Assuming they land in Chicago that is...

I was talking about the Orioles OF defense.

LF - Pie

CF - Jones

RF - Markakis

All of them are excellent defenders.

All are also young and have high ceilings. Baltimore is finally doing things the right way. If they were smart, they'd put Huff and Guthrie on the block this trade deadline and get as much as they can.

I see your point. I'm just saying it's easier to trade away Sherrill if you have a good, young closer in your organization which the O's do in Ray

To be honest, and call me crazy if necessary, but I wasn't into all the hype for Ray. Granted, his first 2 years were good, borderline excellent, with ERA's of 2.66 and 2.73 in 05 and 06. Last year however, his ERA ballooned to 4.43, and only had 16 saves. That and the fact that he didn't pitch at all last year makes me wonder about him.

I'm in no way giving up on Ray or soliciting trading him or anything, but the O's can use the depth of good pitching, so unless they can get a piece that they actually need, I don't see a purpose/reason to trade Sherrill, regardless of Ray's resurgance in 09.

I'd think the fact that he was undergoing arm troubles could be directly linked to the high ERA and what he'll be like post-TJ is definitely an issue but he's got good stuff and could probably return to being one of baseball's better closers

In what is quite possibly the best value in baseball, the Jays re-signed Brandon League to a 1-year/$640,000 deal. The guy has SICK stuff

Mets signed Casey Fossum to a MiLB deal

Man, he's been pretty awful the last three seasons with Tampa Bay and Detroit. Maybe being with a winning team in the Mets will turn things around for him? Haha, probably not.

If I remember correctly, he was the pitcher that gave up the homerun to Jed Lowrie in extra innings this year. I mean he's a great pitcher in all (I think had a rough 07) but that was definitely a steal. Good signing by the Jays.

Definitely. Baltimore and Tampa both have freakishly athletic OFs now.

Maybe Pie will finally flourish now while playing in a setting with no pressure, because the guy has all the tools to be an All-Star caliber player if he can put his s*** together.

For whatever reason, Piniella never really gave Pie much of a chance. Maybe he was afraid of a sequel to the Corey Patterson saga. Like most moves the Cubs make, this will probably come back to bite them in the ass.

The movement he has on his fastball is ridiculous. Plus he throws it at 98-99

I was watching that game on MLB.TV, and IIRC, i think League's fastball caught Lowrie's bat by pure coincidence, he was over-matched.
