My point was the disparity in salary between two guys who differ significantly in talent. I know it's different economic times but a lot of guys are still cashing in big so the fact that Lugo makes more than twice what Cabrera makes surprises me a bit

Why? Cabrera's not that good.

He's still better than Lugo. The only place Lugo has Cabrera beat is OBP. Other than that, Cabrera is better defensively and has more pop.

Also, Nomar is close to a deal with the A's to backup/platoon with Chavez

And Lowrie is better than all of them so what's your point?

While it's besides the point, you can't really argue Lowrie is better than Cabrera right now

But my entire point is Cabrera is better than Lugo, I don't even know why Lowrie is being mentioned

Lugo's career numbers were almost equal to Cabrera's when he got signed. Cabrera got $8 million in 2005, Lugo got $9 million in 2007, in a bull market.

Cabrera had a below average offensive year, and played OK defense. In this market, he's worth this much.

I'm not going to oppose anything that casts Julio Yugo in a negative light but realistically, I don't see why people are so anxious to bring it up every other thing. It's not like any Sox fans actually vehemently defend Lugo as a good signing.

We agree, and we get it. It was a bad deal. The only reason to bring it up is to twist the knife, and while that can be fun, you know what they say about what goes around

I guess it's a really, really late '04 World Series party

Good move by Chicago

The White Sox and Gavin Floyd have reportedly come to terms on a four-year, $15.5 million contract.

This was the news that Joe Cowley thought might have been a Juan Pierre trade. A four-year deal for Floyd covers all of his arbitration years, but doesn't buy out any free agency.

Rays sent David Price to Triple A today

They are messing around with his service to delay his Arb. And FA eligibilty like they did last year with Longoria. Smart move.

I thought arbitration eligibility service time was based on your time on a 40 man roster? 3 years or whatever the exact number is. I could be wrong.

Delcarmen, because of how the Sox used the process, is a super-two player. He made his debut in 2005, yet he's still under contract for the next 4 seasons

Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski announced Wednesday morning that Rick Porcello has earned a spot in the starting rotation.

Porcello, 20, posted a 2.63 ERA in 12 2/3 innings this spring. He was drafted in 2007 out of high school and hasn't made a pitch above Single-A, but the Tigers apparently think he's ready for a big challenge. He posted a 2.66 ERA and 1.19 WHIP as a 19-year-old in high Single-A Lakeland last season. Porcello is an exciting talent, but fantasy owners might want to play the waiting game.

Lets see what the kid has got

Rangers released outfielder Frank Catalanotto.

This move solidifies Andruw Jones' spot on the Rangers' Opening Day roster. Meanwhile, Catalanotto figures to get a shot elsewhere, potentially as a reserve outfielder and pinch hitter for a NL team.

Nope. Arb eligibility is strictly based upon 25 man service time. Options are based upon 40 man roster inclusion. Most players on the 40 man roster get 3 options through their careers. Those who have spent 3 yrs on the 40 man roster and never once made it to the 25 man roster will get a 4th option yr. This was added in to counteract the insistence of top picks getting MLB contracts per Boras. Also, spending the entire yr on the 60 day DL will remove you from the 40 man during the DL stint and will also not use an option. So a guy like Brackman, who the yankees drafted in 2007 will start his option yrs this yr since he's got an MLB contract. They have already used one by sending him to Charleston

I've always been a big Catalonotto fan. He always seemed to kill the Sox and I was hoping the Sox would sign him when Toronto let him go.

And that's how you ruin a prospect.

If they let him fly, he should be able to hold his own. I wouldn't put him down for more than 150 innings, though.

Jim Leyland? This guy is f***ed.
