Big big hit from A-Rod. This would be a nice one to have with Lee and King Felix coming up.

EDIT: Kind of funny to think that this is the guy who people always complained never came through in big spots. 2007 started to put that to rest, and I guess last year's postseason completely ended any talk of that.

Well' date=' we benefit a little tonight. Hughes starts vs David Pauley instead of Lee[/quote']

Oh boy. The legend that is David Pauley. Had no idea who he was with.

Just awful defensive positioning for the Yankees. If you're going to pitch Johnson in, the center fielder can not be positioned in the right center field gap.

With Figgins on deck there is no reason to pitch to Ichiro here.

EDIT: Just walk him please.

EDIT 2: Wow, got to give credit to Phil. That was some pitch.

Nick Swisher just bunted. That's insane.

EDIT: Big hit for Robbie, who has been struggling as of late. The bunt was still incredibly stupid (based on a similar incident earlier in the season, I bet Swisher did it on his own), but the middle of the order came through.

Nice win. I finally feel comfortable saying Teixeira has turned it around.

The pitching tonight, mainly from Hughes and Robertson, is also encouraging.

Hughes righted the ship a bit, Tex is on fire and the Yankees keep rolling. The Yankees are 5-0 in the second half and gained a game on the Rays last night. We run into a buzzsaw tonight in Hernandez, hopefully Javy can keep us close

The M's have a team .308 OBP and a .346 SLG on the season. Their .654 OPS is tied for 2nd worst in the majors with the Pirates, just ahead of the Astros. No offense to Vazquez but the Mariners are a really bad offensive club.

Vazquez would have shut down anyone with his stuff tonight. He was really fricking good. The change and curve were working and he was operating on the plus side of 90 all night. Although Girardi tried to f*** everything up by leaving him out there too long, but 7 scoreless

I think that is what the Lee deal would have done' date=' shored up the back end of the pen. Lee to the rotation, Hughes to the setup role. Joba looks like a deer in headlights[/quote']

I would have kept Hughes in the starting rotation all along even if they get Lee. He is been one of your best pitchers this year.

Yeah, but I dont like Burnett or Pettitte in the pen and Hughes would be much better than Vazquez in filling our setup role. We need another reliever or some bolstering from the rotation. I think there is a VERY strong possibility that Hughes is back there in the playoffs.

With all the talk about Cliff Lee being the best pitcher in the AL, CC is quietly jumping to the forefront of the Cy Young conversation with Jon Lester and David Price. CC has started 19 games, with 14 of them being QS's. He's thrown 5 straight starts with 1 or less ER and 7 or more IP. He's thrown 131IP, good for 4th in the MLB and 2nd in the AL to Felix Hernandez. He's 10th in the AL in K at 104, first in wins with 12, 9th in WHIP and 9th in ERA in the AL East and he is known as a second half pitcher. If he goes on another second half tear, the award should be his. As it stands right now, he is the best pitcher on the best team in baseball, so he's definitely in the conversation.

I love having the big lug. He quietly goes about his business, throwing 7-8 inning with ease and always keeping the offense of the other team down.

The mental masturbation is nice and all, but consider the following:

Jon Lester stats:

W-L: 11 3

W%:.786

ERA: 2.78

IP:120.0

K:124

ERA+: 160

WHIP: 1.092

H/9:6.5

HR/9:0.5

BB/9:3.3

K/9:9.3

K/BB:2.82

CC Sabathia stats:

W-L: 12 3

W%:.800

ERA: 3.09

IP:131.0

K:104

ERA+: 131

WHIP: 1.137

H/9:7.4

HR/9:0.8

BB/9: 2.8

K/9: 7.1

K/BB:2.54

Lester dominates every statistical category except wins, BB/9, IP and Win%.

I saw Jacko mention how Sabathia was "better" than Lester in another thread, and this is simply not true. And by the way, baseball is played on the field, he may be a "second-half pitcher" but he has to outpitch Lester, Price and Lee, tear or no tear, to win the Cy Young.

Be objective.

WHIP is negligible, ERA difference is significant and the K's are significant. CC has thrown more IP, has more wins, and more QS's. I said that he is in the conversation with Lester and Price. I am being objective, maybe it's time you actually decided to give the big guy his due
