How does this trade make the Red Sox an all around better team? It doesnt. Manny's defensive has rarely cost the Red Sox baseball games.

Really? You're sure of this?

The total package of Bay v. Manny is comparable. In fact, one could make the argument the Sox are better off next year with 12.5 million in hand to go after pitching help.

Manny, Craig and Moss for Jason Bay.

They've got to be kidding.

How could we give up the kids when manny is the best player i the deal to begin with and Dodgers give up nothing.

nope, but he has always done a good job at fenway, and he usually doesnt make terrible plays in the outfield.

Alright, Im moving on, Bay is a good player lets hope he produces, because if he doesnt the fans are going to eat him alive.

LaRoche >>>>> Hansen and Moss

Do your research.

I think the sox were in a position where they had to make this deal. Jason Bay is better than a Manny Ramirez who continues to take himself out of the lineup. The part of this deal I don't follow is that we had to include money, moss, and hansen, while the dodgers gave up just the two prospects and got manny. The dodgers came away with a steal in my opinion

To be honest with you, in a perfect world without antics and only looking at performance, Manny and Bay are likely to perform equally until the end of 2009 which is when Bay's contract is up and they could have gotten him as a FA. The money standpoint is an issue as well. Bay is due 2 mil this yr and 9 next, so the total price is 11 mil just on Bay.

I believe Bay is under contract for $7.5m in 2009.

Pedroia, Youk, Papi, Bay, Lowell, Drew, Lowery, Tek, Ellsbury

Not sure that gets us there especially since we've taken Craig out of the mix.

(I hope he finds it in Pittsburgh)

LaRoche is 10x the prospect Hansen and Moss are, and they get two months of Manny. How do they win again?

What part of "He's the worst defensive LF in the game" is so hard to comprehend?

Doesn't matter what stats Manny has put up, his head wasn't in Boston, therefore hes no good to the Sox. Bay is a decent replacement, considering Manny is not the same hitter he was 2 years ago. I love Manny, but it was time for him to go, he didn't just burn the bridge, he blew it up trying to flee Boston. The only thing on Manny/Boras mind right now is a 4yr 100M deal and not on the goals of this season. If it is true about the rest of the players souring on Manny and his antics then its a move that had to be made. Maybe this shake up will do them some good, add a spark to a team thats looked very flat recently. Manny was on his way out of town anyway, now its just two months early. Bay is cheap and a decent hitter, the Sox have him next season and then they have the option of going after a big $ OF if they choose to do so.

Thanks Manny for all you did in the Nation:D

The dodgers only gave up Laroche and Morris (TJ surgery) for Manny.

Please tell me we didn't give money too.

Explain to me why this is, exactly.

You'll have to speak up though as I can't hear you over your incredible Manny bias.

YOU explain to me how this is a good trade, how it could possibly be.

This is how I see it. The only positive is Bay is younger, and I suppose the money saving is good too. I don't think Bay is better than Manny. Maybe next year he will. We lost Hansen, and we need help in the bullpen, not to lose it. Moss showed great potential, and now he's gone.

It blows my mind to think Theo did this. We get absolutely no bullpen, or anything help. This is awful.

Jason Bay sucks... trade his ass in the offseason please glad i'm going to the game tomorrow going to boo this scrub like I never booed anyone.

that seems fair...since Bay was the brains behind the operation it definitely seems logical to boo him...good plan

Here is what is going to happen.

Hansen will go to Pittsburgh and be absolutely filthy. He and Ross Ohlendorf along with Matt Capps will make the Buccos pen absolutely filthy. The Yankees and the Sox will lament giving them talented players, even though everyone knows full well they werent making it in the ALE.

Brandon Moss will go to PIT and be entrenched as their starting LFer. In their bandbox stadium and in the NLC he will see some success, likely OPSing around .800 and will be another David Murphy type player. Solid, not spectacular, who knows what he's doing in the box, but isnt a key cog in the machine.

Manny will go to LA and be absolutely lights out this stretch run. He'll get the Dodgers into the playoffs and be hailed as LA's savior. Coming off that performance, he'll get a huge deal in the offseason and go back to being the lovable loafer you guys cheered on for 8 seasons.

Bay will come to the sox and initially struggle and with Manny being on a tear in LA and the prospects looking nice, sox fans will be angry. But come September, he'll start to find his groove and find his way around AL pitchers. By midseason 2009, he'll start to hit like the Jason Bay of old and will likely finish the 09 campaign with a near .900OPS. During the season, the sox will sign him to a 5 yr extension for around 16 mil a yr to be the sox starting LFer for awhile.

If you let Manny walk at the end of the year you get two months of Manny and two draft picks.

For all intents and purposes the production Bay gives you for the rest of the season will be similar to Manny's. Now combine the fact that Bay is 8 years younger, AND we have him signed cheaply through next season, the cost of Brandon Moss and Craig Hansen really isn't that high.

This isn't a one year rental, an extra year of Bay IMO is probably worth Moss and Hansen, not to mention we free up 12.5 mil which can be spent in a number of ways.

Three players and $7 million for Jason Bay. The Red Sox got shafted. The Dodgers got Manny for free for two prospects. The Pirates got 4 guys for Bay. We got the short end of the deal by a long shot.

If you read the posts Manny Pedroia Lowell and Ortiz I never bashed. Rest of the team chokes in the clutch look at Jason Bay's stats with RISP.. Guy is disgusting hope he hurts himself so I can laugh at Epstein.

Lets not forget Epstein was crying that he wasn't in full command in 2006 when Beckett and Lowell were traded here.... So lets hear the optimists praise Theo now.
