually missing good pitches to hit. I was also mentioning this earlier in the game in an attempt to illustrate that Davis wasn't really that good tonight, as he continually missed his spots with his fastball, yet also continued to get away with it.

And lately there has been an expectation that pitchers never miss their spots. Hughes pitched a damn good game. He missed with one pitch and lost because our offense blew its load in Cleveland.

This really tells me that you either didn't watch tonight's game, or just weren't paying close enough attention. Tonight, like most nights when he pitches, Hughes continually missed the desired target with his fastball.

The way you expressed it reads like disappointment. Disappointment suggests they have failed to meet expectations. That is all.

Of course I was disappointed. I want the Yankees to win. Them not hitting those pitches hurt the Yankees chances of winning. In this case, it doesn't suggest that they failed to meet any kind of arbitrary expectations on my part.

Outfield defense has cost them tonight. Jaso's ball should have been caught in the first, and Jaso only should have had a single in the third. If both of those things had happened, Javy would be working on a shutout.

The Rays just make it look so easy with a runner at third and less than two outs, something the Yankees constantly struggle with.

EDIT: And more bad outfield defense.

Any problem that Javy has stems from his poor fastball this year. He gets beat on his fastball more than he should, and he also can't trust it to get ahead in the count. It forces him to go with a ton of off-speed pitches early in counts, and with the batters well aware of that, they're able to make him pay when he leaves one up in the zone.

Turning into a home run derby these last few innings. Might want to get someone up in that pen' date=' Maddon.[/quote']

Who are you rooting for?

I really have no idea. It's just great baseball. I mean if Rays win, tie atop the division, but in the long run I think there is a better chance that the Sox catch (or at least come closer to catching) the Rays than the Yanks.
