they got him with the hopes that DHing would keep him away from the injury bug. The wrist hadnt been his problem for about 5 yrs or so. The prior stuff had been lower body/ fluke injuries (femur fractures dont happen every day). Now that this wrist injury has crept back into his life' date=' I have to assume he's done. Until Montero starts getting hot, we might need another bat, or hope that Miranda can find it[/quote']

The wrist hadn't been a problem for 5 years? It's really strange how he missed almost all of 2008 with an injury to his wrist tendon sheath then.

Yet again, Gardenhire finds a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Start the 7th with a clearly tired Baker, then bring Matt Guerrier to face A-Rod (A-Rod's 6-4 against the guy with THREE HOME RUNS). Grand Slam, 7-4 Yanks in the 7th.

Neshek, Mijares, and Nathan are on the DL. Gardenhire's bullpen is decimated. A little unfair to pin this on him.

It's not all Gardenhire's fault. But with A-Rod up in a key situation late in the game, Guerrier was pretty much the worst person he possibly could have picked to pitch to him.

Rivera missed 2 games with stiffness and Pettitte's skipped one start. As for Johnson' date=' and Posada, what did you expect? Johnson's never healthy. In 10 years as a regular, he's played in 135 games once. And Posada's a 38 year old catcher who hasn't stayed healthy since 2007. Besides, his absence has been great for the team. Cervelli's second on the team in OPS and he's batting .750 with runners in scoring position.[/quote']

Rivera was held out for over a week. But again, as I said, it's not about the severity of the injuries. What was expected is irrelevant, the fact is that they've been hurt by the injury bug so far this year. That's undeniable.

This second guessing is stupid. Look at what he has to work with right now, and pick a better RP for that situation.

What happened to your whole thing about not second guessing managers after the fact?

The first game he was unavailable for was May 3rd and he was available to pitch May 5th.

But that's not really important. The Yankees have had players miss 2-3 starts or a starter that's skipped a start. So what? They've only had to put 4 players on the disabled list this year, most other teams haven't been so lucky.

Well I don't cary a computer with around with me everywhere, and I wasn't home during the game so it was kind of hard for me to object on here

Other than the closer,

Crain or Burnett would have provided him with the righty on righty matchup he wanted and unlike Guerrier, they haven't given up 3 home runs to A-Rod in 6 at bats (now 4 home runs in 7 at bats).

A-Rod's 1-7 in his career against Crain and he's never faced Burnett which is an advantage for a pitcher.

Girardi did everything he could not to use Rivera, and it's no coincidence that he went all that time without pitching.

Again, I'm not saying the Yankees are worse off than anyone else. All I'm saying is that they've been bit by the injury bug lately. It's a fact, and it hardly calls for a debate.

I have no issue with you objecting, nor do I disagree with you. However, regardless of why you couldn't post it at the time, it comes across as pretty hypocritical after you gave me a hard time for doing the same thing.

Oh well. If it makes me a hypocrite to point out that it wasn't a good idea to bring in a pitcher to face a hitter who's 4-6 off him with 3 home runs, then I guess I'm a hypocrite :D

You did exactly what you gave me a hard time about doing. Whatever.

Mijares pitched last night, champ. So did Duensing and his sub-2.00 ERA, who was actually warm in the 7th.

It's all Gardenhire. Baker obviously had to rear back in the fifth and sixth, and had 94 pitches. Had he started the inning with Guerrier, then the results would've probably been different. And he also had Mijares, Duensing, Crain and his closer for future matchups.

It's the story time and again between the Twins and the Yankees. The Twins take a lead to the late innings and Gardenhire makes moves or non-moves that blow up in his face every time. He might be a good baseball man and all that, but when the Twins are playing the Yanks, I want Shitenhire in the stands sitting next to me so I can tell him how his moves would have screwed up the game. He's a good baseball man alright, but he's a loser. The people of the Twin Cities and the Twins organization need to wake up to that fact. He reminds me a lot of Gene Mauch in that respect--- great baseball man, teacher etc., but a complete loser when it came to locking down an important game.

Both managers were horrific last night. I actually think Gardenhire's worst move was letting Baker back out for the 7th inning. He had looked really bad for the last few inning, but I guess Gardenhire was influenced by the fact that he looked good against Randy Winn, Marcus Thames, and Juan Miranda. For whatever reason, that was pretty bad.

On the other side of things, Girardi pitching to Morneau, with Joba ready in the bullpen to face Cuddyer, and first base open, was awful.

Shouldn't let him settle down.

Nope, and we know he will.

On the bright side, Teixeira and A-Rod look like they might be coming all the way around.

I'll tell you, I love having Francisco Cervelli in the lineup right now. Would much rather he be in the lineup than Winn. He plays great defense, has good speed and is an absolute pest at the plate. He wont hit .400 for the entire yr. Hell, he probably wont finish over .300 on the yr, but he just doesnt give up at bats. He'll bunt, he'll battle, he'll run. Keeps you on your toes, and he is directly responsible for that run
