so if they re-sign Blake, I guess that means Martin will stay at catcher for them meaning Varitek isn't going there either
Posted

The only teams thats been mentioned with Varitek are the Dodgers, Tigers and Astros.

There is rumored trade talks between the Reds and Orioles. Ramon Hernandez for Ryan Freel. If those talks were to die out, would they risk their draft pick/$$ and give Varitek a 2-3 year deal?

That's probably a good thing though for Martin. He's much more valuable as a catcher than a third baseman. It is always good though for a catcher to have a secondary position or two, but he should remain primarily a catcher.

Doug Waechter, a really great guy who was very nice to me during all of my interaction with him while he was with the Hudson Valley Renegades (Rays' NY-Penn League affiliate) in 2007 while I was interning there has signed with the Royals. Brian Gordon and Joe Torres sign with Texas. The Blue Jays sign Matt Clement to a minor league deal, Ramon Vazquez is close to a 2 year, $4Mil deal with Pittsburgh, and theres a ton of Rule 5 news that probably deserves it's own thread.

Are these all the moves that have happened, the ones that are listed in here?

I'm a little out of the loop, that power outage BS pretty much shunned me from all sports news that past few days.

A bunch of stuff happened recently:

-Joey Gathright signed with the Cubs for an undisclosed amount.

-Cesar Izturis signed with the Orioles for 2x3

-Jamie Moyer re-signed with the Phillies for 2x8

-Jason Michaels signed with the Astros for 1x750k

-Chan Ho Park signed with the Phillies for 1x2.5, with up to 5 in incentives.

(All taken from MLBTR, who got it from other reliable sources. Trust me on this one. Just trust me.)

We trust you buddy, we trust you. We know Dierkes does a great job with that site, no worries, we trust you :D

Also, according to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN, looks like Furcal will be going back to Atlanta, which is kind of surprising. Financials of the agreement have not been reported yet. There were whispers of some slight mutual interest early in the offseason if they could move Escobar in a Peavy deal, but the Braves/Furcal whispers have silenced. It's been reported in recent weeks that the Final 4 in contention for Furcal were the Dodgers, A's, Royals, and Blue Jays; so this one comes as somewhat of a shock, considering they still have Escobar. It looks like they will try to trade him, but with Furcal on board his trade value decreases. They could just move him elsewhere in the infield, as he can play second and third too.

Does anyone think the Braves get back into the Peavy talks? Or will the fact SD is demanding Their #1 SP prospect.

10:51am: MLB.com's Mark Bowman says the Braves have no intention of trading Johnson or Escobar - they are moving Johnson back to left field. Bowman believes Furcal will play second base.

Well that sums it up. Thanks guys.

As for Atlanta getting back in on Peavy, I mean who knows. It's looking more and more likely that the Pads are becoming content with just holding onto him, but it could happen.

There's also rumors of SD's owner looking to sell.Which means payroll will most likely be lowered to make the team more appealing. This might force a Peavy trade. I guess only time will tell.

yeah that's been ongoing due to his divorce. He really doesn't want to, but might have no choice. It's been a story for a while now. He's been really devoted to the padres, so hopefully he can hang on to them without his bloodsucker of a soon-to-be ex-wife complicating things further.

I don't think Peavy gets dealt. IMO the Padres are going to keep asking too much.

And with the market for pitching so thin after the Burnett and Sabathia signings, looking for someone who overpays is the right thing to do IMO.

Our old buddy Aaron Boone signs with the Astros for $750,000. He can provide some versatile infield depth off the bench and maybe platoon with Geoff Blum at third.

Your old buddy Trot Nixon inked a Minor League deal with Milwaukee.
