Figure there will be plenty of minor signings (not minor leagues, just not big splashes) that won't deserve their own thread.

The Blue Jays signed Adam Loewen and claimed 2002 #1 overall pick Bryan Bullington off of waivers. Apparently Loewen really wanted to play in Canada, he's Canadian.

White Sox signed second baseman Jayson Nix, who had been with the Rockies.

MLB.com confirms the deal, but there's no word on whether it's a major league contract. We're going to assume that it is, since there was absolutely no reason for Nix to sign a minor league deal before the end of October. Nix was gifted with a starting job in Colorado this spring and rewarded the team with a .125 average and two extra-base hits in 56 at-bats. It's doubtful that he'll ever hit enough to hold down a regular job, but he plays a very good second base and he can also fill in at shortstop if necessary. The White Sox may see him as a cheap replacement for Juan Uribe.

The Marlins are closing in on a trade with the Royals

Kansas City- 1B Mike Jacobs

Florida- RP Leo Nunez

The annual firesale continues of the Marlins trading off players entering their arbitration years. The 2 other Marlins very much likely to be traded are Scott Olsen and closer Kevin Gregg

Some things today:

-Chad Cordero, former Red Sox closer candidate and actual good pitcher, is a FA after refusing a AAA assignment.

-Wily Mo Pena exercised his 2009 option with Washington.

-The Mets re-signed Fernando Tatis for 1 year, 1.7 M.

If he can play like he did in limited action this year, that is a nice bargain.

I don't think Cordero is all that good any more. He hasn't done much in a while.

amazing that the Nats didn't trade him when his value was astronomical

Someone who's already in their rotation will go to the bullpen when Price enters the rotation next year. I suspect that closing will be that pitcher's responsibility (likely Edwin Jackson)

Giants Sign Josh Phelps

By Tim Dierkes [November 3 at 8:51pm CST]

Nice move by the Giants today, as they signed first baseman Josh Phelps to a minor league deal with a spring training invite. Phelps, 30, hit .291/.373/.568 with 31 home runs in Triple A this year. He has an .815 OPS in his big league career, and could provide decent pop for the league minimum if given the opportunity.

I've always thought this guy to be decent, so maybe he could add some production to the ultra-weak Giants lineup.
