So it doesn't make sense to get the maximum possible return for Gonzales when the Padres have a barren ML club and even worse minor league system?

Besides Kyle Blanks, there is not one impact player in that system.

I think he would get just as good a return with one year left as he would now. Look at Halladay. At the All-Star break, everyone was stating that the Jays would be lucky to get 60 cents on the dollar on the offers they got at the break.

Now...would you say that's true? No.

They also need to put someone in that park. AG is their only drawing card. I would be surprised if he was moved this off-season, honestly.

The more time left on a player's contract (specially an affordable one like his) the better the return his team can get when trading him.

If San Diego doesn't trade A-Gon between now and the All-Star break, it'll be because they couldn't find anyone to match up with for him.

That team has no drawing power with or without him.

Miggy was traded only because they had to pick one of hanley or miggy to keep and sign long term.

Fabrications.

They traded him because he was about to get really expensive for them, which is what is about to happen with Hanley.

Precisely. And so is Josh Johnson probably... The Marlins are cheap.

If the Red Sox don't pull the trigger on a deal for Halladay' date=' I wouldn't be surprised if the Yankees swooped in and got him. That would firmly establish the Yankees dominance in 2010 and maybe for a few years beyond.[/quote']

I'd be surprised if Halladay is a Yankee or Red Sox. I'd also be surprised if you're not really a closet Yankee fan.

I don't understand why that makes him a closet Yankee fan. I don't think the Yankees will end up with Halladay, but it's very possible, if no one pulls the trigger, that the Yankees take the opportunity. If they do that, they're going to be tough to beat. Nothing about what he said is inaccurate, nor is it even pessimistic.

No, no... sorry, I'm not saying he's a closet NYY fan because of the Halladay thing.

lol

You'd have to go back multiple pages -- i think in this thread (?) -- to see where some posters said he sounded like the Yankees were more his team.

(i hope your team does trade Hughes and Montero by the way.)

And has 33-34 y.o. Halladay; and Sabathia tied up in mega deals. It would be more like the post-2000 Yankees.

You hope they get Halladay?

What the...

And Halladay and Sabathia are not old turds like Mussina, Johnson, Wells, Clemens, etc.

Jeez dude

WTF? I said I would be surprised if Halladay is a Yankee or Red Sox.

SORRY EMMZ, I'll SEPERATE the sentence next time about him being a closet Yankee fan from the sentence about my surprise if Halladay becomes a Yankee (like 700hitter thinks).

And you have to stop harping on pieces of a post like you did with the Alex Gonzalez "Red Sox dropped the ball!" thing.

My good sir, you are taking an warranted shot on a fellow member, and it's not the first time you've done it.

You deserve to be harped on. Stick to baseball. Take shots when shots are taken at you, it's a really simple formula.

Well, I probably would not pull the trigger on that deal, but you're really outlining the negatives of Halladay.

The question is this: While Halladay might be a burden down the road, and the prospects you trade him might wind up being successful, is that worth it for the security of guaranteeing yourself as a World Series favorite for the next few years (which Halladay would do for the Yankees and the Red Sox)? I find either way of thinking to be reasonable.

the one bad thing about Halladay is that after coming back from his injury he was not the same pitcher he was in the beginning of the season. he went 7-9 since his injury.

This is not saying I wouldn't want him but is the number of prospects given up worth it.

You have to start thinking before you click the "submit reply" button, instead of taking shots on someone

And all those times you reversed the Sterling mantra when the Yankees lost, I thought you were just hiding your true feelings...

Why? Could it be because he wants the Red Sox to act like a big market team instead of the Twins or the Pirates? Maybe he's tired of the Red Sox crying poverty when they have the second richest team in baseball?

Maybe he just doesn't believe all the Red Sox FO tells him to believe.

Are these valid points?

Not when you look at how the other large-market teams are operating and who is having success and who is not. Are the Angels, Dodgers, Phillies and Red Sox all making a mistake generally holding onto their prospects rather than trading them?

What about the Red Sox makes you think they are more Yankee than they are Angel or Philly?

Actually, don't answer that. I know your answer already, as this is the bazillionith time we've discussed this topic.

Are you being sarcastic? Nick Swisher is really what gave the Yankees the edge this year, not writing blank checks to the 3 best free agents out there.

Do you think the Yankees win the division so easily without Swisher's contributions?

After Nady went down, they had no RF.

It was a masterful trade, one that the Sox should have made.

Your hatred for the Yanks must not get in the way with your objective look on things, it lowers your credibility tremendously.
